It has been the 459th day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression. 

What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 6 pm:   

The russian federation is not abandoning its plans for further occupation of Ukrainian territory and continues to wage an aggressive war. The russian army persists in launching attacks and shelling not only military targets, but also civilian objects.

According to updated information, at night, the russian federation conducted another massive strike on Ukrainian territory, using Iranian strike drones Shahed. Ukrainian troops destroyed 58 out of 59 drones.

The russian army carried out 91 aerial strikes and conducted approximately 25 attacks with multiple rocket launch systems on the positions of Ukrainian troops and populated areas. Ukraine is still under the threat of missile and aerial strikes.

The russian army continues to concentrate its efforts on attempting to fully capture the Luhansk and Donetsk regions. The Armed Forces of Ukraine repelled 18 russian attacks.

The operational situation is stable towards Volyn and Polissia with no signs of russian formations detected.

Towards Siversk and Sloboda, the russian army continues to maintain a military presence in border areas with Ukraine. They conducted aerial strikes in the areas of Kondrativka, Basivka, Mohrytsia, Myropillia, and Slavhorod, Sumy oblast, as well as in Pletenivka and Vovchanske Khutory in the Kharkiv region. Russian troops carried out mortar and artillery shelling on the settlements of Karpovychi, Tymonovychi, Zalizny Mist, and Muravi in the Chernihiv region, as well as Novovasylivka, Seredyna-Buda, Prohres, Demyanivka, and Manukhivka in the Sumy region, and Liptsy, Hatysche, Pletenivka, Vovchansk, Mala Vovcha, and Budarky, Kharkiv oblast.

Towards Kupiansk, the russian army conducted unsuccessful offensive actions in the vicinity of Masiutivka, Kharkiv oblast. They carried out an aerial strike in the area of Kyslivka, Kharkiv oblast. The russian artillery and mortar shelling targeted Kolodiazne, Krasne Pershe, Fiholivka, Novomlynsk, Dvorichna, Zapadne, Masiutivka, Kyslivka, and Berestove, Kharkiv oblast.

Towards Lyman, russian soldiers did not conduct offensive actions. They carried out aerial strikes in the areas of Yahidne, Kharkiv oblast, Serhiivka and Bilohorivka, Luhansk oblast, and Ivanivka, Spirne, Rai-Oleksandrivka, and Vesele, Donetsk oblast. Artillery shelling targeted Nevske, Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region, Torske, Verkhniokamianske, and Spirne, Donetsk oblast.

Towards Bakhmut, the russian army conducted unsuccessful offensive actions northeast of Orikhovo-Vasylivka and Ivanivske. They carried out aerial strikes in the populated areas of Predtechyne, Bila Hora, Kurdiumivka, New York, and Yablunivka in the Donetsk region. Vasylivka, Pryvillia, Orikhovo-Vasylivka, Hryhorivka, Bohdanivka, Chasiv Yar, Ivanivske, Stupochky, Predtechyne, Kostiantynivka, and Pivnichne, Donetsk oblast were affected by russian shelling.

Towards Avdiivka, the russian army did not conduct offensive actions. They carried out aerial strikes in the areas of Avdiivka, Vodiane, and Pervomaiske. Artillery shelling targeted Avdiivka, Pervomaiske, and Karlivka, Donetsk oblast.

Towards Marinka, Ukrainian troops repelled 12 russian attacks in the area of Marinka. The Russian army carried out an aerial strike in the vicinity of Marinka. Additionally, Pobeda in the Donetsk region was subjected to russian shelling.

Towards Shakhtarsk, the russian army conducted an aerial strike in the area of Vuhledar. They carried out shelling on the settlements of Paraskeviivka, Novomykhailivka, Vuhledar, Novoukrainka, Prechystivka, and Shakhtarske.

Towards Zaporizhzhia and Kherson, the russian army is on the defensive. They carried out shelling on the settlements of Vremivka, Novopil, Donetsk oblast; Olhivske, Huliaypole, Mala Tokmachka, Novodanilivka, Orikhiv, Novoandriivka, Mali Shcherbaky, and Stepnohrisk, Zaporizhzhia oblast; Zolota Balka, Mykhailivka, Vesele, Kozatske, Mykolaivka, Lvove, Ivanivka, Antonivka, Dniprovsk, Kizomys, Kherson oblast, and the city of Kherson.

In Lysychansk, Luhansk oblast, approximately 80 individuals deserted from the Storm-Z unit of russian forces. They voluntarily left their combat positions. Additionally, towards Bakhmut, around 30 individuals deserted from the Wagner Private Military Company (PMC), also abandoning their combat positions and stealing military equipment.

Forced passportization of Ukrainian citizens continues in the temporarily occupied territory of the Nyzhni Sirohozy region, Kherson oblast. Russian troops constantly exert pressure on the local population, threatening them with deportation and confiscation of property. Specifically, local citizens with Ukrainian passports, driver’s licenses, and vehicle technical passports are threatened with confiscation if they refuse to obtain documents of the russian model.

Ukrainian aviation carried out 13 strikes on russian personnel and military equipment buildup areas, as well as 2 strikes on anti-aircraft missile complexes.

Units of missile forces and artillery struck three areas of armament and military equipment concentration, a S-300 anti-aircraft missile system, three command posts, and russian ammunition depot.


The press service of the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that russia carried out the most massive attack by Iranian drones. A record number of kamikaze drone launches was recorded – 54. Air defense forces shot down 52 drones.

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, submitted to the Verkhovna Rada a resolution on  imposing sanctions against Iran for a period of 50 years. The document is published on the website of the Verkhovna Rada. They envisage a complete ban on trade operations with Iran and halt on the transit of resources, flights and transportation on the territory of Ukraine, to prevent the withdrawal of capital by residents of Iran.

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

Kharkiv oblast

According to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the russian army launched air strikes near Pletenivka, Vovchanski Khutory, Kyslivka and Yahidne, Kupiansk and Chuhuiv regions. At least 15 settlements were also came under russian attack.

Serhii Cherevatyi, spokesman of the Eastern Group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Kupiansk has a strong defence: there are no grounds for the city to become a “new Bakhmut” in terms of the scale of destruction and the onslaught of the russian military. According to him, yesterday Ukrainian troops eliminated 20 and injured 52 russian fighters towards Lyman-Kuianka.

The press service of the Kharkiv regional State Emergency Service reported that a 74-year-old woman sustained shrapnel wounds as a result of shelling in Kucherivka, Kupiansk oblast, on the afternoon of 28 May.

The invaders attacked the border settlements of Chuhuiv, Kharkiv and Kupiansk regions.  The enemy launched an airstrike near Kyslivka. Kolodiazne, Krasne Pershe, Fykholivka, Novomlynsk, Dvorichna, Zapadne, Masiutivka, Kyslivka, Berestove came under artillery and mortar attacks.   

Vovchansk and the surrounding area were under intense shelling. Residential buildings, fences, outbuildings, windows of the House of Culture and the administrative building of the village council were damaged.

Civilians are once again suffering as a result of russian aggression. In Shepuvate village, Kupiansk region, a 61-year-old woman was killed and a 60-year-old man injured by the shelling. A 60-year-old man in the yard of his house in Dvorichna, Kupiansk region, was killed in a shelling.

As a result of shelling in Fykholivka, a 58-year-olf woman was injured, her condition is moderate. A 79-year-old woman sustained shrapnel wounds as a result of hostile shelling in Tsyrkuny.

Donetsk oblast

According to the morning report of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, towards Bakhmut, russian troops were unsuccessfully advancing west of Khromove yesterday. Ten settlements came under fire.

Colonel Serhii Cherevatyi, spokesman of the Eastern Group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said that  towards Bakhmut, Russian troops attacked 250 times Ukrainian troops’ positions from various weapons yesterday. There were 342 attacks towards Lyman-Kupiansk.

Vitalii Barabash, head of the Avdiivka City Military Administration reported on the air of the national marathon that at night, russian invaders launched a massive artillery attack on Avdiivka, also shelling downtown and the old part of the city. There were no casualties. He said that yesterday volunteers were targeted with an air strike and that there are still people in the city under the rubble of destroyed apartment buildings who cannot be reached without special equipment.

The night before, russians launched a missile attack on Kramatorsk, hitting the industrial area, without casualties.

Towards Donetsk, two people were injured and a private building damaged in Kurakhove. Ostrovske was also under attack in the community, 4 buildings were damaged.

Towards Horlivka, one person was killed in Kostiantynivka. 14 private buildings, 3 gas pipeline sections and the power grid were damaged. In Chasiv Yar community, 7 buildings were damaged.

Towards Lysychansk, a building and a non-residential building were destroyed in Siversk. There were 4 Grad attacks on Torske and Zarichne, Lyman community.

Mariupol City Council reported that russian tanks were brought to the occupied Mariupol to be repaired.

Petro Andriushchenko, Mariupol Mayor’s Councillor reported in telegram channel that explosions were heard in a number of districts of russian-occupied Mariupol.

Pavlo Kyrylenko, head of Donetsk RMA, noted that yesterday russians killed 1 civilian in Kostiantynivka. Three more people were injured in the region.

Luhansk oblast

Referring to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, in Lysychansk, 80 soldiers of the Shtorm-Z unit left their combat positions without permission and about 30 mercenaries of the Wagner PMC were sent to Bakhmut and stole military equipment.

The enemy’s ground activity in this area of the frontline has somewhat calmed down. However, it was not quiet  in the frontline settlements, russians continued to shell them with artillery. They hit Nevske and Bilohorivka. Currently, Nevske has the largest number of locals  among all liberated villages. They are targeted by the enemy every day, they understand the danger, but still have not decided to leave.

Luhansk Regional Military Administration reported that the invaders continue to re-equip local medical facilities to meet their needs. Recently, additional beds and equipment were brought to the railway hospital, where the injured invaders are being treated, because the medical facility cannot deal with the loads. In addition, maternity hospital #2 was re-organised into the Wagner military industrial complex.

The enemy continues to illegally take children from the temporarily occupied territories of our region. In some settlements of Schastia region, the invaders have already announced the so-called holidays for school students in summer camps in russian federation.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

KCMA reported that one person was killed and two others were injured due to a night attack by Shahed drones in Kyiv. The wreckage of downed drones caused fires and damage in Holosiyivskyi, Pecherskyi and Darnytskyi districts: several residential buildings, cars, a shopping center, warehouses, construction and a store were damaged.

Kyiv RMA reported that air defense in the oblast destroyed all drones launched by the russian federation that night. Buildings and property are damaged due to falling debris. In addition, falling debris led to a forest fire and ignited grass litter in several locations. Operational groups continue their work on fixing the consequences of falling debris.

Kyiv City Military Administration reported that the Ivan Bohun Kyiv Military Lyceum graduated 299 cadets, including 25 girls. Most graduates will continue their studies at military universities, become officers and create a new generation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Kyiv patrol police reported that a motorcycle patrol will operate on the roads of the city. His main task is to arrive at the scene first and perform his duties professionally. To provide assistance to victims of road accidents, to pursue and stop violators of traffic rules, to process reports of offenses on hot tracks.

Despite the massive nighttime shelling, the traditional annual “Run under the Chestnuts” was held in the capital on Kyiv Day. This year, more than 7,000 participants made charitable contributions. More than 100 corporate teams were formed, the largest of which has 650 participants.

The mayor of Kyiv Vitaliy Klychko announced that as long as there is a full-scale war in Ukraine, the capital’s authorities will not increase the fares on public transport. According to him, today’s transport in the city is subsidized, and the cost of travel is several times higher than the current cost.

On the eve of Kyiv Day, rescuers conducted safety training for children at Blockbuster Mall. The emergency workers familiarized the children with the profession of a rescuer and taught them anti-mine and fire safety. The children also had the opportunity to make anti-stress toys, take a photo in combat clothing and chat with a psychologist. All guests of the holiday received gifts from UNICEF Ukraine and capital rescuers.

Zhytomyr oblast

Head of Zhytomyr RMA Vitaliy Bunechko announced that during the air alert, the russian army struck one of the infrastructure facilities in Zhytomyr oblast. According to preliminary data, there are no victims or injured.

During the air raid, more than two dozen houses were damaged in Zhytomyr. According to the city council, the common areas of multi-apartment buildings were mostly damaged, stairwells where glass flew away. It was noted there that all educational institutions and health care institutions with damaged doors and windows are working as usual.

Students and teachers of Lyceum # 24 in Zhytomyr raised 350,000 hryvnias for a car for the Armed Forces. Over three thousand people joined the fund raising. It was launched with a charity fair and lasted for two months. Lyceum students loaded the trunk of the car with goodies, self-woven camouflage nets and other things for soldiers.

Sumy oblast

Sumy RMA reported that the russians carried out 18 shelling of the border. 88 explosions were recorded. The communities of Velika Pysarivka, Yunakivka, Myropillia, Khotyn, Bilopillia and Krasnopillia came under shelling. The enemy struck the territories of communities using mortars, self-propelled guns, AGS, and launched rockets from a helicopter.

At night and in the morning, the enemy carried out 8 shellings, a total of 23 explosions were recorded. Seredina-Buda, Svesa, Shalyhine, Yunakivka, Bilopillia, Krasnopillia communities came under shelling. 11 private houses and a power line were damaged with the explosion as a result of the launch of the gued air bomb on the territory of the Krasnopillia community.

A pre-trial investigation into the shelling of the town of Hlukhiv in Sumy oblast by russian troops has begun. According to the investigation, on the night of May 27, 2023, the civil infrastructure of the city was shelled from the territory of the russian federation with barrel artillery. As a result of shelling, the roof of a multi-story building was damaged, windows were blown out in three private houses, and fences and walls were cut by debris.

The competition for production of field stoves was held at the Sumy Higher Vocational School of Construction and Motor Vehicles. Nine welding students from educational institutions of the oblast took part in it. All stoves made by contestants will be handed over to the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Chernihiv oblast

The SBGS reported that the border towns of Tymonovychi, Zaliznyi Mist, Mykolaivka, Bleshnya, Chaikyne, Muravyi came under enemy shelling. In total, six shellings from different types of weapons were recorded in Chernihiv oblast: 22 explosions from artillery shells, 35 explosions from mines of 120 mm caliber.

A 13-year-old child was injured due to artillery shelling of the village of Chaikyne, after providing first aid, she was taken to the hospital for further examination. A hay store, a tractor and a car were also damaged.

Chernihiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office reported that five residential buildings and a power line were damaged as a result of artillery shelling in the village of Zalizniy Mist, Semenivka community. Over 1,000 subscribers in seven settlements of the Novhorod-Siverskyi region remained without electricity.

Chernihiv RMA reported that during another air attack, border guards and servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine destroyed the enemy Shakhed drone over Chernihiv oblast.

The ‘North’ Operational Command reported that russian troops shelled the border areas of Chernihiv oblast 4 times. 14 mortar hits were recorded in the area of Karpovychi village, 3 barrel artillery hits in the Muravyi village area, 9 barrel artillery hits in the Tymonovychi village area, 5 mortar hits in Zalizniy Mist village area.

A russian serviceman, the commander of the 74th separate motorized rifle brigade, Armen Abgarian, a native of the Kemerovo region, is being tried in absentia in the Chernihiv District Court. During the occupation of Chernihiv oblast, he ordered the looting of the Andriiivski Ozera recreation center and shot two civilians with his own hands. He fired three bullets at one of the victims, two at the other. As reported in the Chernihiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, a russian serviceman faces 8 to 12 years in prison.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

According to the head of the regional council Mykola Lukashuk, russian occupiers attacked Nikopol twice during the night. They shelled the city with heavy artillery. Six private houses, several outbuildings, a gas pipeline, and power lines were damaged. In the evening, the enemy fired from cannon artillery at the territory of the Myrove community. The occupiers attacked Marhanets community with a kamikaze drone.

The head of Dnipropetrovsk RMA Serhii Lysak announced that three people considered missing during the missile attack on Dnipro on 26 May were killed. These are a 56-year-old doctor and a 64-year-old employee of the damaged medical facility, and a 57-year-old employee of a neighboring veterinary clinic.

Vinnytsia oblast

​​ A memorial plaque in honour of Junior Sergeant Yaroslav Tchaikovskyi was installed in the village of Obukhiv, Vinnytsia oblast. It was placed on the building of the school where the border guard studied. His parents, friends, local authorities, students, and teachers came to honour the defender’s memory.

Kirovohrad oblast

In Kropyvnytskyi, a soldier presented a photo project dedicated to volunteers. All photos are documentary. They depict everyday life of volunteers.

Poltava oblast

Shirts with military themes and chevrons for Ukraine’s defenders are created in a Reshetylivka craft studio. The studio started sewing chevrons after the start of the full-scale war. Since then, over 1,500 have been made.

Cherkasy oblast

According to the Head of the Cherkasy State Administration Ihor Taburets, air defence forces successfully eliminated 2 enemy drones overnight in Cherkasy oblast.

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

On May 27 at night, the russian army attacked Huliaipole. A 39-year-old man was trapped under the rubble of his house. Rescuers pulled the victim out from under the rubble and took him to a medical facility.

Yuriy Malashko, head of Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration reported that 

russian soldiers made 77 attacks in Zaporizhzhia region over the past day. The enemy fire affected

21 settlements were damaged. So far, 12 new destructions of civilian objects have been recorded. Four civilians were injuries. 

The situation in Enerhodar is stable, but the russians can cause a catastrophe at any time. In case of emergencies, ZNPP together with the State Emergency Service of Ukraine has worked out all the necessary radiation control measures and conducted evacuation drills.

Due to the martial law, it was decided to ban the opening of the season at beach facilities in Zaporizhzhia, but people continue to lead their usual lifestyle and have a rest. 

Mykolaiv oblast

Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration reported that last night, the enemy fired twice at the Ochakiv community with artillery. There were no casualties. Last night there were several waves of launches of russian drones. Some of the enemy drones were flying over the territory of Mykolaiv region. The air defense forces and means of the “South” Air Command destroyed one enemy attack UAV “Shahed-131/136”.

At a charity fair in Mykolaiv on May 27, members of the NGO Always Faithful sold handmade jewelry, amulets, toys, and goodies. The funds will be used to support the soldiers of the 36th Marine Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces who were released from russian captivity. According to the organizers, the event raised almost 72 thousand hryvnias.

Odesa oblast

There are seven russian ships on duty in the Black Sea and one in the Azov Sea. None of them have missile launchers, they are stationed at their home bases. But the level of missile threat remains high. The “South” Operational Command said that a few hours are enough to put missile carriers on duty, and after a drone attack, the enemy often used missile strikes as a means of increasing pressure and psychological stress on the population.

An exhibition of Kherson artist Svitlana Yurieva titled “50 Shades of Green” dedicated to Ukrainian defenders opened in Odesa. The artist says that she wanted to thank the military and other people involved in the future victory of Ukraine with her watercolors.

Kherson oblast

According to Kherson RMA, russian occupiers fired 73 times at civilian settlements in Kherson oblast. They fired 335 shells from artillery, mortars, tanks, drones and aircraft. The enemy attacked Kherson three times, firing 11 shells at the city. An educational institution and a factory were hit. One person was injured.

On 27 May, the russian army attacked Beryslav district with guided aerial bombs. Several private houses were destroyed. 

Russian troops shelled two communities in Beryslav district. Beryslav, Zmiyivka, Novoberislav, Shlyakhove, Urozhayne and Chervonyi Mayak were hit.

Volodymyr Litvinov, head of Beryslav district administration said that as a result of the air strike on Novoberislav and Zmiivka, warehouses, houses and outbuildings were damaged. There were no casualties.

According to the “South” Operational Command, the Southern Defence Forces destroyed nine armoured vehicles, two large-calibre Hyacinth-B cannons, two converted boats and a russian military observation post in Kherson oblast. Seven russian army drones were detected and destroyed. 

National Resistance Centre reported that in the premises of one of the schools in Zaliznyi Port, Kherson region, the occupiers created a branch of the russian movement of children and youth “Movement of the First”. They are trying to eradicate  the Ukrainian identity from children and integrate them into the socio-cultural space of the russian federation.  

Latest news for today in the western regions of Ukraine

Volyn oblast

Representatives of Kovel RMA visited servicemen of the territorial defense battalion in the east of the country. They handed over the necessary help to the military and expressed their gratitude to the compatriots who defend Ukraine.

Zakarpattia oblast

During the working visit to Brussels, representatives of the RMA, the team of the Chamber of Regions of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities and Vsevolod Chentsov, ambassador Mission of Ukraine to the EU visited the headquarters of one of the most powerful companies in Belgium – Machiels Group. Louis Maciels, owner of the company, expressed interest in long-term cooperation.

Women and children from among IDPs presented his works at a charity art exhibition in Mukachevo. By selling paintings made in the Petrykiv painting technique, they have already collected over UAH 20K to support the defenders of Ukraine.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

In Kalush region, a shelter for 46 people is being prepared for compact housing of IDPs. College students with IDP status, their families, teachers of Kherson Vocational College of Culture and Arts relocated to Ivano-Frankivsk oblast will be able to stay in the shelter

The plaque to Hero Dmytro Dutsi was opened on the facade of Art School #3. The soldier of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was a full knight of the For Courage Order. He was killed in Donetsk oblast while performing a combat mission.

Lviv oblast

Students and management of Mykolayiv school #1 initiated the creation of the Ideas (Unity) Forum. Various events were organized within the Forum: trainings, lectures, master classes, competitions, relay races, fairs of sweets, a stand for weaving nets, a table of petitions, a charity lottery. They raised over UAH 110K for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Valentyn Vodolazskyi lived in the city of Popasna, together with his 80-year-old mother and brother. During the evacuation on March 21, 2022, the man lost his left leg. Thanks to the ultra-modern Superhumans Center clinic, Valentin underwent treatment in Germany and is currently undergoing rehabilitation.

The RMA reported that Lviv defense cluster will replace used armor with new bulletproof vests. Art objects will be created from armor plates that have been hit by bullets and fragments and will be sent to an art auction to raise funds to provide soldiers with the necessary means of protection.

Rivne oblast

The RMA reported that that night in the sky of Rivne oblast, two enemy drones were shot down by air defense forces.

Rivne should become a rehabilitation hub. To this end, they continue to develop Klevan hospital for war veterans, where they are creating a rehabilitation center for patients with spinal injuries. There are plans to build the third building of the medical facility.

At the training ground of Rivne oblast, servicemen of one of the military units of the Support Forces Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are improving their engineering and sapper skills. One group of sappers demines the area for educational purposes, the other demines. After checking the correctness and speed of work, groups are replaced.

Ternopil oblast

Pavlo Chernysh from Ternopil walks a thousand kilometers to raise UAH 2 million for the Armed Forces. The 24-year-old historian gathered the team on the social network. During the I’m Going for You project, three people cover a thousand kilometers. These are Yuliia Savchenko, migrant from the Crimea, Vadim, IT specialist, and Pavlo Chernysh. They left Kyiv on May 13 and are going to Uzhhorod. About 20 kilometers are covered every day.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

The RMA reported that since the war began, Khmelnytskyi oblast has received over 450K IDPs, almost 82K IDPs of them found shelter in the oblast.

Chernivtsi oblast

In Chernivtsi, over UAH 50K were raised at the concert of the Gherdan theater. The funds will be used to purchase a car for the military. The Gherdan theater-studio is one of the after-school institutions of the Department of Education of Chernivtsi City Council.
