It has been the 445th day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression. 

What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 6 pm:   

The russian federation does not abandon plans to occupy the Ukrainian territory and continues to wage an aggressive war. They persist in launching attacks and shelling not only military targets but also civilian objects.

Russian troops carried out 6 missile strikes, including on the city of Kharkiv and the town of Zolochiv. They conducted 27 aerial attacks and approximately 20 shelling with multiple rocket launch systems targeting Ukrainian troops’ positions and populated areas. Civilians were affected, private residential houses were destroyed and damaged, as well as other civilian and administrative infrastructure.

Ukraine is still under the threat of missile and air strikes.

The russian army continues to concentrate its efforts towards Lyman, Bakhmut, Avdiivka, and Mariinka. In total, there have been about 30 combat clashes in these areas of the front, with Bakhmut and Mariinka remaining the epicenters of the fighting.

Towards Volyn and Polissia, the operational situation did not change. No signs of offensive formations were detected.

Towards Siversk and Sloboda, the russian army continues to maintain military presence in the border areas with Ukraine. They conducted mortar and artillery shelling of the populated areas of Hirske, Leonivka, Popivka, Chernihiv oblast, as well as Volfyne, Sadky, Sumy oblast, Oleksandrivka and Starytsia, Kharkiv oblast.

Towards Kupiansk, russian soldiers conducted unsuccessful offensive actions in the areas of Masiutivka and Synkivka. They carried out airstrikes near Vilshana and Kyslivka. Russian artillery and mortar shelling affected the populated areas of Kamianka, Topoli, Krasne Pershe, Fiholivka, Novomyrhorod, Dvorichna, Zakhidne, Kindrashivka, Tabaivka, Kharkiv oblast, and Stelmakhivka, Luhansk oblast.

Towards Lyman, russian troops did not conduct offensive actions. They launched airstrikes in the areas of Yampil, Bilohorivka, Verkhniokamianske, and Spirne. The populated areas of Makiivka, Luhansk region, Bilohorivka, Verkhniokamianske, Spirne, and Berestove in the Donetsk region were shelled by artillery.

Towards Bakhmut, the russian army continues the offensive actions. Intense battles for the city of Bakhmut are raging. Moreover, russian soldiers conducted unsuccessful offensive actions towards the populated areas of Hryhorivka, Bohdanivka, and Predtechyne. They carried out airstrikes in the areas of Ivanivske and Stupochky. The russian shelling affected Hryhorivka, Bohdanivka, Bakhmut, Ivanivske, Chasiv Yar, Chervone, Kostiantynivka, Druzhba, Pivnichne, Toretsk, and Shumy, Donetsk oblast.

Towards Avdiivka, the russian army conducted airstrikes in the areas of Novokalynove and Avdiivka, and carried out shelling of the populated areas of Stepove, Lastochkyne, Avdiivka, Tonenke, Netaylove, Pervomaiske, and Karlivka, Donetsk oblast.

Ukrainian troops repelled numerous russian attacks in the area of the city of Mariinka. At the same time, russian army shelled the populated areas of Krasnohorivka, Heorhiyivka, Mariinka, Pobeda, and Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region.

Towards Shakhtarsk, russian troops did not conduct offensive actions. They carried out shelling of the populated areas of Vuhledar, Novoukrainka, and Prechystivka.

Towards Zaporizhzhia and Kherson, the russian army continues to conduct defensive actions. They launched airstrikes in the areas of Kizomys and Stanislav, Kherson oblast. Russian troops carried out shelling of approximately 30 populated areas. Among them are Vremivka, Novopil in the Donetsk region; Huliiaipole, Zaliznychne, Bilohirya, Mala Tokmachka, and Kamianske in the Zaporizhzhia region; Nikopol, Dnipropetrovsk region; Zolota Balka, Vesele, Lvove, Antonivka, Dniprovskе, Kizomys, Kherson region, and the city of Kherson.

The Ministry of Defense of the russian federation continues to take measures to integrate the illegal armed formations of the so-called “DPR” into its own armed forces. Thus, an order has been issued to the entire personnel of one of the brigades of the 1st Army Corps of the russian armed forces, in which former servicemen of the so-called “DPR” are required to replace their military identification documents with russian military identification documents (ID cards) and to renew their contracts with the russian Ministry of Defense for a minimum term of two years of military service. In case of refusal, these individuals will be sent to the most dangerous frontline areas to participate in assault operations as part of advanced units.

The aviation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine conducted 12 strikes on the areas where russian personnel and military equipment were concentrated.

In addition, Ukrainian soldiers destroyed 3 reconnaissance UAVs, 2 of which were of the “Orlan-10” type and 1 was a “Supercam” UAV.

The units of the Missile Forces and Artillery of Ukraine hit 1 command post, 6 areas where russian personnel buildup, 2 artillery units in firing positions, and another important target of the russian army.


In russia, 3 helicopters were shot down by air defense forces on Saturday. This was reported by Air Force spokesman Yuriy Ihnat. He also noted that the total number of lost aircraft is 5 units. 

On the night of May 14, the air defense of Ukraine destroyed three cruise missiles and 25 unmanned aerial vehicles. This was reported by the press service of the command of the Air Force of Ukraine. 

TheBritish Ministry of Defense reported that russian group on the territory of Ukraine consists of over 200,000 military personnel. They are included in 70 regiments and brigades, divided into 5 groups of troops.

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

Kharkiv oblast

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, russian troops tried to advance near Masiutivka and Synkivka, and also launched air strikes near Vilshana and Kyslivka, Kupiansk region. Russia was not successful in its offensive attempts.

Oleh Syniehubov, head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration reported that Starytsia village, Chuhuiv region, was hit today. Two civilians were killed in the shelling: a 59-year-old woman and a 65-year-old man.

Regional Rescue Department said that russia also shelled Podoly village with artillery. A building and a garage were damaged, there were no casualties.

Last night, the enemy launched missile attacks, using S-300 systems, at Kharkiv and Zolochiv of Bohodukhiv region. In Novobavarskyi district, a transport infrastructure facility, a dormitory building and an apartment building were damaged.

In Zolochiv, two missiles hit the ground between residential buildings. Windows were broken and two garages destroyed. Fortunately, there were no casualties.

Yesterday the enemy shelled settlements of Kupiansk, Chuhuiv and Kharkiv regions with artillery, mortars and aircraft.

As a result of enemy shelling from Smerch MRLs, a private household was damaged in Kupiansk.

In Khatnie village, Kupiansk region, shelling damaged at least 4 private residential buildings and caused a fire. A 43-year-old woman was injured and hospitalised.

A residential building was damaged in Ohirtseve village, Chuhuiv region, a 61-year-old man sustained shrapnel wounds and was hospitalised.

At least 3 residential buildings were damaged as a result of shelling in Vovchansk, Chuhuiv region.

Mine clearance is ongoing. Yesterday pyrotechnics of the State Emergency Service examined more than 10 hectares of territory and defused 117 explosive ordnance.

Donetsk oblast

Hanna Maliar, Deputy Minister of Defence, reported on her Telegram channel that defense forces continue to advance towards Bakhmut in the suburbs, with Ukrainian troops taking control of more than 10 russian military positions over the day.

Serhii Cherevatyi, spokesman of the Eastern Group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, said during a live broadcast of Yedyni Novyny TV marathon that the most important thing in the operation towards Bakhmut is constant attacks to destroy russian manpower and equipment, encircle the invaders, and not to go for a “head-on assault”.

Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine informed on Telegram that servicemen of the Special Operations Forces from the “Ghosts of Bakhmut” unit eliminated 12 russian servicemen towards Bakhmut.

Institute for the Study of War stated in a report that during the latest counterattacks, Ukrainian troops liberated 16.85 square kilometres from russian invaders near Bakhmut. . According to the ISW, the Defence Force gained new positions on the outskirts of Kurdiumivka and pushed the enemy back across the Siverskyi Donets-Donbas canal.

Three civilians, including a minor, were injured in today’s shelling of Kurakhove. Russians used Uragan MRLs – 5 apartment and 3 private buildings were damaged. In addition, the heat supply network was cut off. Rescuers and police are working at the scene.

Yesterday the invaders shelled 12 settlements in Donetsk oblast 26 times. In total, 86 objects were damaged. Russians used Smerch, Uragan and Grad multiple rocket launchers, artillery, tanks and mortars.

The day before, Russians launched a massive attack on Kostiantynivka: 2 people were killed and 10 injured. 8 private buildings, 7 apartment buildings, 2 industrial and 5 infrastructure facilities were damaged. The enemy also shelled Druzhkivka with cluster munitions, injuring 2 people and damaging 2 buildings.

Towards Volnovakha, 2 people were injured in Bohoiavlenka, Vuhledar community. Prechystivka, Maksymivka and Vuhledar were under attack.

Towards Donetsk, 4 people were killed in Avdiivka. Kurakhove community was shelled 6 times: 3 apartment buildings in Kurakhove, 4 private buildings in Ostrivske and 1 building in Vovchenka were damaged.

Towards Horlivka, 2 people were injured in Toretsk community, 30 buildings, 4 infrastructure facilities and an administrative building were damaged. In Chasiv Yar community, 1 building was destroyed and 3 more damaged. In Soledar community, 5 buildings were damaged in Vasiukivka.

Towards Lysychansk, 2 buildings were destroyed in Zvanivka.

Pavlo Kyrylenko, head of the Donetsk Regional Military Administration said that yesterday Russians killed 7 civilians: 5 in Avdiivka and 2 in Kostiantynivka. Another 16 people were injured.

Reffering to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, russia’s Ministry of Defence continues to integrate illegal armed groups of the so-called “Donetsk People’s Republic”” into its armed forces. The militants are being forced to obtain russian military cards and if they refuse, they will be sent to the most dangerous areas of the frontline.

Luhansk oblast

The enemy attempted to advance in Svatove region. However, thanks to the courage of our defenders, all russian attempts to advance near Novoselivske and towards the eastern outskirts of Stelmakhivka failed. Yesterday there were artillery duels near Bilohorivka and Kreminna. The enemy launched an airstrike on Bilohorivka. Stelmakhivka, Makiivka and Bilohorivka were targeted.

The so-called “Luhansk People’s Republic” introduced a “law” that allows the occupation authorities to apply to the court for recognition of municipal ownership of ownerless buildings, structures, premises and unfinished construction projects. Those are objects whose ownership has not been confirmed by the invaders. In fact, they are stealing what they like, but with a piece of paper that is valid only in the occupied territory.

The enemy continues to try to replace its losses in manpower with prisoners from russia. Recently, about 200 such prisoners arrived at one of the enemy’s field camps in the temporarily occupied Rohove, near Novopskov, to undergo a four-week general military training course. Up to 250 more men are expected to arrive by the end of the month. In neighbouring Mozhniakivka, the invaders have organised training for up to 800 newly arrived Russian prisoners.

The enemy understands that this replenishment will soon end, so at the same time new medical teams from Russian Federation arrived in the occupied territories of Luhansk oblast. This time, 11 brigades from Bashkortostan. They were immediately sent to military hospitals.

Luhansk Regional Military Administration reported that in Troitske community, the invaders set a deadline to get a russian passport by May 24. Otherwise, they would be fired. In addition, without this document, doctors no longer accept patients and benefits have been suspended. Even the passport of the so-called ” Luhansk People’s Republic” is not valid.

Kyiv oblast

The head of Kyiv City Military Administration Serhiy Popko said that air defense destroyed all the drones that the enemy launched in the direction of the capital at night. According to him, these were most likely reconnaissance drones used by russia to identify air defense positions.

The Office of the Prosecutor General reported that Kyiv court decided to hand over the weapons and cars seized by law enforcement officers to the assault brigades of the “Offensive Guard” to carry out combat missions at the front. All of the transferred weapons were discovered and seized by prosecutors as part of an investigation into criminal proceedings for illegal handling of weapons, ammunition or explosives.

A new modular town was opened in Irpin for people who lost their houses due to military operations. The event was held with the participation of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Finland Jaakko Lehtovirt. In total, Irpin received 12 Finnish townhouses with three apartments in each – that’s 36 full-fledged apartments equipped with everything necessary for a comfortable life.

In the city of Kyiv, the Ukrainian Women’s Guard (UWG) started a 4-month self-defense course for women. School participants will study the correct choice of position for defense, anatomical features for effective self-defense, self-defense with improvised means, features of self-defense in various conditions, and exercises to overcome the psychological barrier before resistance.

Another training course for women in tactical medicine was held today, which is held on a regular basis for all interested parties by UWG. The class is conducted by a military volunteer with experience in conducting courses in tactical medicine and pre-medical training for military and civilians. The training was held with the support of the Kyiv City Council at Vcentri HUB Obolon.

The KSCA reported that “Kyiv Invincible” sports event for the rehabilitation of veterans and their families was held for the second time in Kyiv’s “Muromets” park. The participants also received advice on balanced nutrition from professional athletes and experienced trainers.

Zhytomyr oblast

In the village of Toporishche of the Khoroshiv community, a repaired bridge over the Trostyanitsa River, which was blown up in the spring of 2022 during the battles for Zhytomyr oblast, was opened for traffic. As reported by the Service for Reconstruction and Development of the Region’s Infrastructure, one of the main transport arteries of the oblast – the M-21 highway, which connects dozens of urban and rural communities with Zhytomyr, including Ovruch and Korosten – has been fully restored.

The ATO veteran from Zhytomyr, Oleksandr Shvetsov, together with his brother from Kyiv, will run the “Born from the Flame” marathon to raise over UAH 3 million for the purchase of a gastroscope for a Kyiv hospital. They will start on May 15, each from their own city, and meet in the middle of the track. The total distance that the boys plan to cover to meet each other is 120 km.

Sumy oblast

Sumy RMA reported that the russians carried out 6 shelling of the border area. 65 explosions were recorded. The communities of Velika Pysarivka, Esman, Bilopillia and Krasnopillia came under shelling. The enemy attacked with mortars, self-propelled guns and grenade launchers.

The russian military continues to shell the communities of Sumy oblast. As a result of mortar fire at night, a power line was damaged in the Khotyn community. In the village of Znob-Novhorodske, shelling from barrel artillery was recorded – the building of the Administrative Services Center was damaged.

During a year of fruitful work, the volunteers of the Romny construction Dobrobat restored more than 10 objects, dismantled rubble at 23 objects. These are dispensaries, private and apartment buildings, and state institutions. In total, the volunteers made 105 trips to restore and clear rubble and traveled more than 18,000 km in Sumy oblast, namely in Okhtyrka, Trostyanets, Boromlya, Buryn, Bilka, Vorozhba and Romny region.

International partners will help the Sumy Central City Hospital to build its own power plant. “Ekoclub” and benefactors from the Czech Republic, Poland and Germany have already collected 27,500 euros for the construction of a solar power plant for a medical facility. For this purpose, they plan to allocate 18,500 euros from the community budget.

Chernihiv oblast

Last day and night, five attacks from various types of weapons were recorded in Chernihiv oblast: 10 explosions of 120 mm caliber mines, 7 explosions from artillery shells. As reported in the SBGS, the border settlements of Krasnyi Khutir, Hremiach, Yanzhulivka, Leonivka came under enemy shelling.

Dorohynka Lyceum, located in Ichnya region, is one of the three educational institutions of the oblast, which were included in the presidential program “Great Restoration”. The total cost of the project to restore the institution, which suffered as a result of hostilities, is up to UAH 30 million. Currently, the institution operates on a full-time basis.

The Ukrainian charitable organization Energy Act For Ukraine Foundation is equipping Chernihiv Regional Children’s Hospital and Ivankiv Central District Hospital with hybrid solar systems.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

At night, russian troops shelled the Pokrovsk community of the Nikopol region. They fired about a dozen shells from heavy artillery. An infrastructure facility and a transport company were damaged. There were no casualties or wounded.

In the afternoon, the Marhanets community of the Nikopol region was shelled. 2 people were wounded. A 38-year-old man and a woman were hospitalized in moderate severity. They have mine-blast injuries, contusions, and shrapnel wounds.

Journalists from the RADA TV channel and the Spanish RTVE visited Nikopol. The journalists visited the sites of recent shelling, and talked to witnesses and residents whose homes were damaged.

Vinnytsia oblast

​​Since the beginning of the full-scale war, 4328 IDPs have applied to the Vinnytsia Regional Employment Service. To date, 1090 IDPs have been employed in the region.

Kirovohrad oblast

In Oleksandriia, Kirovohrad oblast, the unification of the burial sites at the military cemetery is being considered. This way, all families will be able to either install monuments at the burial sites of their soldiers or have their expenses reimbursed if they have already arranged the grave of their deceased relatives. It is also planned to completely renovate the military cemetery itself.

The Princely Yard 2023 dog show has started in Kropyvnytskyi today. The event is a fundraiser for the Svyatoslav the Brave Regiment charity fund, which will be used to support the Ukrainian army, and a charity fair held by volunteers from the BIM animal welfare organization.

Poltava oblast

Poltava oblast will receive UAH 54 million to equip school shelters. From the applications submitted by the communities, those that meet the criteria for project implementation will be selected.  22 communities in Poltava oblast have submitted project applications for the construction of shelters in educational institutions.

Cherkasy oblast

In Uman, the memorial to the Heroes of the russian-Ukrainian War has been updated and the names of all the heroes of the Uman region have been added to the plaques. The plaques contain the names and photos of the fallen heroes of the Uman region, as well as a QR code that allows you to learn more about those who defended Ukraine at the cost of their lives.

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

Since the morning, the enemy has been shelling the village of Novoiakivka in Zaporizhzhia region using artillery. A house, in which a 48-year-old woman was injured, was completely destroyed. In addition, a village store caught fire and residential buildings were damaged. Information on the consequences is being clarified.

Over the past day, the russian army shelled 18 settlements in Zaporizhia oblast, launching 95 attacks. The occupiers carried out 86 artillery strikes, 2 aviation strikes, 4 with multiple launch rocket systems, and 3 UAV attacks. During the massive attack on the front-line town of Huliaipole, a 64-year-old man was injured. Experts recorded 28 reports of damage to civilian objects.

According to the State Emergency Service, on May 13 rescuers extinguished a fire in four garages and two cars with a total area of 46 square meters in Polohy region and caused by enemy shelling.

During the past day, sappers removed one cassette fragmentation-fuze element and one remnant of projectiles from the “Smerch” MLRS in populated areas of Zaporizhzhia region. In total, 25 rescuers and 7 units of equipment were involved in carrying out humanitarian demining, fire extinguishing, and providing assistance.

The General Staff reports that the enemy continues replenishing its losses in personnel by means of imprisoned individuals from the russian federation. About 400 mercenaries from the ranks of russian prisoners recruited by the Wagner PMC recently arrived at the military training ground near Novopetrivka in Zaporizhzhia oblast. The training will last for several weeks. In the near future, another 400 mercenaries from the ranks of russian convicts are expected to arrive for military training.

Mykolaiv oblast

In Mykolaiv, public utilities continue to repair the damage premises caused by the russian shelling. According to Mayor Oleksandr Senkevych, crews of the Pilot utility company are sewing up windows in four high-rise buildings. On May 13, employees of Parks and ELU Avtoshlyakh removed almost all the debris and rubble. They will continue to remove the debris that people take out of their apartments. Utilities are restoring electricity and gas supply.

An exhibition of photographs titled “Unconquered South” dedicated to the daily heroism of border guards was held in Mykolaiv. The exhibition includes 33 photos, each of which tells the story of the defenders on the front line. The photo exhibition has already been presented in Odesa, and the organizers plan to visit many other cities in Ukraine.

Odesa oblast

In the north of Odesa oblast, last night, in some localities, the flight of russian cruise missiles was heard during another missile strike. According to the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the russians attacked Ukraine with Kalibr missiles from ships in the Black Sea, as well as X-101/X-555/X-55 cruise missiles from Tu-95m strategic aircraft.

Due to the russian attack, several trains in the Odesa direction are running behind schedule. As of 10:00 a.m. on May 14, 13 out of 66 Ukrzaliznytsia trains were running more than an hour behind schedule.

Kherson oblast

Today, the russian army shelled the village of Respublikanets in Beryslav region. An enemy shell hit a private house. As a result of the shelling, a 64-year-old man received fatal injuries.

Russian occupiers shelled peaceful settlements in Kherson oblast 90 times, firing 434 shells from artillery, MLRS, mortars, tanks, drones, and aircraft. The enemy attacked Kherson twice byfiring 15 shells at the city. Russian troops targeted residential areas of populated areas in the region, as well as an educational institution and critical infrastructure facility in Beryslav region. Yesterday, six people were injured with varying degrees as a result of russian aggression.

That night, the enemy again attacked Kizomys and Stanislav with four guided aerial bombs. An impact drone was directed towards Chornobaivka region. There were no human casualties.

The “South” Operational Command reported that the situation in their area of responsibility remains complex and tense. Defense forces continue counter-battery combat. Our aircraft struck at the enemy manpower buildup in Kahovka region. As a result of carrying out fire tasks, the losses of the enemy amounted to 16 russists, 5 strike and tactical unmanned aerial vehicles, 5 combat armored vehicles, a self-propelled mortar “Tulip”, 2 large-caliber guns, and another 4 units of automotive equipment. In addition, two field ammunition depots and two video surveillance cameras were destroyed.

An unexploded shell left by russian army exploded at one of the agricultural enterprises in the village of Myroliubivka of the Novovorontsovka community. As a result, 5 civilians were killed.

According to Kherson RMA,sappers have already examined 37,430 hectares of territory in the de-occupied Kherson oblast, of which 32,241.5 hectares are agricultural land. Over 68.4 thousand explosive items were found and disposed of on these territories.

Volyn oblast

A charity concert of sacred music Despite the War. Faith. Hope. Spring performed by the bishop’s choir of the Holy Trinity Cathedral was held in Lutsk. All collected funds (almost UAH 25K) were donated to the Angar volunteer center for the purchase of cars for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Zakarpattia oblast

On May 14, the Day of Mourning for the fallen defenders from Uzhgorod was declared in Uzhhorod. On May 11, seven servicemen of the 68th Separate Battalion of the Territorial Defense of Zakarpattia were killed at the front while defending Ukraine.

RMA representatives met with Bartosz Cichotskyi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Poland to Ukraine. Regional development within the framework of international cooperation was discussed.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

The RMA held a meeting with the delegation of the Podkarpackie Voivodeship (the Republic of Poland), headed by Vice Marshal Stanislav Krucek, member of the Voivodeship Board. Ternopil oblast

As of this morning, the fire has been contained. 18 pieces of equipment and over 80 personnel were involved in the work. As a result of enemy attacks, two civilians were injured. The enemy attacked the city for the second time around 5 o’clock in the morning on May 14. As a result of the missile attack, civilian buildings and cars were damaged.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

Oleksandr Simchyshyn, Mayor of Khmelnytskyi, announced that in the city in order to repair buildings damaged after the enemy attack on May 13, over 2 250 square meters of film were issued, over 300 square meters of glass were cut, eight roofs of apartment buildings were repaired, and applications from over 800 citizens were accepted.

The RMA reported that with the assistance of the UNHCR, 8K m2 of window films and 7K units of slate sheets are planned to be delivered to the residents who suffered from the enemy attack on May 13.

Chernivtsi oblast

The city council of Chernivtsi reported that in the city families of missing and captured servicemen can receive free legal assistance at the Center for Helping Survivors. 

International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)

Olaf Scholz, German Chancellor, officially announced a new package of military aid worth EUR 2.7 billion, which includes 20 Marder BMPs, 30 Leopard tanks, 15 Gepard, 4 IRIS-T SML air defense systems, etc., to Ukraine.

Because without that there is nothing to talk about,” said Olaf Scholz, German Chancellor.

According to the Ministry of Defense of Great Britain, the russian group in Ukraine consists of over 200K soldiers, who are part of 70 regiments and brigades and are divided into 5 groups of troops.

The Ministry of Reintegration reported that the Polish railway will launch additional flights to Ukraine.
