It has been the 453rd day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression. 

What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 6 pm:   

The russian army is pursuing its intentions to completely occupy the territory of Ukraine. They cynically continue to employ tactics of terror.

The russian federation conducted another massive missile and air strike on civilian and critical infrastructure targets in Ukraine. In total, russian troops launched 21 missile strikes on the cities of Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia, and populated areas in Kharkiv oblast, using 4 air-launched cruise missiles X-101/X-555 (destroyed by Ukrainian military ), 5 Kh-22 cruise missiles, 2 Iskander-M ballistic missiles, and 5 S-300 surface-to-air guided missiles, as well as 4 others (the type is being determined).

Additionally, russian soldiers carried out 42 airstrikes, including Iranian combat UAVs Shahed. According to updated information, Ukrainian troops destroyed 21 out of 21 drones. Furthermore, russian military conducted approximately 50 attacks with multiple launch rocket systems on Ukrainian military positions and populated areas. There are casualties among the civilian population, and residential apartment buildings, private houses, a kindergarten, and other civilian infrastructure have been damaged.

Ukraine is still under the threat of missile and air strikes across the entire territory of Ukraine. The russian army continues to concentrate its main efforts on the Kupiansk, Lyman, Bakhmut, Avdiivka, and Marinka directions. There were 25 clashes on these sections of the front during with Bakhmut and Marinka remaining the epicenters of the conflict.

The operational situation towards Volyn and Polissia did not change, with no significant signs of russian offensive group formations detected.

Towards Siversk and Sloboda, the russian army continues to maintain a military presence in the border areas with Ukraine. They carried out mortar and artillery shelling of the populated areas of Tymonovychi, Halahanivka, and Zarychchia in the Chernihiv region, as well as Khodyne, Hirky, Budky, Katerinivka, Tymofiivka, Oleksandrivka, Sumy oblast, and Morozova Dolyna, Shevchenko, Kozacha Lopan, Hoptivka, Lukianivka, Zelene, Starycia, Hatysche, Pletenivka, Vovchansk, Varvarivka, Nesterne, Budarky, and Chuhunivka, Kharkiv oblast.

Towards Kupiansk, russian soldiers conducted airstrikes in the vicinity of the settlements of Orlanske, Kyslivka, and Tabaivka in the Kharkiv region. Artillery and mortar shelling targeted Kamianka, Fiholivka, Novomlynsk, Dvorichna, Zapadne, Kupiansk, Husynka, Tabaivka, Berestove, Kharkiv oblast, and Stelmakhivka, Luhansk oblast.

Towards Lyman, russian military carried out airstrikes in the area of the settlements of Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region and Verkhniokamianske, Donetsk oblast. Artillery shelling affected, among others, Nivske and Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region, and Torke, Spirne, and Vesele, Donetsk oblast.

Towards Bakhmut, the russian army continues its offensive actions, and the fighting for the city of Bakhmut continues. Russian soldiers conducted air strikes near Bakhmut and Ivanivske. Vasukivka, Orikhovo-Vasylivka, Markove, Hryhorivka, Bakhmut, Ivanivske, Stupochky, Bila Hora, Toretsk, Pivnichne, Pivdene, and New York, Donetsk oblast were affected by russian shelling.

Towards Avdiivka, russian military conducted unsuccessful offensive actions towards Novokalynove and Vodiane. Russian soldiers carried out airstrikes in the areas of Avdiivka and Pervomaiske. They also conducted artillery shelling in the areas of Novokalynove, Berdychivka, Avdiivka, Vodyane, Pervomaiske, and Karlivka, Donetsk oblast.

Towards Mariinka, the Ukrainian Armed Forces repelled numerous russian attacks in the vicinity of the city of Marinka. Additionally, the village of Pobieda, Donetsk oblast was subjected to russian shelling.

Towards Shakhtarsk, russian troops did not conduct offensive actions. However, they carried out airstrikes in the areas of Vuhledar, Prechystivka, and Zolota Nyva. They also conducted artillery shelling on the settlements of Vuhledar, Novoukrainka, and Prechystivka.

Towards Zaporizhzhia and Kherson, the russian army continues to engage in defensive actions. At the same time, it continues to destroy the infrastructure of settlements near the front line. Russian troops conducted airstrikes in the areas of Mala Tokmachka and Novodanilivka in the Zaporizhzhia region. They also shelled the settlements of Vremivka, Novopil in  Donetsk oblast; Olhivske, Hulyai-Pole, Bilohirya, Mala Tokmachka, Novodanilivka, Novoandriyivka, Mali Shcherbaky in Zaporizhzhia oblast, as well as the city of Zaporizhzhia; Havrylivka, Berislav, Vesele, Kozatske, Burhunka, Antonivka, Veletenske in  Kherson oblast, and the city of Kherson.

The aviation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine carried out 8 strikes on the buildup of russian manpower and military equipment, as well as 2 strikes on anti-aircraft missile complexes.

Ukrainian troops also destroyed a russian Mi-24 attack helicopter and russian reconnaissance UAV during the day.

Units of rocket troops and artillery hit 3 areas of armament and military equipment concentration, 3 ammunition depots, 11 artillery systems, and russian radar station.


Energoatom reported that as a result of night shelling by russians, the last high-voltage transmission line of Dniprovsk 750kV, from which the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia NPP was supplied for its own needs, was disconnected. All NPP diesel generators were switched on automatically.

Head of the permanent delegation of Ukraine to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly Yehor Chernev announced that the NATO Parliamentary Assembly recognized russia’s crimes on the territory of Ukraine as genocide. A declaration supporting the restoration of Ukraine’s territorial integrity, as well as the “Marshall Plan” for Ukraine were adopted.

High Representative of the EU for foreign policy, Josep Borrel that Ukrainian pilots have started training on F-16 fighters. He also added that he supports the creation of an alliance to supply Ukraine with F-16 aircraft.

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

Kharkiv oblast

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, russian troops launched air strikes near Orlianka, Kyslivka and Tabaivka, Kupiansk region. At least 23 settlements were under attack. 

Oleh Syniehubov, head of Kharkiv RMA, said that the invaders shelled Kupiansk once again. Two women, aged 76 and 53, were injured. They were hospitalised in moderate condition. Private buildings, commercial buildings and civilian infrastructure were damaged. Emergency services are working at the scene.

Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office reported about russian shelling of Izium. A 10-year-old boy was injured. Maksym Strelnyk, deputy head of the Izium CMA said that air defence systems were operating and as a result, buildings were damaged by shrapnel. According to him, the boy was hospitalised in Kharkiv.

Yesterday, the invaders attacked settlements in Kharkiv, Kupiansk and Chuhuiv regions with artillery, mortars and rocket launchers.

Mykola Sikalenko, head of the Tsyrkuny Military Administration informed that as a result of a rocket attack on Tsyrkuny village, Kharkiv region, a residential building was destroyed. A civilian was injured. There were five hits in Tsyrkuny in three days. According to him, two buildings were destroyed as a result of the strikes.

In Vovchansk, Chuhuiv region, 6 buildings and outbuildings were damaged by hostile shelling.

In Chuhuiv, buildings of 2 recreation centres, catamarans and boats were damaged.

In Kozacha Lopan village, Kharkiv region, artillery shelling damaged 2 buildings and a bus, and killed and injured domestic animals.

In Kamianka village, Izium region, a 61-year-old man exploded on an unknown munition in his own yard. He was hospitalised with an injury.

Donetsk oblast

The battle for Bakhmut is raging. According to the General Staff, yesterday russians unsuccessfully tried to regain lost positions south of Ivanivske and attacked towards Hryhorivka.

Hanna Maliar, Deputy Minister of Defence, said that russian troops is gathering soldiers in Bakhmut. By defending the city, Ukrainian troops gained time for certain actions, which will be described later.

Andrii Yusov, representative of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine, informed that the russian army may deploy reserves in Bakhmut area but they are not properly trained. According to him, heavy losses of russian forces in Bakhmut do not correspond to the goals set or the results achieved.

Based on the information provided by Serhii Cherevatyi, spokesman of the Eastern Group of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Defence Forces advanced another 200-400 metres towards Bakhmut and the information about the semi-surrounding of the Wagner soldiers provoked the leader of the Wagner PMC, Yevhen Pryhozhyn, to announce his intention to leave the city for “reconstruction”.

Ukrainian anti-aircraft gunners shot down a russian helicopter that tried to shell Niu-York, Toretsk community.

American activist Mark Lindsquist arrived in Pokrovsk to create a podcast about the history of Ukraine. The man also aims to raise one million dollars for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He held his first broadcast in front of stele in Donetsk oblast.

Serhii Cherevatyi, spokesman of the Eastern Group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, reported that towards Lyman-Kupiansk, the Armed Forces of Ukraine destroyed four russian BMP-1, BMD-4, BTR-80, a Giatsint-B howitzer and two ammunition depots yesterday. Russians attacked 552 times positions of our troops in this area yesterday. The enemy also launched 16 air attacks. In six combat engagements, 54 enemies were eliminated and 84 injured. One more russian was taken prisoner.

Yesterday, russian troops launched a missile at a residential sector of Sloviansk.  In total, russia shelled 13 cities and villages yesterday. There were 24 shellings and 47 objects were damaged.

Towards Volnovakha, Vuhledar suffered 2 air strikes and 13 shellings – no casualties.

Towards Donetsk, 1 person was killed and 4 injured in Avdiivka. The city was shelled 9 times, including with cluster munitions, damaging buildings and the territory of Avdiivka Coke Plant. 1 person was injured in Heorhiivka, Mariinka community. Kurakhove community was shelled 4 times.

Towards Horlivka, 1 person was killed, 6 buildings and 2 industrial buildings damaged in Chasiv Yar. In Toretsk, 8 buildings, an administrative building and a school were damaged the day before and in the morning, russians launched two missiles at a mine and Invincibility Centre, no casualties. In Niu-York, 1 person was injured and 3 buildings damaged. In Nykyforivka, Soledar community, a shop was destroyed, 4 private and 3 apartment buildings damaged. Another building was damaged in Chervone, Kostiantynivka community.

Pavlo Kyrylenko, head of Donetsk RMA, informed that yesterday russians killed two residents in Avdiivka and Chasiv Yar. Six more people were injured.

Kostiantynivka and Druzhkivka are purchasing mobile shelters. According to the Prozorro portal, tenders have already been held and contracts signed with suppliers. Ten other cities in Donetsk oblast have signed contracts to purchase 28 POST type shelters.

Luhansk oblast

Even when not attacking, russians are keeping our defences and civilians in constant tension. They are not reducing their artillery pressure, even yesterday they launched an air strike on Nevske, where the largest number of people remain. Now the enemy is trying to compensate the losses with quickly trained mobilised soldiers. Their training has been reduced to a minimum.

Specifically, this applies to convicts who were gathered in one of the base camps in Starobilsk. Their training period is currently 10 days. Earlier, about 1,000 new prisoners were brought to this camp from places of detention in russia. The training was planned to last for four weeks.

Yesterday, Stelmakhivka, Makiivka, Nevske and Bilohorivka were under enemy shelling.

Referring to the Luhansk Regional Military Administration, in the temporarily occupied territory of Luhansk oblast, russians have reduced the training time for newly mobilised soldiers by almost three times due to heavy losses at the front.

In the temporarily occupied Sievierodonetsk, residents cannot call an ambulance due to intensified repression by the invaders. In case of acute attacks, people walk hours to get to the nearest hospital.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

Kyivmiskbud reported that a russian drone was shot down over Kyiv and attacked the capital on the night of May 20 crashed into a residential complex. Windows were broken on several floors, the structure of the building was also damaged, and some fence structures were destroyed. A neighboring house was damaged by the shock wave.

Kyiv RMA informed residents of the region that explosive objects were eliminated in Vyshhorod region of Kyiv oblast.

A memorial dedicated to captured defenders of Mariupol was erected in Kyiv. A plaster sculpture in the form of two hands tied with ropes appeared on Sofia Square thanks to the “Association of Families of Defenders of Azovstal”. The organizers emphasize that the installation will stand here until the last defender of Azovstal is released.

The Center for Primary Health Care in Irpin collected aid for countrymen defenders. Medicines, food, cigarettes and energy drinks such cargo will be sent to the front line to support the soldiers from Irpin.

A children’s charity football tournament was held in the city of Brovary. Teams from different regions of Kyiv oblast took part. Each team made a charitable contribution to the Armed Forces, an auction was also held a total of UAH 25,000 was collected.

Zhytomyr oblast

Zhytomyr oblast received 45 million hryvnias to arrange shelters in educational institutions. The public finds allocated will be used for the construction, reconstruction and overhaul of shelters. Zhytomyr RMA noted that more funds are required to satisfy the need, at least 130 million is needed. The funds received will be used to prepare 7 shelters in local schools.

A Polish volunteer brought 50 backpacks with medical equipment to Zhytomyr. Adam Zavadski, president of the Thank You for Freedom Foundation, has delivered humanitarian aid from Poland to Ukraine for the twelfth time. Some of the backpacks will be sent to Kherson and Bakhmut.

Sumy oblast

Sumy RMA reported that the enemy shelled 7 communities in Sumy oblast, striking their territories with 32 hits. Bilopillia, Myropillia, Krasnopillia, Seredina-Buda, Esman, Shalyhine and Hlukhiv communities came under shelling from mortars and artillery. Artillery shells damaged two houses in Seredyna-Buda region, and one more in Myropillia region.

Sumy RMA reports that the occupiers attacked the border areas of Sumy oblast with mortars. Two explosions were recorded in the Shalyhine community, four in Hlukhiv: two residential buildings and a power line were damaged here due to shelling.

The ‘North’ Operational Command reported that the enemy launched a rocket attack on the village of Horky in Nova Sloboda community. According to preliminary information, the missiles were fired from a helicopter.

In Okhtyrka, the movie “Cities and their heroes” was shown – an almanac of 6 documentaries about heroism of the Ukrainian people, highlighting the stories of ordinary people during a full-scale war. The project narrates about Kharkiv, Mykolaiv, Chernihiv, Okhtyrka, Bashtanka and Ivankiv. The hero of the film about Okhtyrka is the sound engineer and activist Pavlo Ignatchenko, whose studio turned into a sewing shop to produce military first-aid kits during the war.

Chernihiv oblast

The ‘North’ Operational Command reported that the occupiers attacked the Mykolaivka village of the Semenivka community in Chernihiv oblast. 5 hits were counted, probably from a mortar.

In the morning, the russian military continued shelling Semenivka region. This time the village of Tymonovychy came under shelling. The enemy fired 20 shells, previously from barrel artillery.

Head of Chernihiv RMA Viacheslav Chaus announced that more than 200 residents of the border area of Chernihiv oblast have left their homes, half of them are children. Currently, enemy shelling poses a threat to 40 settlements close to the border.

A 72-year-old resident of Chernihiv oblast embroiders the history of her native village of Prokhory. Anna Vyala, a resident of Nizhyn region, creates a book of the history of her village using embroidery on canvas. The idea came from Sofia’s daughter, a librarian at the local lyceum. Hanna embroiders page after page, relying on a book about the village from the local library. It is an embroidered story, decorated with Ukrainian ornaments, landscapes and other images.

In the village of Yahidne, which became known to the whole world due to russian crimes during the occupation and detention of residents in the school basement, volunteers are rebuilding destroyed houses. Help was provided by the Latvian government: houses for 7 families of local residents will be built with this money. Volunteers of the Ukrainian association Dobrobat are working on the construction site.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

According to the head of the regional council, Mykola Lukashuk, the East Air Command destroyed 15 enemy drones and four cruise missiles over the oblast.  However, there were some strikes. In Dnipro region, a man born in 1996 was injured, he was hospitalized in grave condition. The buildings of a rescue unit was attacked. About a dozen cars were damaged and the same amount destroyed. Two and a half dozen private cars and several buses were also affected.

In Dnipro, three buildings of a private enterprise were damaged as a result of the missile attack.  The wreckage of a drone fell in the Ilarionove community of the Sinelnikovse region. Missile fragments were also found at the site. As a result of the hostile attack, 7 people were injured, 2 of them in hospital. Administrative buildings, 6 cars, 12 private and high-rise buildings, a kindergarten, and 2 shops were damaged. The russian occupiers shelled the Nikopol region twice with heavy artillery. Marhanets and Chervonohryhorivka communities were attacked.

Vinnytsia oblast

The memory of nine KORD soldiers was honoured in Vinnytsia. They were killed in 2022 in Zaporizhzhia as a result of a russian missile attack. Only three of the twelve Vinnytsia special forces officers who were on duty there survived.

Vinnytsia Mayor Serhii Morhunov reported that Vinnytsia handed over 500 OSB boards to Balakliia. They will be used for temporary repairs of damaged buildings. There are many damaged buildings in Balakliia, as the city is still under hostile shelling.

Vinnytsia City Council reported that the Department of Education of the City Council together with Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs initiated a charity event to collect humanitarian aid for the military. Vinnytsia students sent food, personal hygiene products, colourful drawings, and touching letters to the defenders of Ukraine. 

Kirovohrad oblast

A rescue centre in Kropyvnytskyi has opened, where internally displaced people and local residents can receive anonymous and charge-free psychological help, legal advice, and information support. This is the eleventh Rescue Centre in Ukraine, which was opened in cooperation with the United Nations Population Fund and the Innovative Social Solutions NGO.

Poltava oblast

Poltava Regional Military Administration reported that a quadcopter, food, and other necessities were delivered to Ukrainian soldiers fighting toward Donetsk. 

Cherkasy oblast

Head of Cherkasy Regional Military Administration, Ihor Taburets, reports that Uman continues to recover after a russian missile attack on a high-rise building. So far, experts have made more than half a thousand reports on destroyed and damaged property in neighbouring buildings alone. 

Cherkasy Regional Museum of Local Lore Cherkasy Regional Museum of Local Lore reported that an exhibition of posters dedicated to the feat of Azovstal’s defenders was held at the museum. These posters were used in events and campaigns in the cities of Ukraine and Europe to remind and fight for Azovstal’s prisoners of war, the defenders of the city of Mariupol. They were created by Anna Biliaeva, the wife of a prisoner of war from Cherkasy, who is still waiting for her husband to be released from captivity.

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

During 2 days, russian military forces shelled the Polohy and Vasylivka regions 159 times. Specifically, there were two aviation attacks, nine attacks with multiple rocket launchers, 138 artillery strikes, and 10 instances of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) usage. As a result of the shelling, there have been damages to buildings and vehicles. The russian army targeted over 20 populated areas, including Orikhiv, Huliaipole, Zaliznychne, Preobrazhenka, Olhivske, Mala Tokmacha, Novodanylivka, Novoandriivka, Charivne, Chervone, Bilohiria, Poltavka, Malynivka, Shcherbaky, Huliaipilske, Zatyshshia, Stepnohirsk, Kamianske, Mali Shcherbaky, and Stepove. The police have received 106 reports of destruction. The highest number of hits were recorded in Polohy, in Orikhiv and Huliaipole. 

The enemy carried out 75 shelling attacks on 16 populated areas. The russian invaders used aviation to attack Novodanylivka, launched UAV attacks on Stepove twice, conducted missile strikes with multiple rocket launchers on Huliaipole and Preobrazhenka, and carried 70 artillery strikes on Novoandriivka, Mala Tokmacha, Chervone, Malynivka, Stepove, and Kamianske. There are damages to private houses, economic buildings, and vehicles.

External power supply from the Ukrainian power grid has been restored at the temporarily occupied Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant. The last high-voltage transmission line, Dniprovska 750 kV, which was supplying power to the temporarily occupied Zaporizhia NPP, was disconnected due to shelling by russian forces. However, despite the attack by russian military, the energy system of Ukraine is operating steadily.

Today, the official Media Center of Zaporizhzhia oblast has started its work. According to the Zaporizhia RMA, the Media Center will focus on working with the Zaporizhia community, including the temporarily occupied territories, through the media.

Mykolaiv oblast

On May 21, at 13:00 and 15:06, the enemy conducted artillery strikes on the city of Ochakiv and the coastal area of the Ochakiv community. As a result, residential buildings were partially destroyed, a car was damaged, and the gas network was affected by debris. There were no casualties.

Additionally, today in the morning at 4:59, the enemy carried out artillery shelling of the waters near the Ochakiv community. There were no casualties or damages reported.  According to Mykolaiv RMA, air defense forces shot down six enemy kamikaze drones, and another target, which is currently being investigated, was destroyed.

Volunteers from Mykolaiv branch of the Red Cross Society are providing free evacuation services for mobility-impaired individuals from Kherson oblast to Mykolaiv. They are transporting them to relatives or evacuation centers. On average, they transport up to 15 people per month.

Odesa oblast

On the night of May 21 to 22, the russians conducted another air raid on Ukraine, using aviation, missiles, and drones. The first strike occurred in Odesa in the evening. The residents of the city and surrounding region spent the entire night under the sound of air alarms, with a total of three alarms. During the night, the enemy launched the following attacks on Ukrainian territory:

  • 4 air-launched cruise missiles, X-101/X-555, from strategic bombers Tu-95MS from the Caspian Sea area.
  • 5 Kh-22 cruise missiles from long-range bombers Tu-22M3 from different directions: the Azov Sea and Kursk region.
  • 2 ballistic missiles “Iskander-M” from the occupied Crimea.
  • 5 guided surface-to-air missiles S-300 from the occupied territory of Zaporizhia oblast.
  • 20 Iranian drones “Shahed-136/131” from the south and north directions.

As reported by the “South” Operational Command, in total, 4 X-101 cruise missiles, one Su-35 fighter jet, and 20 strike drones were shot down, with one drone near Odesa.

Charity organizations handed over more than 20 off-road vehicles to the Marine Infantry unit in the city of Podilsk, Odesa oblast. Thanks to the support of members of the All-Ukrainian Agrarian Council, the Command of the Naval Forces of Ukraine has already received over 80 vehicles, distributed among brigades and battalions of the Marine Infantry over the past year.

A rock concert took place in Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi, raising funds to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Famous rock bands and solo artists participated in the concert, including Marsh Defile Bessarabian Style Band, Eterio, and soloists Oleh Kucheruk, Oleksiy Li, and DJ Larik. Numerous rock music fans enjoyed the music of their favorite musicians and took part in charity auctions. In total, approximately 9,300 hryvnias were raised during the event. These funds will be used for the needs of our heroic army.

Kherson oblast

A 45-year-old man was killed due to enemy strikes on Stanislav. A projectile fragment hit him in the heart, resulting in immediate death of the local resident. Four residential buildings were damaged as a result of the village shelling.

During the night, the enemy dropped two guided aerial bombs on Kizomys. One house was completely destroyed, and two others were damaged. There were no casualties among the local residents.

Yesterday, russian occupiers carried out 57 attacks on peaceful settlements in Kherson oblast, firing 318 shells from artillery, MLRS, mortars, tanks, drones, and aircraft. The city of Kherson was attacked four times, with 22 shells fired at the city. The enemy deliberately targeted infrastructure objects in Beryslav and Kherson regions. Due to the aggressor’s actions, some settlements are experiencing power outages. One person was killed yesterday as a result of russian aggression.

In the past two days, the police have initiated 26 criminal proceedings regarding war crimes committed by russian occupiers in Kherson oblast. In one of the settlements of the temporarily occupied Oleshky urban community, a 26-year-old man was abducted by russian military personnel in March of this year, accusing him of supporting Ukraine. The fate of the abducted individual is currently unknown.

The rector of the St. Princess Olha Church in Tokarivka, Dariivka community, Ihor Novosilskyi, has returned from russian captivity. He had been in captivity since September 2022. The man requires long-term rehabilitation as his health has been significantly affected by hunger and torture.

Charity organizations continue to provide humanitarian aid to the residents of Kherson oblast. Over 100 residents received medical assistance, medication, and eyeglasses in the village of Blahodatne. Additionally, volunteers conducted workshops, entertainment games, and gave gifts to the children of Blahodatne and Kyselivka. GEM HGBF generators from Global Empowerment Mission Ukraine were delivered to Beryslav region. The residents of Klapaivka received food kits and hygiene products from Nova Ukraine. Food kits for a charity kitchen were delivered in Zelenivka, 3,240 bottles of drinking water to the residents of Oleksandrivka, and 11,664 cans of canned food to the residents of the Musykivka community.

Doctors-volunteers from the Ukrainian-Israeli mission “FRIDA-UKRAINE” visited Kherson oblast. In total, 19 specialists were involved in providing medical services to the residents of Kherson. Over 700 consultations were conducted, along with 49 ultrasound examinations and 63 ECGs performed.

Latest news for today in the western regions of Ukraine

Volyn oblast

In Lutsk, near the Killed for the Unity of Ukraine photo booth, the memory of fallen soldiers was commemorated. On this day nine years ago, near Volnovakha, Donetsk oblast, pro-russian militants actually killed soldiers of the units of the Anti-Terrorist Operation forces. 18 Ukrainian soldiers have fallen there, including 10 from Volyn.

Zakarpattia oblast

Viktor Mykyta, head of the RMA, together with the team of the Chamber of Regions, the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities went to Brussels to represent Ukraine at the communication platforms of the EU. The visit included meetings with foreign partners in the EU Committee of Regions, Mission of Ukraine to the EU, participation in discussion of establishing cooperation between regions of Ukraine and EU countries, meeting with business representatives, the Ukrainian community, etc.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

The RMA reported that a car was sent to the Defenders with the support of Rotary International. District military administrations sent 5 cars to the front.

In Verkhovyna, the Alley of Glory of the Heroes of Verkhovyna region, who gave their lives for the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine in the war between russia and Ukraine, was opened. During the event, twenty-one fallen Heroes from the region were awarded with honors of the RMA and the regional council with the For services to Prykarpattia medal (posthumously). Awards were presented to the families of the fallen servicemen.

Lviv oblast

Fighters of the 24th separate mechanized brigades received equipment, namely 9 quadcopters and memory cards for them, 3 rangefinders, 22 units of thermal imaging optics, 5 Starlink terminals, 15 batteries, 915 m of cable and accessories, worth over UAH 4 million, from the Return Alive fund.

Lviv oblast received humanitarian aid consisting of household items for arranging housing for IDPs from the Republic of Poland.

70 drones were sent from Lviv oblast to defenders on the front line as part of the Birds of Victory charity project.

Brodivska community received three fire engines from the Swiss city of Bern.

The city education department of Lviv reported that a Family Fest family festival was held at Lviv Lyceum to raise funds for a car for the 125th Separate Brigade of the Territorial Defense Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. During the event UAH 517K was collected. 

In Zhovtanetsk community, the premiere of the performance based on Forest Song, Lesia Ukrainka’s extravaganza drama, by the amateur theater of the village of Kolodentsi took place. During the event, UAH 53K was collected to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

In the village of Dovhe in Drohobych region, a memorial sign Fighters for the Freedom of Ukraine was opened. The fallen Heroes Roman Boik, Dmytro Bobiak, Taras Zozulia, Ihor Ilchyshyn and Ivan Yuzefovych, from Medenytsk community, were honored.

Rivne oblast

RMA representatives met with representatives of the UNHCR Lviv office, specifically with Ryan Marshall. They discussed integration of orphans returning from abroad, psycho-social assistance and employment of IDPs.

Rivne oblast began to develop a program for the integration of IDPs in employment, housing, social protection, and educational and cultural areas. Almost 54K IDPs live in the oblast today.

Rivne oblast received 2.5K Ukrainian books as part of the campaign Ukrainian Children – a Ukrainian Book. More will come later.

Ternopil oblast

Serhii Nadal, Mayor of Ternopil, reported that 120 sets of summer uniforms, three DJI Matrice 30 series quadcopters and lanterns were sent to the military from the city.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

During the week, 44 IDPs arrived in Khmelnytskyi oblast by evacuation trains. Currently, over 82K IDPs are settled in the oblast. 1,4K kg of clothes were issued to 672 IDPs at the clothing distribution point at Khmelnytskyi RMA.

The RMA reported that a unit of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was given equipment for transporting goods and a chance tool from benefactors.

16 enterprises of the oblast have been identified as critically important for functioning of the economy and ensuring the livelihood of the population.

Chernivtsi oblast

Chernivtsi City Council held a meeting with Rebecca Garms, former deputy of the European Parliament, co-chair of the delegation in the EURONEST Parliamentary Assembly (parliamentary institution of the Eastern Partnership between the European Union and its Eastern European partners). They discussed further prospects and ways to overcome possible post-war challenges.

International support for Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russian invasion of Ukraine)

The G7 summit ended in Hiroshima. It was visited by leaders of Japan, Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy, Canada, France and the USA. Heads of the Council of Europe and the European Commission also visited the event. Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine was also invited.

Yehor Chernev, head of the permanent delegation of Ukraine to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, announced that the NATO Parliamentary Assembly unanimously recognized russia’s crimes against Ukraine as genocide, and the russian regime as racism. The assembly also called on the governments of their countries to openly announce at the summit in Vilnius that Ukraine will become a member of NATO and to agree on the next concrete steps for Ukraine’s accession to the Alliance.

Fumio Kishida, Japanese Prime Minister, announced that the country will provide Ukraine with 100 combat vehicles, 30K rations and $7.6 billion for post-war reconstruction. Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) has decided to insure Samurai bonds worth approximately 93 billion yen, which will be provided to Poland to help refugees from Ukraine.

Josep Borrell, High Representative of the EU for foreign policy, announced that Ukrainian pilots have started training on F-16 fighters. “This is the first thing to do. I hope that in the near future we can provide Ukraine with these types of weapons,” he said.

Rishi Sunak, British Prime Minister, announced that the country training of Ukrainian pilots on F-16 fighters will begin in summer.

“We have stood by the people of Ukraine from day one. And we will support them as long as necessary. We will confirm our support for Ukraine’s efforts to achieve lasting peace. The EU supports Zelenskyy’s peace formula,” said Charles Michel, Head of the European Council, after the G7 summit.

“I told Zelenskyy that the United States will begin training Ukrainian pilots on fourth-generation F-16 aircraft to support Ukraine’s ability to defend itself, so that they can stand up to the russian federation and be able to defend themselves better than before,” said Joe Biden, US President, after the G7 summit .

The IAEA commented on another blackout at the ZNPP. “Ukrainian ZNPP this morning lost all external electricity for the eighth time during the conflict, forcing it to rely on emergency diesel generators for power; the nuclear safety situation at the plant is extremely vulnerable. We must agree to protect the plant now; this situation cannot continue,” said Rafael Grossi, IAEA Director General.

Griffin Shock 23-1 military exercises have ended in Poland. 5 NATO countries (Croatia, Romania, Poland, Great Britain and the US) were involved and several hundred units of equipment and 3K soldiers were used.
