War in Ukraine today: latest news, October 27, 2022 (photo)

It has been the 246th day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression.

What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 6pm:

The enemy is attempting to hold the ground on the temporarily occupied territory, focusing its efforts on restraining the actions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in some directions and launching the offensive towards Bakhmut and Avdiivka.

The enemy is firing at Ukrainian soldiers’ positions along the entire contact line, builds defensive constructions and conducts aerial reconnaissance. By violating the norms of the international humanitarian law, laws and customs of war, the enemy is hitting the critical infrastructure and civilian homes.

The occupiers launched 3 air strikes and 11 multi-rocket launcher attacks.

The situation did not significantly change towards Volyn and Polissia. The republic of belarus is supporting the russian armed aggression against Ukraine, providing its territory, air space and infrastructure.  The territory of Ukraine is exposed to the threat of missile strikes and attacks with UAVs from belarus.

The enemy is shelling towards:

Sloboda from the territory of the russian federation, using artillery of various types, in the areas of Chuhunivka, Strilecha, Dvorichna, Kamianka, Krasne, Starytsia;

Kupiansk from tanks, mortars, barreled and rocket artillery, in the areas of Berestove, Kyslivka and Fiholivka;

Lyman from tanks and multi-caliber artillery, in the areas of Makiivka, Terny, Torske, Yampolivka, Spirne, Nevske and Zarichne;

Bakhmut from tanks, mortars, barreled and rocket artillery, in the areas of Andriivka, Bakhmut, Bakhmutske, Kramatorsk, Soledar and Yakovlivka;

Avdiivka from mortars, barreled and rocket artillery in the areas of Avdiivka, Krasnohorivka, Marinka, Novomykhailivka and Pervomaiske.

Towards Novopavlivka and Zaporizhzhia, the enemy carried out artillery shelling in the areas of Bilohiria, Vremivka, Zaliznychne, Novopol, Novosilka, Olhivske and Orikhiv.

Towards the South Buh, more than 15 settlements near the contact line were exposed to fire.

The issue of material and technical support of units of the russian occupation forces directly involved in hostilities on the territory of Ukraine remains problematic. Thus, according to available information, the lack of warm clothes has led to an increase in the number of cases of theft and looting by servicemen of the Armed Forces of the russian federation in the temporarily occupied territory of Kherson oblast.

Mobilized soldiers who arrived in the area of combat missions have not undergone appropriate training, and do not have practical skills in using the main types of weapons, this causing significant losses of the enemy in manpower.

The unsatisfactory condition of military equipment, which was removed from storage and arrived to replenish current losses, was the result of frequent cases of desertion and surrender of the occupiers to the Defense Forces of Ukraine. According to preliminary information, a significant part of the weapons and military equipment sent by the occupiers towards Donetsk and Novopavlivka is limitedly suitable or completely unsuitable for combat use. In particular, this concerns T-62 tanks removed from long-term storage.

During the previous days, destruction of two ammunition depots and a pontoon crossing with enemy military equipment in Kherson oblast was confirmed.

The aviation of the Defense Forces carried out 14 strikes on buildups of enemy manpower, weapons and military equipment. During the day, air defense units shot down an enemy helicopter and an aircraft, preliminarily Ka-52 “Alligator” and an attack aircraft Su-25.

Units of rocket troops and artillery struck two buildups of manpower, weapons and military equipment of the invaders.

The press service of the power supplier company from the DTEK Yasno Group As a result of the terrorist attack by russians on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, the electricity shortage in Kyiv may make 30 %. Blackouts will be longer and affect much more consumers. “Kyiv usually consumes 1,000-1,200 MW, but now the estimated available capacity is 600-800 MW,” the power supplier explains. “That is, almost half of Kyiv can be left without electricity,” the energy workers added.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed the Law “On Amendments to the Law of Ukraine “On the State Budget of Ukraine for 2022”. This was reported on the website of the Verkhovna Rada. According to him, the report about the escape of russians from Kherson is an information attack, which aims to draw the forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine from other dangerous directions.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces believes that russia may resort to terrorist attacks during the retreat in Kherson oblast. It is most likely that, in addition to evacuation, the enemy may resort to a series of terrorist attacks with the detonation of residential areas aiming to cause critical damage to the infrastructure in the territories returned by Ukraine. There may also be detonations in the Zaporizhzhia NPP to put it out of order, provoke a local man-made disaster and accuse Ukraine.

The police documented 44 crimes committed by the russian army against civilians in Kherson oblast. Russian troops once again shelled peaceful communities in the Beryslav region. Residential and commercial buildings, shops, farms were damaged and destroyed, cars were mutilated by shrapnels from shells. Houses caught fire as a result of shelling. There are victims among the civilian population.

Reports of looting by the russian army continue to come from recently liberated villages. During the occupation, private houses were inhabited by russian soldiers who took away all their property (refrigerators, washing machines, TVs, microwaves, slow cookers, sofas, bicycles, clothes and even cutlery). The current situation is similar in the temporarily occupied cities of Kherson, Beryslav, Kakhovka and Henichesk regions. 10-15 russian soldiers and representatives of illegal armed groups move into the apartments and houses of the locals, use the property of the owners, and also take all valuable things from there.

Residents of the liberated villages of Arkhanhelske and Osokorivka in Kherson oblast received 300 sets of building materials. The kits will be used to reconstruct houses destroyed by shelling. In the coming days, 200 sets will be delivered to Novovorontsovka. Residents of Novovorontsvka, Visokopillia and Velykooleksandrivka communities will receive another 800 sets next week.
