War in Ukraine today: latest news, January 6, 2023 (photo)

It has been the 317th day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression.

What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 6pm:   

On January 6, the enemy launched one missile strike and 12 MLRS attacks, including on civilian infrastructure of Donetsk and Dnipropetrovsk oblasts.

There is still a threat of air and missile strikes across Ukraine. 

To maintain its offensive potential and replenish losses, the invaders continue mobilization.

The enemy focuses its main efforts on attempts to completely capture Donetsk oblast within its administrative border. The enemy conducts offensive operations towards Bakhmut and makes unsuccessful attempts to improve its tactical situation towards Kupiansk, Lyman, and Avdiivka. In other directions, the invaders are defending.

Towards Volyn and Polissia, there are no significant changes, the enemy maintains its military presence in border areas. There are no signs of forming offensive groups.

Towards Siversk and Sloboda, Mykolaivka (Chernihiv oblast), Strilecha, Krasne, Ambarne, Buhruvatka, Hatyshche, Zelene, and Odradne (Kharkiv oblast) were shelled.

Towards Kupiansk and Lyman, the enemy shelled the vicinities of 19 settlements, namely Dvorichna, Kupiansk, Kyslivka, Kotliarivka, Krokhmalne (Kharkiv oblast), Stelmakhivka, Makiivka, Ploshchanka, and Dibrova (Luhansk oblast).

Towards Bakhmut, the enemy shelled more than 15 settlements, namely Spirne, Berestove, Bilohorivka, Soledar, and Bakhmut (Donetsk oblast).

Towards Avdiivka, the enemy fired tanks, mortars, artillery and missile systems at the vicinities of Avdiivka, Vesele, Nevelske, Krasnohorivka, Heorhiivka, Marinka, and Novomykhailivka (Donetsk Oblast).

Towards Novopavlivka, Vremivka, Velyka Novosilka, Vuhledar, and Paraskoviivka (Donetsk oblast) were shelled.

Towards Zaporizhzhia, enemy fire damaged the vicinities of 16 settlements. Among them are Zelene Pole, Novopil (Donetsk oblast); Huliaipole, Zaliznychne, Charivne, Shcherbaky, Stepove (Zaporizhzhia oblast), and Nikopol (Dnipropetrovsk oblast).

Towards Kherson, civilian infrastructure of Chornobaivka, Beryslav, Zolota Balka, and Kherson was damaged by enemy artillery shelling. There are civilian casualties.

The enemy continues to suffer losses. It was confirmed that on January 5, 2023, a buildup of the russian occupation troops in Havrylivka Druha (Kherson oblast) was hit. According to recent reports, up to 100 wounded servicemen were brought to local hospitals. The death toll of the invaders is being finalized.

The Ukrainian Air Force struck a buildup of the russian occupying forces. The results of the strike are being verified.

Units of rocket troops and artillery of the Ukrainian Defense Forces hit 2 buildups of enemy manpower and military equipment.


Head of the Kherson RMA Yaroslav Yanushevych says that russia shelled a fire house in Kherson. This is already the second attack by the occupiers on fire houses of Kherson over the past two days. This is what a truce looks like for russia.

The press service of the Ministry of Digital Transformation reports that a new function has appeared on the Diia portal. Now it has become available to obtain an extract from the Unified State Register. This document confirms that the person had or has a business, and also contains information about activities of a company. This is necessary, for example, when signing contracts or receiving services in banks.

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

Kharkiv oblast

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the invaders cannot improve the situation towards Kupiansk. During the day the enemy shelled at least 17 settlements with mortars and artillery. At least 12 settlements of the region were under attack in the afternoon.

The invaders continue shelling the border settlements of Chuhuiv, Kharkiv and Kupiansk regions.

The enemy shelled Dvorichna, Kupiansk, Kyslivka, Ohirtseve, Vovchansk and other settlements with artillery and mortars.

In Kupiansk, a building of the civil industry was damaged. In Dvorichna, Kupiansk region, the lyceum was partially destroyed. There was a large-scale fire, which was extinguished within 3 hours.

According to the Regional Centre of Emergency Medical Care, a 75-year-old man was injured in Dvorichna. He was hospitalised in moderate condition.

Donetsk oblast

The National Resistance Centre reported that the invaders took more than 400 children from the temporarily occupied Horlivka to Rostov oblast to conduct pro-russian propaganda during the New Year holidays. Medical personnel, who actually control this crime, are involved in the children’s transportation.

Yesterday Avdiivka, Bakhmut, Illinivka, Kamianka, Karlivka, Krasnohorivka, Novoselivka, Ocheretyne, Ostrivske, Velyka Novoselivka and Novosilka were under russian attack.

Two residential buildings and a plant workshop were destroyed and damaged as a result of enemy shelling.

The day started with the enemy shelling in Kurakhove. Russians shelled the downtown and hit 2 apartment buildings and 1 private building. A department of the local hospital was also damaged. According to preliminary information, there was 1 injured person.

In the morning, Head of the Kramatorsk City Military Administration, Oleksandr Honcharenko, reported about russian shelling.  As a result of shelling 14 private buildings were damaged. There were no casualties. Head of the Kurakhove City Military Administration, Roman Padun, said that a hospital employee was injured as a result of shelling of the medical institution. Russian troops hit the infectious diseases department of the hospital, where 21 people were being treated. At the time of the shelling, there were more than 20 people in the department: patients and employees of the medical institution. The injured hospital worker is undergoing surgery.

Head of the Donetsk Regional Military Administration, Pavlo Kyrylenko, informed that yesterday russians killed one civilian in Bakhmut. One more person was injured.

Luhansk oblast

Yesterday, the Armed Forces of Ukraine repelled enemy attacks in Makiivka, Ploshchanka and Stelmakhivka. Towards Kupiansk, Kuzemivka, Novoselivske and Stelmakhivka were under attack. Towards Lyman, Dibrova, Kuzmine, Makiivka and Ploshchanka were targeted.

Based on the information provided by Head of the Luhansk Regional Military Administration, Serhii Haidai, there are preparations for work after the de-occupation of Sievierodonetsk – a restoration plan is being developed, material reserves accumulated, emergency teams formed, etc.  He also noted the success of the Armed Forces of Ukraine towards Kreminna and Svatove. Partially mobilised russians are practically demoralised because of the conditions in which they ended up. In addition, they are fighting alongside convicts from Wagner Group, who are constantly abusing them, and behind them are Kadyrovites, from whom you can expect anything.

According to the Luhansk Regional Military Administration, salaries for mobilised workers on the territory of the so-called “Luhansk People’s Republic” will be paid only until July. In Starobilsk, there are intensified checks of the population. Payment cards in banks in the occupied cities can be obtained only with a passport of the russian federation.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klytschko reported that the number of victims in the capital increased due to the terrorist shelling by russia on New Year’s Eve. A 40-year-old woman injured during the shelling and hospitalized in serious condition died. On December 29, air defense shot down all 16 russian missiles over Kyiv, but missile fragments fell in several areas, resulting in three people injured and hospitalized.

In the event of a power outage, 42 boiler houses of Kyivteploenergo can operate on generators. According to the Kyiv City State Administration, the capital plans to provide alternative power sources to all boiler houses that have sufficient capacity.

The first free gadget charging stands are already operating at Kyiv Central Station. In total, Ukrzaliznytsia received 100 such stands to be installed at the stations with the highest passenger flow. The assistance was provided by a group of Kazakh entrepreneurs Kusto Group, who actively support humanitarian projects in Ukraine. The stands were manufactured in record time in Turkey specifically for Ukrzaliznytsia.

Visit Ukraine has handed over a thousand tourist seats for passengers of the Kyiv subway. The seats will be provided upon request to people using the subway as a shelter during the air raid alerts. The subway reported that the seats can be taken at six stations: ” Zoloti Vorota”, “Druzhby Narodiv”, “Pecherska”, “Ploscha Lva Tolstoho”, “Teatralna” and “Polytechnic Institute”.

An ” invincibility town” was created in the Darynok Shopping Mall. More than 1000 places to have a rest and recharge gadgets were arranged at the mall. There are areas for children’s leisure, walking with pets, studying and teaching, baby rooms, and a first-aid post.

Christmas prayer service for the military was held in St. Michael’s Golden-Domed Cathedral in Kyiv. After the service in the church, the servicemen were awarded with medals and merit certificates from the clergy. Children greeted the military with a nativity scene and carols.

Zhytomyr oblast

Christmas services in the churches of Zhytomyr oblast will be held only during the day on January 7. For security reasons, no services open to the public are planned for the night of January 6-7. About 300 police officers will protect public order, patrols will operate in places of religious events and near religious buildings.

In Zhytomyr oblast, internally displaced persons can seek support from psychologists of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in the oblast. SES specialists provide free psychological assistance to children and adults.

Sumy oblast

Police officers in Sumy oblast received holiday gifts from volunteers. The gifts were prepared by the charitable organization Help.ua and the Chaplain Patrol NGO. Tourniquets, food, hygiene products and books were delivered by colleagues from Poltava. Local Invincibility Centres will also receive humanitarian aid.

In Trostyanets, generators are provided to structural departments and institutions. Currently, the Department of Culture, Tourism, Youth and Sports and the Financial Department have received two inverter generators donated by the Rotary Club Witten-Hohenstein and the Association of Ukrainians Wolja Witten Germany.

In Sumy, Miskvodokanal received modern sewage pumps. High-quality energy-saving Swedish units from Xylem Water Solutions were delivered by IH-PREM. The new pumps will replace outdated and power-intensive ones. The company also received a low-voltage motor to modernize the aeration system from Siemens Ukraine.

Pupils of the Sumy Regional Center for Social and Psychological Care received holiday greetings from law enforcement officers. Together with representatives of the Chaplain Patrol, the police delivered humanitarian aid from the charity organization Helpua.ch.

In Sumy, the lighting is now provided at pedestrian crossings. Sumy Mayor Oleksandr Lysenko reported that the light will be on from 17.00 to 21.00.

An ecological and patriotic campaign “Batteries for the Armed Forces of Ukraine” is held in Sumy by the Department of Education and Science and the Center for Ecological and Naturalistic Creativity of Students. Citizens are encouraged to bring regular batteries, those for electronic cigarettes, non-working laptop batteries to make power banks for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Mayor of Putyvl Kostyantyn Havrylchuk reported that military drills at the ranges are taking place in the Putyvl region. He warned that explosions may be heard on January 6 due to the drills.

The mayor of Bilopillya, Yuriy Zarko,says that  the border town of Bilopillya received a generator from France. The assistance was provided thanks to the Ukrainian-French initiative Light during Winter.

The Romny hospital received a powerful electric generator provided by the WOG gas station chain. The funds for the gift were donated by each gas station.

Chernihiv oblast

The Chernihiv border detachment reported that yesterday, russian invaders once again shelled the territory of the Semenivka community in Chernihiv oblast. Late in the evening, the territory near the village of Mykolaivka came under mortar fire three times: there were 6 explosions. They were fired from the russian settlement of Lomakivka.

The mayor of Nizhyn Oleksandr Kodola informed that the town of Nizhyn received two high-tech generators from Japan. The generators will be installed at the main city boiler houses.

In the village of Tupychiv of the Chernihiv region, the restoration of housing damaged by russian aggression has begun. The assistance is provided by volunteers and philanthropists: The Tupychiv village council signed a memorandum of cooperation with the International non-governmental organization ZOA.

The BKUM volunteer project – free Ukrainian language courses – has resumed its work in Chernihiv. The classes, which were launched more than 6 years ago by Candidate of Philological Sciences, University Lecturer Liudmyla Zinevych, were held for the first time after February 24, 2022 at the Intermezzo Cultural and Art Center in Chernihiv.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

 According to Head of the Regional Council Mykola Lukashuk, the enemy shelled the Nikopol region twice during the night. The Marhanets community was fired at from barrel artillery. There is destruction in the Chervonohryhorivka community due to the shelling: a farm building was destroyed. 3 private residential buildings, a gas pipeline and a power transmission line were damaged.

Vinnytsia oblast

Vinnytsia sent an ambulance and a GAZ-66 to the East of Ukraine to save the lives of soldiers of the 95th Brigade. The car is equipped with oxygen cylinders, a cardiac-monitor with a defibrillator and a ventilation system.

5K camouflage nets of various sizes were woven by the volunteers of the Vinnytsia VinSolard center. There are many orders from the military. So they weave even during the power outages.

In Vinnytsia, thanks to a tennis tournament among teachers, more than UAH 12K was collected for the Armed Forces. The funds will soon be spent on a night vision device for Vinnytsia fighters who are currently in Luhansk oblast.

Kirovohrad oblast

Alexandriia received 13 electric generators from the city of Bath in Great Britain, with which Alexandriia is establishing relations.

Viktoria Sushilina, a  17-year-old schoolgirl from Kropyvnytskyi, cut off her hair, which she had been growing since birth, to raise money for the Armed Forces. The girl earned UAH 6,560. 

Poltava oblast

According to Dmytro Lunin, Head of the Poltava Regional State Administration, Poltava Oblast received 528 folding beds from the International Committee of the Red Cross for internally displaced persons living in compact housing.

Cherkasy oblast

Students of the Multi-Profile Youth Center won prizes at the All-Ukrainian creative competition for children and school youth For our Freedom. More than 2,500 children’s works of fine art and poetry were presented.

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

The situation towards Zaporizhzhia has not undergone significant changes. The enemy concentrates its main efforts on holding the occupied borders. On January 5, the occupiers shelled the settlements of Dorozhnianka, Mala Tokmachka, Huliaipole, Orikhiv, Zaliznychne, Malynivka, Shcherbaky, Charivne, Primorske, Mali Shcherbaky, Plavni, Novoandriivka, Bilohiria, Olhivske, Novodanylivka, Poltavka, Stepove, and Kamianske. The police received 21 reports about the destruction of houses (apartments) and infrastructure objects as a result of shelling by russian military personnel.

Head of the Berdiansk city military administration, Victoria Halitsyna says that around 8:30 a.m., 11 explosions rang out in the temporarily occupied Berdiansk approximately close to the airfield. According to local residents, there was a large buildup of soldiers in that place.

5 modular shelters were installed in Zaporizhzhia to protect against the shock wave and ammunition fragments. Modular shelters are made of reinforced concrete with a thickness of 100 mm and designed for 15 people. The cost of one building is from 410 to 420 thousand hryvnias.

Mykolaiv oblast

On January 5, at 8:53 a.m. and 10:58 p.m., the enemy launched artillery strikes on the water area of the Ochakiv community. The day and night passed relatively calmly in Mykolaiv, Pervomaisk, Voznesensk and Bashtanka regions.

A batch of generators from the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland arrived in Mykolaiv oblast. The generators will be transferred to medical facilities, places of residence for IDPs, critical infrastructure facilities and Invincibility Centers.

 Iryna Ponomariova, Head of the Children’s Service of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration says that 21 children were left without parental care in Mykolaiv oblast as a result of the russian invasion, 11 of them received the status of orphans.

Odesa oblast

There is 1 enemy ship on combat duty in the Black Sea, and up to 2 enemy ships in the Sea of Azov. There are 9 enemy ships in the Mediterranean Sea, 5 of them are carriers of Kalibr cruise missiles with a total salvo of 72 missiles. According to the daily reports of the Naval Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the russian army did not send a single missile carrier on duty in the Black Sea during the week. The missile carrier with eight Kalibr missiles was last in the Black Sea on December 30.

Servicemen of the 59th Separate Motorized Infantry Brigade named after Yakiv Handziuk received powerful SUVs. Three powerful Mitsubishi L200 and two Nissan Navaras are now in the service of the Armed Forces.

Odesa oblast received humanitarian aid from the Pomeranian Voivodeship of the Republic of Poland – 10 generators and an ambulance. Generators were distributed among educational institutions, as well as throughout the city of Odesa to ensure the functioning Invincibility Centers. The ambulance was handed over to the Odesa Regional Center for Socially Significant Diseases.

Kherson oblast

The occupiers shelled the second fire house in Kherson in two days. There were at least 4 explosions. A house in the private sector was burning next to the fire house that was fired upon. One rescuer was killed, four others injured. One firefighter is in critical condition, three are in medium condition.

On January 5, the russian occupiers shelled the territory of Kherson oblast 58 times. The communities in Beryslav and Kherson regions were shelled by the enemy. 330 solar panels, 1 inverter and 2 transformers were damaged by the enemy shelling in the Kakhovka region. The fire house was damaged by shelling, the service station, 3 motor boats and a passenger steamer were destroyed in the coastal zone in Kherson. Apartments in high-rise buildings, private houses, and shops also were damaged in various areas of the city. As a result of russian attacks, 6 people were killed, and 4 injured. There is a 12-year-old boy among the killed citizens. Thus, the number of children from Kherson oblast suffered from russia’s armed aggression increased to 83.

Fish died en masse as a result of shelling by the russian military on Kherson and the Dnipro water area on January 2. Up to five dead fish weighing from seven to ten kilograms were found for every 10 square meters. Bighead carp died in the area of almost 2.5 km. Damages caused to the fishing industry of Ukraine amounted to approximately UAH 390.4 million.

The police opened 32 criminal proceedings on the facts of war crimes committed by the russian occupiers in Kherson oblast. The occupiers seized a chain of pharmacies in Nova Kakhovka. They took away all the property, changed the locks on the doors, and do not allow employees to work. The police are establishing the location of a 21-year-old man in the village of Novotroitsk, Henichesk region, and a 43-year-old resident of Kherson. Both were abducted by russian servicemen.

The russian occupiers are trying to ban the circulation of the Ukrainian hryvnia in Kakhovka, Kherson oblast. The General Staff reports that russian military personnel are conducting raids on trading points and threatening to seize not only cash, but also goods if Ukrainian money is found.

Road workers are constructing a temporary bypass near the destroyed bridge on the Pravdyne-Myroliubivka road. The bridge was destroyed by the russian occupiers, the passage of transport is impossible. Currently, 6 workers and 4 pieces of equipment are working on the restoration of the bridge. They are dismantling the destroyed bridge. A temporary detour will be arranged in its place. The works are planned to be completed by the end of January. 

Latest news for today in the western regions of Ukraine

Volyn oblast

A project is being launched in the Torchyn community, within which paintings with portraits of the Heroes of the same community who fell in the war will be created. As part of the project, the biography of the Defenders will be studied and reflected on the canvas.

Zakarpattia oblast

The Uzhhorod City Council reported that educational institutions in the city received generators from benefactors from the German city of Fiurt.

From Zakarpattia, the mountain assault troops from the 128th brigade were given vehicles for personnel transportation, evacuation and special operations. Aid was provided by Lithuanian partners Blue / Yellow for Ukraine.

The Coordination Council on IDPs in the Uzhhorod City Council will meet monthly. The first meeting has taken place. Participation of public organizations and the city council in grant programs from the EU was discussed.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

Over UAH 22 million has been allocated to help the military in 2022 under two regional programs. Namely, the regional targeted program of providing chief assistance to the military, military-patriotic education of youth and the program of providing mobilization training and defense work.

Ivano-Frankivsk officially became a candidate for establishing a partnership with the city of San Diego (the USA). An online meeting with representatives of the San Diego-Ivano-Frankivsk Sister City foundation was held. They discussed prospects for further cooperation between the two cities.

The RMA reported that the house, which was hit by a rocket on New Year’s Eve, was repaired, an energy-saving window installed and new furniture purchased for the family.

Lviv oblast

Lvivvodokanal received humanitarian aid from Norway in the amount of about 3 million kroner. Fritt Ukraina NGO brought several power units and 16 pallets of warm clothing to the enterprise, including 300 heaters and about 130 winter jackets.

The main medical institutions of Lviv oblast received four generators from the Czech Republic.

Dutchman Ksander Debur paid for rehabilitation and treatment of a 12-year-old girl who is now in Lviv. Katia from Mariupol was evacuated from the drama theater bombed by the russians.

The Lviv Regional Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support reported that the father of the fallen sniper, Stepan Habrus, originally from Lviv oblast, bought three cars for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

In the Lviv Historical Museum, the exhibition Black Farmland of Izoran… opened, dedicated to the events of russia’s war against Ukraine in 2022. There were almost 70 photos taken by photographers from Ukraine, Poland and Germany, depicting events, people, soldiers from different parts of Ukraine during the war, as well as military monuments from private collections.

Rivne oblast

In Rivne oblast, 36 churches were transferred from the UOC to the OCU. The communities of Sarny and Rivne dioceses renounced the moscow patriarchate.

In Rivne oblast, the first in the new year of the Regional Defense Council was conducted. It was decided to allocate funds from local budgets for the needs of defense and protection of settlements.

Rivne oblast received over 2K laptops for educators. They will be distributed among secondary and vocational schools, depending on the number of teachers.

In Rivne oblast, the staff of the Kysoryt Lyceum sent aid, namely, food, trench candles and children’s postcards, to the military. The institution previously held a charity carol. Over UAH 15K collected were donated to buy a thermal imager for the military.

Ternopil oblast

Since the war began, Ternopil oblast has received over 8K patients who arrived by special medical evacuation trains. There were over forty such trains. Civilian patients came from oblasts where active hostilities are taking place.

Mykhailo Dianov donated UAH 2 million for prosthetics to his military brother in the US. Soldier Roman Hryhorian came under cluster bombardment near Bakhmut, where he lost his arm and leg. Mykhailo Dianov is a Ternopil soldier released from captivity, for whom people collected money for an operation, but he decided to share the aid with his brothers.

Teachers of Ternopil oblast will receive 136 laptops. The aid came within the framework of the initiative of the Global Business Coalition for Education (GBC-Education) and the project Digital Asset for Ukraine of HP and Microsoft.

The RMA reported that in Ternopil oblast, almost 500K police officers will be on duty near the churches during Christmas holidays.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

The RMA reported that generators, Motorola radios, thermal blankets, gas cylinders, trench candles, etc. were sent to the military from Khmelnytskyi, serving in various units.

Khmelnytskyi Regional Hospital received a powerful generator from the Italian company Contrepair S.R.L.

Chernivtsi oblast

Chernivtsioblenergo reported that the permitted volume of load for Chernivtsi oblast from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. is 192 MW/h. Oblenergo drew up a schedule of hourly outages to prevent power outages of the life support facilities of the oblast.

The Sokyrian City Council reported that six main educational institutions in the region will receive aid, which is being implemented jointly with the International Children’s Emergency Fund under the United Nations (UNICEF).

Namely, 20 rocket launchers for pickup-based APWKS, 2 BREM and M1070 tractor, 7 remote-controlled tracked vehicles, 63 pickup trucks, 17 8×8 trucks and an ambulance, 12 heavy trucks with trailers, 21 generators and mobile heating systems, 8 reconnaissance vehicles were provided UAVs, 27 drone jammers, 30 UAV detection systems and 36 400 woollen blankets.

Comprehensive assistance to children from Ukraine was discussed.

The Prime Minister of Japan plans to visit France, Italy, Britain, Canada and the US from January 9 to 14. During the trip, meetings with the leaders of the countries are planned to discuss, first of all, the russian invasion, as well as new steps for military and humanitarian aid to Ukraine.

Head of the defense committee of the German Bundestag, Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann, stated the need to transfer Marder infantry fighting vehicles to Ukraine. Strack-Zimmermann noted that the Marder is in sufficient quantity in the warehouses of the Bundeswehr, as well as the ammunition for them.

Queen Margrethe II of Denmark has decided to step down as patron of the Hans Christian Andersen Award. The relevant decision of the queen is due to the fact that the head of the jury of the award was appointed the russian illustrator Anastasiia Arkhipova. The representatives of a number of countries are demanding that Arkhipova be suspended.

President of the US Biden reacted to putin’s Christmas truce initiative: “I don’t want to respond to what putin says. It’s interesting that he was ready to bomb hospitals, kindergartens and churches … on December 25 and on New Year’s Day … I think he’s trying to rest.”

The CES-2023 technology exhibition has started in the US. The russian federation was not allowed there, unlike companies from Ukraine. Gary Shapiro, chairman of the Consumer Technology Association, which hosts the event, said that “the russians are not happy here.”

The Army of Ukraine rose 7 positions in the Global Firepower rating. The army currently ranks 15th, down from 22nd at the start of 2022.
