War in Ukraine today: latest news, March 21, 2023 (photo)

It has been the 391st day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression.

What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 6 pm:

The russian federation continues its armed aggression against Ukraine, focusing its main efforts on attempts to fully occupy Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts within their administrative borders. The enemy continues its offensive operations towards Lyman, Bakhmut, Avdiivka, Marinka, and Shakhtarsk. The fiercest fighting is for Bakhmut and towards Avdiivka.

The russian aggressor continues to use its usual tactics of terrorizing civilians, shelling residential areas and critical infrastructure.

On March 21, the enemy launched 4 missile and 24 air strikes, as well as more than 30 MLRS attacks.

There is still a threat of enemy strikes across Ukraine.

Towards Volyn, Polissia, Siversk, and Sloboda, there are no significant changes in the operational situation, and no formation of offensive groups of the adversary were found. The russian leadership continues to use the infrastructure of the republic of belarus to train its troops. The enemy maintains its military presence in the border areas. On March 21, the enemy shelled Khrinivka, Mykhalchyna Sloboda (Chernihiv oblast), Atynske, Iskryskivshchyna, Volfyne, Pavlivka, Popivka (Sumy oblast), Basove, Kozacha Lopan’, Strilecha, Hlyboke, Vovchansk, and Velykyi Burluk (Kharkiv oblast).

Towards Kupiansk and Lyman, the enemy continues its attempts to break through the Ukrainian defense. There were unsuccessful offensive operations towards the settlements of Masiutivka, Novoselivske, Bilohorivka, and Verkhniokamianske. The invaders fired artillery at the vicinities of Krasne Pershe, Dvorichna, Kupiansk, Krokhmalne, Berestove (Kharkiv oblast), Nevske, Bilohorivka (Luhansk oblast), Torske, Spirne, and Fedorivka (Donetsk oblast).

Towards Bakhmut, the enemy continues its offensive operations, but is losing its offensive potential. They keep trying to capture the city, suffering major casualties, and losing weapons and military equipment. Ukrainian defenders are repelling numerous round-the-clock attacks of the occupiers near  Orikhovo-Vasylivka, Hryhorivka, and towards Bakhmut. Among others, Vasiukivka, Minkivka, Orikhovo-Vasylivka, Hryhorivka, Bakhmut, Ivanivske, Stupochky, Predtechyne, Chasiv Yar, Kurdyumivka, Ozarianivka, and Pivnichne (Donetsk oblast) came under enemy fire.

Towards Avdiivka, Marinka, and Shakhtarsk, the enemy conducted offensive operations againnst Novobakhmutivka, Krasnohorivka, Avdiivka, Sieverne, Pervomaiske, Marinka, and Pobieda, but failed. The vicinities of Lastochkyne, Berdychi, Avdiivka, Tonenke, Heorhiivka, Nevelske, Krasnohorivka, Marinka, and Vuhledar (Donetsk oblast) came under enemy fire.

Towards Zaporizhzhia and Kherson, the enemy is defending. Settlements near the contact line were shelled, namely Novopil (Donetsk oblast), Olhivske, Malynivka, Chervone, Charivne, Huliaipole, Mala Tokmachka, Novodanylivka, Novoandriivka (Zaporizhzhia oblast), as well as Antonivka and the city of Kherson.

The russian federation does not give up its war of aggression, despite numerous casualties. There are actions taken to replenish its losses in manpower. For example, one of the military units stationed in Krasnodar Krai (russia) is actively working with its conscripts, forcing them to sign contracts. The servicemen who agree to sign the contracts are expected to be deployed to Ukraine in August 2023.

The Ukrainian Air Force launched 5 air strikes on buildups of the invaders, while Ukrainian rocket and artillery units hit an ammunition depot, 2 anti-aircraft missile systems, a radar station, and an important enemy target.
