Ukraine in Brief:

The 78th day of the Ukrainian people’s heroic struggle against the russian military invasion goes on.

No active enemy action has been reported in the north of Ukraine. The threat of missile and bomb strikes from the belarus on infrastructure facilities on the territory of Ukraine remains. The enemy has kept shelling border oblasts of Ukraine in the Chernihiv and Sumy oblasts.

In the Kharkiv direction, the enemy’s main efforts have been concentrated on preventing Ukrainian troops from advancing, and liberating areas occupied temporarily by the russian invaders. Throughout the past 24 hours, the enemy has shelled the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) troops’ positions in the vicinity of Pytomnyk and Ruski Tyshky.

In the Donetsk direction, the invaders have been using mortars, conventional artillery, multiple rocket launchers and missile and bomb airstrikes to destroy fortifications of Ukrainian units. In the direction of Lyman, the enemy has been trying to capture an area on the right bank of the Siverskiy Donets river to consolidate positions in the vicinity of Oleksandrivka. The aggressor has also been trying to storm towards Novoselivka, without success. In the direction of Severodonetsk, russian occupation troops have been continuing a storm offensive in the area of Voyevodivka, also without success. Enemy storm offensives towards the directions of Bakhmut, Avdiivka, and Kurakhovo aimed at improving the tactical positions of its troops have met no luck either.

In Mariupol, the invaders have been proceeding with artillery and air bombardments, focussing their core effort on the blockading of our units in the area of Azovstal Mill. The russian invaders continue suffering losses in almost all directions.

Northern oblasts

Kyiv

Air raid alerts are wailing in the capital and the Oblast. The exhibition of destroyed russian military equipment continues in downtown Kyiv. The showpieces include a Tiger APV used by russians in fights near Gostomel and an APC BTR-82A. The National Military History Museum has organized the exhibition.

Kyiv Oblast

The Kyiv Oblast Council has had its first session since the beginning of the full-scale war. A special commission is documenting the aftermath of russian attacks on population centers’ infrastructure. The UK is to join Oblast restoration efforts. More than 20 tower blocks in Irpin are slated for demolition.

There is a temporary tent camp set up in the town for the locals left homeless.

De-russification goes on: the Executive Committee of the Bila Tserkva City Council has approved a decision to dismantle the monuments to a russian tank and a plane. Local MPs in Kaharlyk have banned moscow patriarchy churches.

Zhytomyr Oblast

A commission in Zhytomyr has surveyed more than 200 facilities damaged by russian strikes. The range of facilities includes schools, kindergartens, and residential buildings, which will be restored with funds from the national budget. Of these, 17 have totaled, 42 will require significant repairs, and 149 will run repairs. The Baltic States will join the revival of the Zhytomyr Oblast.

Chernihiv Oblast

The russians dealt an airstrike on Novhorod-Siverskiy at night. The attack left three casualties and 12 wounded. Two school buildings, a district administration office, a shop, a medical college hostel, and several buildings were damaged.

Blast technicians have found more than 700 armed submunitions from a russian air bomb in the field, Horodnya Raion. De-russification continues in the Oblast. A monument to ‘the friendship of the people’ of Ukraine, russia, and belarus is being dismantled in the Oblast.

Sumy Oblast

Russia has shelled the Oblast again in the morning. Around 20 heavy artillery shells hit the territory of Novy Vyrky, leaving one casualty. A tractor hit a russian landmine near the hospital in Trostyanets. One person was left with shell shock.

Eastern oblasts

Kharkiv Oblast

The past 24 hours have been calm in Kharkiv. No enemy strikes the city. However, population centers in the Oblast are suffering from shellings. The invaders used MRLS to shell the village of Mala Danylivka. This morning’s missile strike on Derhachi has left one casualty and three wounded.

Natural gas supply restoration works continue in Kharkiv districts and villages in the Oblast affected by shellings. More than 20 thousand meal kits have been supplied to Kharkiv Oblast residents in the past 24 hours.

Donetsk Oblast

Kramatorsk

In general, the situation is alarming. Explosions were heard in the city. There are no reports of destruction or casualties. There is a shortage of fuel and problems with access to medicines in the city. The military of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) and local Territorial Defense units were preparing to meet the enemy. Municipal services work in a regular mode. Public utilities tested lawnmowers purchased last year.

Despite fuel problems, volunteers managed to organize targeted delivery for residents of the community village – people with disabilities who cannot reach the extradition center on their own. Among these people, there are bedridden, so hygiene kits were very important. People expressed their gratitude to the volunteers.

Pokrovsk and Pokrovsk Raion

On May 11th, enemy troops again fired on the Avdiivka Coke Plant. Russian occupation troops’ shells hit the plant and the phenol-naphthalene building. The 33-year-old head of the plant shift and an employee of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SES) department were injured. The aggressor’s troops fired on the following settlements: Avdiivka, Novoselivka, and Krasnohorivka village.

Russian war crimes have been documented. Police have launched a pre-trial investigation under Article 438 (violation of the laws or customs of war) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The AFU repulsed the enemy. Representatives of the local Territorial Defense unit were on duty in the community. The last day in the Pokrovsk community was relatively calm. No casualties or damage were reported. In Pokrovsk and other settlements of the Pokrovsk community, cleaning of streets is carried out, and flowers are planted. Cash is available at ATMs of Privatbank and Oschadbank.

Bakhmut

The situation is very tense. There is heavy fighting around the community within a 30-40 km radius. The neighboring Zvanivska community was under fire last night. The shelling lasted for 60 hours continuously.

Russian occupation troops tried to cross the Siversky Donets river. In 4 days of unsuccessful attempts, the rashists lost more than 70 units of equipment and two infantry battalions with engineers.

In the Donetsk direction, enemy units are trying to develop offensive operations in the Bakhmut area. The enemy is storming Pervomaisk and Komyshuvakha, and fighting continues. Private trade facilities operate in a limited mode. The bakery “Bakhmut-Khlib” works steadily to meet the community’s needs. The market is working.

Mariupol

Russian occupation troops do not stop trying to storm the “Azovstal” plant, which is defended by the Ukrainian military. The occupiers are tightening the police regime in Mariupol. The whole city is blocked by checkpoints. The russian military carefully inspects all cars.

Locals who did not pass “filtration” in the concentration camps were held in prison. They are being taken to a penal colony in Olenivka village (Donetsk Oblast) or the “Isolation” Prison in Donetsk. The minimum term of imprisonment is 36 days. Prisoners are held in inhumane conditions. At least 3000 people are currently in prison.

Adviser to the Mayor of Mariupol Petro Andryushchenko says that the occupiers are preparing to integrate the city into russia. Currently, there is information that a “referendum” is planned to be held in the city on May 15th. He also underlined that the notebooks in Mariupol and Mariupol Raion schools are signed “Mariupol. Rostov region”.

Luhansk Oblast

The shelling intensified along the entire Luhansk front. Powerful battles continue in Bilohorivka, Komyshuvakha, and on the outskirts of Severodonetsk. Ukrainian defenders hold back the russian offensive in Bilohorivka and destroy their pontoon crossings across the Siversky Donets river. In the temporarily occupied lands, local activists are missing en masse.

There are almost no surviving livelihoods left in Luhansk Oblast. The vast majority of critical infrastructure will have to be built from scratch. Some power lines can be repaired, but constant shelling in the damaged areas does not allow this. There is no electricity supply everywhere in the region. Only electric generators work. There is also no centralized water supply.

Southern oblasts

Zaporizhzhia Oblast

The situation in Zaporizhzhia Oblast remains difficult. The russian military continues to shell settlements. On the morning of May 12th, russian occupation troops fired on the town of Huliaipole from the “Grad” volley fire systems. Infrastructure facilities were damaged. There is currently no information on the wounded or dead.

During the past 24hrs, 18 missiles were fired at Komyshuvakha village; as a result, about 60 houses were damaged. One person was killed, and three were injured. The occupiers continue to terrorize the locals, block the delivery of humanitarian aid, and ban travel to Ukrainian-controlled territories. In addition, the russians take out grain, loot, and destroy companies that repair and maintain roads.

On May 12th, residents of Kyrylivka, neighboring villages of the Kyrylivka and Yakymivka communities, and two migrants from Mariupol were able to evacuate to the territories of Zaporizhia Oblast controlled by Ukraine. In total, there are 60 people.

Zaporizhzhia

On May 12, around 10:00 am, russian occupation troops launched a cruise missile at the city of Zaporizhzhia. According to preliminary data, a private building caught fire due to the shelling. The information is currently being clarified.

The Security Service of Ukraine prevented a terrorist attack at a mass gathering in the center of Zaporizhzhia. The perpetrator was detained. He planned to hide explosives, nails, bolts, and other elements of the improvised explosive device in crutches.

Kherson Oblast

There are no plans to hold a referendum in Kherson in the near future. The invaders are engaged in looting: grain, machinery, warehouses, cars, property, and possessions of people – everything is taken to the territory of russia.

Drug business has been added to other forms of crime in the Kherson Oblast: the russian military and their subordinates in the Oblast are engaged in creating cannabis plantations.

The damage caused to the Chornobayivska poultry farm amounted to 1.5 billion hryvnias. It is the largest poultry farm in Europe. Due to the blockade, it was impossible to feed the poultry and dispatch the finished products, which led to its mass extinction. In every possible way, the local public demonstrates its disagreement with the occupation.

Skadovsk

The situation continues to be critical. In Skadovsk and the Kherson Oblast, mobile communications and the Internet began to disappear again. The exchange of medicines works. There is less and less food; a lot of humanitarian aid remains in Mykolaiv and cannot be delivered for several days now. People stick together, join volunteering, and some try to leave the city and the oblast.

At checkpoints, passports are now checked, and personal belongings and mobile phones are thoroughly inspected. Currently, the Skadovsk occupying “authorities” are Serhiy Shvaiko and Tetiana Kalinovska, who russian military leaders have appointed. They aim to request the president of russia to incorporate this Raion into the russia.

There are no Territorial Defense units in the city. The mayor works online, following what is going on in the city. He thanked the partners from Lithuania for their humanitarian aid. The municipality of the town of Šilutė donated food, hygiene products, and a Mercedes Sprinter minibus to Skadovsk. All these relief supplies will be delivered to the city soon. The bus is specially designed for people with limited mobility. It has 8 individual seats and is equipped with a wheelchair lift. The bus will carry out a humanitarian mission in the territory controlled by Ukraine during the occupation. And after the liberation from the invaders, it will work for the needs of the members of the Skadovsk community. The Skadovsk community expresses its gratitude to the Mayor of Šilutė, Vytautas Laurinaitis, all the residents of the Šilutė district, and all the people of Lithuania for their unfailingly steadfast support of Ukraine in its struggle for freedom.

Mykolaiv Oblast

In the Mykolaiv sector, the enemy continues serial shelling the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) and the industrial zone of Mykolaiv, using multiple launch rocket systems. The invaders are destroying infrastructure and exerting psychological pressure on the civilian population. The unique Kinburn Spit Reserve is being destroyed in this Oblast. Over the past day in the Mykolaiv Oblast, 11 people were wounded.

Odesa Oblast

The situation is tense, and missile attacks are always possible. The russians are building up their military presence on Zmiinyi Island to block Ukrainian maritime communications. The enemy constantly conducts reconnaissance of the territories, shelling the area from the sea. Air defense works in the Oblast. The local Territorial Defense units strengthen the defense capability of the Oblast. According to the local authorities, the situation is under control in the Oblast.

De-russification is underway in the oblast. In Izmail, the main avenue, named after Suvorov, was renamed Independence Avenue, and Moskovska Street will now be called Defenders of Ukraine Street.

People are active and close-knit, and many join volunteering.

Central oblasts

Dnipropetrovsk Oblast

Throughout the night, along the entire line of confrontation, the enemies were shelling, including the use of prohibited phosphorus and cluster munitions. The invaders shelled Velyka Kostromka and Zelenodolsk. One person was killed and one wounded. An energy infrastructure facility was destroyed.

Patriotic Kherson residents, who were forced to leave their native home and settle in Alexandria, continue to do good deeds. At their own expense, Yuri Efremov, together with his daughters, contribute to the improvement of the city. This time the children offered to paint a bench near the entrance, where they live in the state flag and with the inscription “I am Ukrainian and proud of it.”

The center for sewing clothes for the AFU in Novoukrainka was organized by the community’s residents of the and operates based on the ZORIT Center for Children and Youth Creativity.
