It has been the 458th day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression. 

What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 6 pm:   

The russian federation continues to wage a war of aggression, regardless of its losses. The enemy is disregarding international humanitarian law, launching strikes and shelling not only military but also civilian targets.

In total, the enemy conducted 10 airstrikes and fired about 30 times from multiple rocket launchers at Ukrainian troops’ positions and civilian settlements. 

There is still a high threat of missile and air strikes throughout Ukraine.

The russian military continues to focus its main efforts on attempts to completely seize Luhansk and Donetsk oblasts. Over the course of the day, defense forces repelled 13 enemy attacks.

The situation towards Volyn and Polissia remained unchanged, with no signs of offensive groups forming. 

Towards Siversk and Sloboda, the russian forces launched an airstrike near Vovchansk in Kharkiv oblast, and fired mortar and artillery shells at the settlements of Hremiach in Chernihiv oblast; Zarutske, Hlukhiv, Buniakyne, Katerynivka, Obody, Myropillia in Sumy oblast, as well as Basove, Buhaivka, Hoptivka, Lukiantsi, Zelene, Ternova, Starytsia, Ohirtseve, Hatyshche, Vovchansk, Tykhne, Khatne in Kharkiv oblast.

Towards Kupiansk, the enemy launched an airstrike near Kyslivka, Kharkiv oblast. Kolodiazne, Krasne Pershe, Figholivka, Novomlynsk, Dvorichna, Zakhidne, Kyslivka and Berestove in Kharkiv region oblast came under enemy artillery and mortar fire.

Towards Liman, the enemy did not conduct any offensive actions over the last day. Nevske and Bilohorivka in Luhansk oblast and Torske, Verkhnekamianske and Spirne in Donetsk oblast came under artillery fire.

Towards Bakhmut, the enemy conducted unsuccessful offensives west of Khromove. Vasiukivka, Pryvillia, Orikhovo-Vasylivka, Hryhorivka, Bohdanivka, Chasiv Yar, Ivanivske, Stupochky, Predtechine and Pivdenne in Donetsk oblast were affected by hostile shelling.

Towards Avdiivka, the occupiers conducted offensive actions near Sieverne and Pervomaiske, but were unsuccessful. They shelled the settlements of Novokalynove, Avdiivka, Pervomaiske and Karlivka in Donetsk oblast with artillery.

Towards Mariinka, our defenders repelled seven enemy attacks near the town of Mariinka. At the same time, Heorhiivka, Marinka and Pobieda in Donetsk oblast came under enemy fire.

Towards Shakhtarsk, the enemy fired at Paraskoviivka, Novomykhailivka, Vuhledar, Novoukrainka, Prechystivka, Shakhtarske and Velyka Novosilka.

Towards Zaporizhzhia and Kherson, the enemy continues to conduct defensive actions. There were airstrikes on Chervone in Zaporizhzhia oblast and Zmiivka in Kherson oblast. Vremivka, Vilne Pole, Novopil in Donetsk oblast; Olhivske, Poltavka, Huliaipole, Charivne, Novodanylivka, Novoandriivka, Bilohiria, Mala Tokmachka, Stepove and Kamianske in Zaporizhzhia oblast; Sadove, Antonivka, Kherson oblast, and the city of Kherson were shelled.

In the temporarily occupied Luhansk, the russian occupiers continue to re-equip local medical facilities to meet their needs. Recently, additional beds and equipment have been delivered to the Railway Hospital, where the wounded invaders are being treated. In addition, the occupiers handed over maternity hospital No. 2 to the Wagner PMC.

The russian invaders cynically continue to illegally take children from the temporarily occupied territories of Luhansk oblast. In some settlements of the Shchastia region, the occupiers announced a so-called vacation for schoolchildren in summer camps in the russian federation.

Aviation of the defense forces conducted 4 strikes on buildups of enemy personnel and military equipment, as well as 3 strikes on anti-aircraft missile systems.

Rocket and artillery units hit a buildup of weapons and military equipment, 2 command posts, 2 ammunition depots and another important enemy military facility.


Vasyl Maliuk, Head of the SSU, announces that in 2022, more than 300 russian agents were exposed.   

According to the Decree of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, sanctions were imposed on more than 200 russian and belarusian companies, including many repair plants.

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

Kharkiv oblast

The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces reported that the russian army carried out airstrikes in the areas of Vovchansk and Kyslivka in Kharkiv oblast. russia also shelled at least 20 settlements with artillery and mortars during the day.

The Military Administration reported that a 61-year-old woman was killed in the shelling of Shypuvate village in Kupiansk region. In addition, a 60-year-old man sustained shrapnel wounds and was hospitalised. Currently, medics are providing assistance to the victim.

At night, around 2am, the enemy launched a missile attack on the village of Liptsy in Kharkiv region, using S-300 surface-to-air missile systems. One missile hit a garden, damaging a private house and outbuildings. The second one hit a field. There were no casualties.

Over the past day, the enemy continued to terrorize civilians in Kharkiv, Kupiansk, Chuhuiv and Bohodukhiv regions. At least 2 private residential buildings were damaged as a result of shelling of Vovchansk, Chuhuiv region, with MLRSs and artillery. 

In Vilcha, Chuhuiv region, 4 residential buildings and a power line were damaged.

In Basove village of Bohodukhiv region, 2 private houses were damaged as a result of mortar shelling.

Donetsk oblast

According to Serhii Cherevatyi, Spokesman for the Eastern Group of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, russian troops have reduced their assault activity towards Bakhmut due to heavy losses. Numerous statements by the leader of the Wagner PMC are a de facto surrender of the group. 

A memorandum of twinning and cooperation was signed between the cities of Kramatorsk, Donetsk oblast, and Perechyn, Zakarpattia oblast.

The State Border Guard Service’s aerial reconnaissance detected the movement of a russian infantry group near Bakhmut and destroyed them with the help of a mortar team. According to the border guards, mortar fire destroyed the enemy’s hideout along with 2 russian soldiers, and 3 others were wounded.

Anastasia Medvedeva, Spokesperson for the Donetsk regional prosecutor’s office, announces that a 72-year-old man was killed in Kostiantynivka, Donetsk oblast, as a result of shelling by russian troops. Private houses and an outbuilding were also damaged. In addition, according to her, a married couple was wounded in Kurakhove.                                                           

Over the past day, the occupants attacked 10 towns and villages in Donetsk oblast. There were 19 attacks on the residential sector. 

Towards Volnovakha, russians shelled Vuhledar with artillery 30 times and carried out 2 air strikes. Novoukrainka and Prechystivka are under fire.

Towards Donetsk, Maryinka, Krasnohorivka and Kurakhove community were shelled.

Towards Horlivka, 1 person was killed in Chasiv Yar community – 6 houses were damaged in the town. Another person was killed in Vasiukivka of Soledar community. The russians dropped a FAB-250 bomb on Niu York – 3 houses, a club, a gym, an outpatient clinic and a nursery were damaged. Kostiantynivka was shelled 3 times – 2 people were wounded, 7 private houses, 2 multi-storey buildings, an administrative building and an educational institution were damaged.

Towards Lysychansk, 2 people were wounded in Torske of Lyman community. A house was destroyed in Siversk and 2 houses in Zvanivka.

Pavlo Kyrylenko, Head of Donetsk Military Administration said that russians killed 2 residents in Vasiukivka and Chasiv Yar. Another 5 people were wounded in the oblast.

Luhansk oblast

Bilohorivka, Nevske, Dibrova and Stelmakhivka were shelled by the occupiers. The extent of damage will be clarified. Bilohorivka is under constant attacks from the russians – the enemy has failed to advance. The village also withstood an airstrike and massive shelling.

It is extremely dangerous to stay in the villages on the frontline. Only a few people a week agree to leave, like the day before yesterday. Those who could not be persuaded to leave were brought bread, some construction materials and food supplies. 

Luhansk RMA reported that cases of disobedience to orders and desertion are becoming more frequent in the ranks of russian troops.  For example, on 25 May, about 20 former prisoners who had recently undergone accelerated training and arrived to reinforce a unit located near Svatove, hijacked a KamAZ truck and fled in an unknown direction.

Near Kreminna, Ukrainian special forces engaged in a battle with superior enemy forces, russian casualties are being clarified.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

Another small armored gunboat Bucha was handed over to the Ukrainian Navy. According to Vice Admiral Oleksii Neizhpapa, Commander of the Ukrainian Navy, the vessel will join the river fleet created last year in Kyiv oblast. The Bucha was designed before the large-scale invasion of russia, but its construction and state approval trials were completed during active hostilities in the oblast.

Policemen are inspecting the places where the wreckage fell in Kyiv oblast and recording the damage. Andriy Nebytov, Head of the National Police of Kyiv oblast, reported that no significant damage has been recorded so far and showed the wreckage of russian missiles found in Kyiv oblast.

Kyiv residents voted in the digital app for new busts at the Universytet metro station. Instead of the busts of Alexander Pushkin, Maxim Gorky, Mikhail Lomonosov, and Dmitry Mendeleev, the authorities plan to install those of Mykola Pyrohov, Volodymyr the Great, Mykhailo Hrushevsky, and Vasyl Stus.

The Protasiv Yar festival  in the memory of Roman Ratushnyi has started in Kyiv. The hosts announced artistic events every month: concerts, lectures, film screenings, and excursions. During the events, funds will be raised to support the defenders of Ukraine.

A pilot project of the Ministry of Internal Affairs to ensure more transparent driving license exams starts on June 1. First, it will be tested in Kyiv, Lviv, Odesa, and Vinnytsia oblast. The changes will affect both the theoretical and practical parts of the exam.

A floral installation dedicated to ‘Da Vinci’, the fallen defender of Ukraine, appeared in the capital. To create the image of the Hero of Ukraine Dmytro Kotsiubailo, almost 15 K plants were planted and marble chips used as a background for the picture.

Zhytomyr oblast

Joint exercises on emergency rescue and first aid during a traffic accident that resulted in numerous victims were held in Zhytomyr. The exercises reproduced various types of injuries and traumas as realistically as possible, so that students who had never experienced such situations could have a feel for what it might be like, how rescue operations would be carried out, and how to prioritize the tasks.

With the assistance of the Club of Honorary Ambassadors of Zhytomyr oblast, the Tourism Transformation Laboratory was opened in the oblast. It aims to popularize tourist locations in Zhytomyr oblast, study local tourism attactions, provide methodological assistance for the development of tourist attractiveness of communities, and exchange experience in the tourism sector. The pilot project was launched in Andrushivka territorial community.

Sumy oblast

 According to Sumy RMA, on April 26, the russian forces launched 11 attacks. There were 58 explosions recorded. Seredyno-Buda, Nova Sloboda, Velyka Pysarivka, Shalyhine, Yunakivka, Myropillia, and Bilopillia communities were under enemy fire. As a result of artillery shelling in Velyka Pysarivka community, the Youth Art Center, the premises of a lyceum, and an administrative building were damaged.

The enemy conducted 9 attacks at night and in the morning. There were 34 explosions recorded. Nova Sloboda, Velyka Pysarivka, Hlukhiv, Shalyhine, Miropillia, Bilopillia, and Krasnopillia communities were under enemy attack. As a result of the attacks, 6 households and a power line were damaged.

As a result of a russian attack on the city of Hlukhiv, Sumy oblast, on the night of May 27, a multi-storey building and private houses were damaged. The Prosecutor General’s Office reported that law enforcement officers have opened a criminal investigation regarding the violation of the laws and customs of war.

The shelling of Sumy oblast, especially its border areas, continues from the territory of the russian federation. According to Sumy RMA, 11 civilians were killed and 32 wounded in May alone. Residential and commercial buildings, civilian facilities and infrastructure were damaged and destroyed. The number of attacks has doubled, and the enemy is using everything at its disposal: air strikes, MLRS, artillery, mortars, grenade launchers, and small arms.

An agrarian service aimed at improving food security has been launched in Sumy oblast. The community and the experts of the U-LEAD with Europe Program has developed a food security program for 2022-2023 in Znob-Novhorodske Council.

Chernihiv oblast

The ‘North’ Operational Command reported that russian military continues shelling Chernihiv oblast. Hremiach and Hlukhiv came under enemy fire at night. In total, there were 4 mortar bombs and 4 shells from barrel artillery.

As of 8 pm, russian troops shelled the border areas of the oblast four more times. There were 4 mortar bombs fired near Tymonovychi village, 18 bombs fired near Mykolaivka village, and 13 shells fired with barrel artillery near Zaliznyi Mist village. As a result of the shelling of Zaliznyi Mist, outbuildings caught fire, which was extinguished by rescuers.

A teenage girl was wounded as a result of shelling of Chaikyne village by an artillery unit. She received first aid and was taken to the nearest medical facility for further examination. Also, a hayloft, a tractor, and a car were damaged in the village.

Funds have been allocated in Chernihiv to overhaul the bridge over the Stryzhen River, which was blown up in the first days of the russian invasion of Chernihiv oblast in February 2022. The decision was approved at a meeting of the executive committee of Chernihiv City Council. Also, over UAH 19.7 million was allocated for the defense sector, including arrangement of positions, checkpoints and to fulfill a request from a military unit.

The regional center hosted a citywide charity sports event under the slogan “Health is a Step to Victory!”. The event was held in support of the 1st Separate Tank Brigade, which defended the hero-city of Chernihiv and is now performing its tasks in the hottest spots of the south and east of Ukraine.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

According to Mykola Lukashuk, Head of the regional council, on the evening of May 26 the occupiers attacked Marhanets community in Nikopol region with heavy artillery. In the morning, the enemy attacked the community again. A power line was damaged. 

Serhii Lysak, Head of Dnipropetrovsk Regional State Administration informed that the rescuers have finished demolishing the rubble of a medical facility in Dnipro, which had been hit by a russian missile the day before. Municipal services are still removing the destroyed structures. Two casualties have been identified. The found body fragments have been sent for examination. More than three dozen multi-storey buildings and more than 20 private houses were damaged around the hit site. A stadium, a lyceum, 3 schools, and 3 kindergartens were also damaged. 

A photo exhibition War in 35mm was opened in Dnipro. Soldier Serhii Balashov with the call sign Serebania presented his works. He photographed the war and his fellow soldiers with a film camera.

Kirovohrad oblast

A car rally was held in Kropyvnytskyi to support prisoners of war from Mariupol.  Almost 200 people from Kropyvnytskyi came to support the families waiting for their relatives to be released from captivity.

A charity athletics race was held to commemorate the Day of the City of Oleksandriia. The event was held under the slogan “Donate! Run!” and participants donated to take part in the race. In total, the event raised UAH 20,312, which will be used to help the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Poltava oblast

The Honourable Consul of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Afgan Salmanov, handed over a certificate for 12 TV sets and other equipment to equip a modular town for internally displaced people in Poltava.

According to Dmytro Lunin, Head of Poltava Regional State Administration, volunteers and representatives of socially responsible businesses from Poltava oblast have delivered another vehicle for the military. The vehicle will be used to transport the wounded to safe places and deliver provisions to the frontline. 

Cherkasy oblast

In Cherkasy, on Slavy Square, they said goodbye to Azov fighter, defender of Mariupol, Major Serhii Pavlichenko, with the call sign Bronia (Armour), who defended the Azovstal plant in the spring of 2022. Together with his comrades-in-arms, he surrendered by order of the command. He died on 29 July as a result of an explosion in Olenivka colony, where Ukrainian prisoners of war were held.

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

According to Zaporizhzhia RMA, on May 26, russian troops shelled 16 settlements in Zaporizhzhya oblast. One person was killed and another two injured.

Ivan Fedorov, Mayor of temporarily occupied Melitopol reported that russians are not paying people their salaries there. 

in Zaporizhzhia, the Department of Culture and Tourism together with an initiative group are developing a Memorandum on Street Art due to the resonance with the application of street art on architectural monuments . They are also planning to create a registry of walls where painting is permitted. 

In the town of Huliaipole, Zaporizhzhia oblast, two kilometers from the front line, the first Invincibility Centre was opened. Locals come here to do laundry, wash, get a haircut, eat and hide from shelling.

Mykolaiv oblast

According to Mykolaiv RMA, over Mykolaiv oblast, air defense forces destroyed 2 enemy attack UAVs of Shahed-131/136 type. 

Mykolaiv received six vehicles for the city’s municipal services and pipes to improve the water supply system, which was damaged by shelling. The vehicles and pipes were donated as humanitarian aid by the Embassy of Taiwan. 

The Mykolaiv branch of the Voices of Children Charitable Foundation has started to provide free psychological help to children and parents. Plans are also underway to establish support groups for adults and children who have experienced loss. Children and their parents will also be able to receive qualified psychological support, learn healing techniques and find a point of support within themselves to rebuild their lives and plan for a happy future.

Odesa oblast

The ‘South’ Operational Command said that for Odesa oblast, the threat of enemy missile strikes and kamikaze drone attacks remains high. 

In the morning, the russian forces were keeping six ships without missile carriers in the Black Sea, and as of 10:30 a.m., one carrier with eight Kalibr missiles was urgently put on combat duty. In addition, the stormy weather with thunderstorms and gusty winds forecast for Odesa region may contribute to bringing sea mines to the coast. 

This morning a charity fair was held in Pivdenne. It was organized by volunteers from Koblevo to raise funds to repair two vehicles that were used at the front and damaged, for the 126th separate brigade of the territorial defense, which includes soldiers from Pivdenne and Koblevo.

In Odesa oblast, international organizations and donors are being engaged to equip shelters in kindergartens.

Kherson oblast

In Sadove, the russian military shelled private houses. A 61-year-old woman was wounded. She was taken to the regional clinical hospital.

Oleksandr Prokudin, Head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration said that on May 26, the russian army fired 45 times at Kherson region with mortars, artillery, Grads, tanks, drones and aircraft. Kherson was hit twice. The shells hit residential areas and the territory of an elevator in Beryslav region. One person was killed.

On May 26, at around 8pm, russian troops shelled Antonivka. As a result of the attack, a local resident sustained life-threatening injuries. 

Volodymyr Litvinov, Head of the regional administration said that russian troops shelled three communities in Beryslav region. Beryslav, Zmiivka, Zolota Balka and Odradokamianka came under attack. As a result of the airstrike on Zmiivka, warehouses, agricultural machinery, houses and outbuildings were damaged. There were no casualties.

Kherson Military Administration reported that on the night of May 27, the russian army attacked Naddnipryanske. During the day, it struck seven times at the community’s territory. They shelled Antonivka, Molodizhne, Prydniprovske, the city center and Korabelny district of Kherson. They also shelled the left bank. One person was killed. 

The ‘South’ Operational Command reported that on May 26 in the area of Davydovyi Brod, Kherson oblast, defense forces destroyed a russian Orlan-10 drone. A total of 35 russian military personnel, five armored vehicles and a Murom-M video surveillance system were eliminated on the left bank.

Khersonvodokanal received 8 power modules of frequency converters. The equipment will be installed at the wells to maintain pressure in the network and save electricity. The assistance was provided by Care Deutschland Representative Office in Ukraine and Kherson Vodokanal.

Latest news for today in the western regions of Ukraine

Volyn oblast

A couple from the village of Duliby donated their own car to the soldiers from the 100th Territorial Defense Brigade, who were going to the front line to defend the country. The Niva was transformed into a military vehicle by the active and caring citizens of Turii. This is already the sixth car prepared for the front line.

Zakarpattia oblast

A charity run was held in Uzhhorod. The  UAH 17 K collected was donated to purchase a rehabilitation treadmill for students of Svaliava Regional Children’s Home.The home currently provides care and education to more than 80 children deprived of custody.These children are from Zakarpattia and other oblasts where hostilities are taking place, and some have been displaced from orphanages in Kiev oblast.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

A shelter for IDPs was opened in Verkhovyna region. The renovation of this facility was financed by the Hungarian Ecumenical Aid Service HIA and its partners as part of the Support for the Recovery of Ukraine project thanks to Switzerland.

Ivano-Frankivsk Perinatal Center hosted a charity event to support Ukrainian defenders. The collected UAH 32 K was donated to the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Lviv oblast

Italian cyclist Laura Morelli visited Lviv as part of the Italy-Ukraine bicycle race, which started on May 7 from Milan. She decided to cover a long distance from Milan to Lviv alone in support of Ukraine and raise funds for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Two more Veteran Wards were opened in Novoiavorivsk to treat soldiers thanks to the Kormil NGO. The rooms are fully furnished and equipped. The premises in Mostysk are being renovated.

Solidarity International registered for cash assistance at the Advice and Coordination Center of the Strii Military Administration. More than 90 IDPs consisting of about 60 families were registered.

Rivne oblast

The RMA held a meeting with military personnel serving in the oblast. Needs of the military, measures to strengthen the defense of Rivne oblast and optimization of checkpoints were discussed.

The first barrier-free Safety Classroom was launched in the Educational and Rehabilitation Center of Rivne. Pyrotechnic rescuers, policemen and medics will conduct classes there.

Ternopil oblast

The RMA held a briefing on the operation of the Recovery Army program. The Recovery Army is active in Ternopil oblast and over 200 people have already joined, including those who came to the oblast from areas where hostilities are taking place. The people engaged obtain wages, social security and guarantees.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

The RMA reported that during the last POW exchange, 2 soldiers from Khmelnytskyi returned home.

Khmelnytskyi City Council held a meeting with Michel Alfaro, Head of the Office of UNHCR. Cooperation and support of the city were discussed.

Chernivtsi oblast

Roman Klichuk, Mayor of Chernivtsi, announced that during the POW exchange, several soldiers from the city returned home from russian captivity.

On May 28, a charity concert will be held in Chernivtsi. Funds from the concert will buy tires and ammunition for the military in Bakhmut direction.

International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)

Lt. Col. Garron Harn, Pentagon spokesman, stated that the first group of about 400 Ukrainian servicemen began training in Germany on the operation and maintenance of American M1 Abrams tanks.

The Canadian government reported that the country will send almost 5 K assault rifles and 1 million cartridges to Ukraine. In total, the aid package contains 21 K small arms and 2.4 million rounds of ammunition.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Lindsey Graham, US Senator to discuss support to Ukraine.

The Office of the Prosecutor General reported that the International Association of Lawyers (IBA) adopted a resolution calling on UN member states to support the creation of a special international tribunal on the crime of aggression against Ukraine.

Rikard Jozwiak, Radio Svoboda journalist, reported that representatives of EU member states approved sanctions against citizens of Moldova involved in destabilizing Moldova and undermining the territorial integrity of Ukraine.

Leaders of the bipartisan Helsinki Commission called on the White House to give permission for the delivery of ATACMS to Ukraine. It can be launched from rocket launchers previously provided to Ukraine.

Joint statement of Buyar Osmani, current Chairman of the OSCE, Minister of Foreign Affairs of North Macedonia, Helga Maria Schmid, Secretary General of the OSCE, Margareta Soderfelt, President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, and Roberto Montella, Secretary General of the OSCE PA, stated that they condemned russia’s missile attacks on Ukraine, including yesterday’s shelling of a medical facility in Dnipro, and assured the support of the Ukrainian people.

Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, President of Brazil, announced that he refused putin’s invitation to visit the international economic forum in st. petersburg.

Three ships of the North Atlantic Alliance arrived in Helsinki. The Navy clarified that the arrival of the ships is part of NATO’s planned activity in the Baltic Sea. A little later, together with the ship Katanpää, they will take part in the BALTOPS 23 exercise.
