It has been the 339th day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression. 

What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 6pm:   

The russian federation launched a missile strike on the civilian infrastructure of the city of Kostiantynivka in Donetsk oblast and carried out a total of more than 15 MLRS attacks. There are civilian casualties.

There remains a threat of enemy air and missile strikes throughout Ukraine.

Suffering great losses, the enemy is still continuing offensive operations towards Bakhmut, Avdiivka and Novopavlivka. Towards Kupiansk, Lyman, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson, the enemy is defending.

Towards Volyn, Polissia, Siversk and Sloboda, the situation did not change much, no offensive groups of the enemy were found. At the training grounds of the republic of belarus, military drills of units of the 6th motorized rifle division of the 3rd Army Corps of the russian federation continue.

Towards Siversk, the enemy shelled from mortars Hai, Khrynivka and Mykolaivka of Chernihiv oblast and Volfine, Muraveinia, Seredyno-Buda, Stara Huta, Rozhkovychi and Bachivsk in Sumy oblast.

Towards Sloboda, as a result of mortar and artillery shelling, the settlements of Huriv Kozachok, Krasne, Starytsia, Okhrymivka, Varvarivka, Novomlynsk, Dvorechna, Zapadne, Neskuchne, Ternova and Kupiansk of Kharkiv oblast suffered damage.

Towards Kupyansk, the enemy shelled the positions of our troops in Ivanivka, Kyslivka and Krokhmalne in Kharkiv oblast; Novoselivske, Luhansk oblast and Berestove in Donetsk oblast.

Towards Lyman, the enemy fired mortars and barreled artillery at Makiivka, Chervonopopivka and Dibrova in Luhansk oblast.

Towards Bakhmut, 18 settlements were hit by fire. Among them are Spirne, Verkhniokamianske, Rozdolivka, Bakhmut, Chasiv Yar, Klyshchiivka, Kurdiumivka and Maiorsk, Donetsk oblast.

Towards Avdiivka, Berdychi, Avdiivka, Vodiane, Nevelske, Vesele, Krasnohorivka, Marinka and Novomykhailivka came under enemy fire.

Towards Novopavlivka, Bohoiavlenka, Vuhledar and Zolota Nyva in Donetsk oblast were affected by fire.

Towards Zaporizhia, 15 settlements were shelled, namely Vremivka and Novopil of Donetsk oblast and Malynivka, Chervone, Huliaipole, Charivne, Orikhiv and Novodanylivka in Zaporizhia oblast.

Towards Kherson, artillery shelling was carried out in the areas of Mykhailivka, Havrylivka, Dudchany, Kachkarivka, Chervonyi Maiak, Kozatske, Tiahynka, Komyshany and Kherson.

The occupiers continue to exert moral, psychological and physical pressure on the local population. Employees of the Zaporizhzhia NPP who had not signed an employment contract with the occupiers were blocked from passing to the station, and the workers who had been forced to sign a contract were announced a reduction in wages, arguing that the station was not working.

The enemy continues to suffer losses. Only in the city hospital of Tokmak, Zaporizhzhia oblast, in recent days, up to 50 wounded occupiers have been brought. Most of them, after receiving formal assistance, are sent back to the front line. 

Aviation of the Defense Forces inflicted 4 strikes on buildups of the occupiers, and our units of rocket forces and artillery hit 2 control points, 2 air defense positions and 3 buildups of enemy manpower.

As reported by the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, 16 state contracts were concluded with Ukrainian UAV manufacturers. The Ministry will increase the purchases of UAVs in 2023. Taking into account the needs and demands of the Ukrainian army, in 2023 about UAH 20 billion should be allocated to this segment. It was noted that the Defense Ministry is deepening cooperation with Ukrainian developers and manufacturers of UAVs. Recently 16 state contracts have been concluded with domestic manufacturers of unmanned aerial vehicles. And thanks to the work carried out by the specialists of the Ministry of Defense, Ukraine has the simplest procedure in Europe for the admission of UAVs to operation in the army.

Mayor of Melitopol Ivan Fedorov announces that 800 russian police officers  were brought to Zaporizhzhia oblast. Thus, russia frightens the local population with regular “overseers of order” and tries to make them obedient.

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

Kharkiv oblast

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said that more than 30 settlements were shelled by the russian federation towards Sloboda.  Towards Kupiansk and Lyman, over 25 villages were under enemy fire. The invaders continue to defend themselves towards Kupiansk. Towards Sloboda, the situation remains unchanged.

Yesterday, the enemy continued to massively shell the border settlements of Kharkiv, Kupiansk and Chuhuiv regions of Kharkiv oblast. In particular, Kupiansk, Dvorichna, Staritsa, Berestove and other settlements were under fire.

In the village of Kindrashivka, Kupiansk region, shelling damaged the building of the lyceum. In the village of Hlyboke, Kharkiv region, a private house was damaged.

According to the Regional Center for Emergency Medical Care, a 49-year-old civilian man was injured in the village of Petropavlivka, Chuhuiv region. He was hospitalized in a state of moderate severity.

Humanitarian demining continues in the oblast. During the day, 64 explosive ordnance were neutralized.

Kupiansk the Python, rescued by the military from under a russian tank during the de-occupation of the city, may be Petrusha, who lived before the russian invasion in the local hotel and restaurant complex “Camelot”. The administrator recognized the reptile.

Donetsk oblast

Roman Padun, Head of the military administration says that In the morning, russian artillery shelled Kurakhove in Donetsk oblast. There are no killed or wounded. Multi-storey buildings, a hospital building and a transformer were damaged in the city.

Head of the Kostiantynivka RMA Oleksii Roslov reports that three civilians were killed and at least two wounded in a missile strike inflicted by the russian occupiers on the city. The russians fired at a residential area, damaged 4 high-rise buildings, a hotel, garages and civilian cars. Two men, aged 33 and 70, as well as a 36-year-old woman, were killed.

Towards Volnovakha, intensive shelling of Vuhledar continues: 9 houses were damaged. Prechystivka and Bohoiavlenka were under fire – without casualties.

Towards Donetsk, an outpatient clinic in Ocheretyne and a private house in Kurakhove were damaged. A private house in Krasnohorivka was destroyed. During the day there were isolated hits on the old and central parts of Avdiivka, and in the middle of the night there was a massive shelling. There was no information about the victims.

Towards Horlivka, the Soledar community was under fire: in Paraskoviivka there were 3 killed and 4 wounded, 8 houses were damaged; 9 houses were damaged in Vasiukivka. Another 2 people were wounded in Bakhmut; the administrative building and a private house were damaged. The day before, Chasiv Yar was hit: a dozen houses, a school, and an administrative building were damaged. There are damaged houses in Toretsk and Nelipivka.

Towards Lysychansk, the russians targeted a house in Lyman with an S-300. Constant shelling continues towards Siversk.

Head of the Donetsk RMA Pavlo Kyrylenko reports that russians killed 4 residents of Donetsk oblast: 3 in Paraskoviivka and 1 in Velyka Novosilka. Another 7 people in the oblast were injured. 

The Facebook page says that Mstislav Chernov’s documentary “20 Days in Mariupol” won the Audience Award at the American Sundance Independent Film Festival.

According to Petro Andriushchenko, Adviser to the Mayor of Mariupol, a helicopter base was set up in the russian-occupied Mariupol on the territory of Azovstal.

Luhansk oblast

Units of the Defense Forces of Ukraine repulsed the occupiers’ attacks near Bilohorivka. Towards Kupiansk, the enemy shelled Novoselivske, Stelmakhivka and Miasozharivka. Towards Lyman, Krasnopopivka, Makiivka, Nevske and Dibrova fell under fire influence.

According to the Luhansk RMA, to provide Lysychansk with water, the occupiers will drill 15 wells in the middle of the city. In the occupied territories they will ban medicines from local producers, only russian ones will be allowed to sell. Pensioners in the so-called ‘LPR’ will have to apply for pensions again.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

Artillery shells of the russian army found in the territory that was under temporary occupation were destroyed in Kyiv oblast. As Head of the police of Kyiv oblast, Andrii Nebytov, reported, artillery shells of 203 caliber were found in the Vyshhorod region, each of the shells weighs more than 100 kg.

Head of Kyivzelenbud Oleksii Korol announced that the forests around Kyiv, damaged by the invasion of the russian federation, will start to be restored in March. As a result of the hostilities, the forests are contaminated with ammunition and poisonous substances after their detonation, and the terrain is damaged after explosions and fires. Restoration will begin in demined territories. Thanks to explosive technicians, foresters of the capital already have access to 27K hectares out of 32K.

More than 3,500 people were trained on the basis of the training department of the Center for Emergency Medical Aid and Disaster Medicine in Kyiv last year. More than 2K of them are doctors. The rest are people of various professions who acquired skills in paramedical care under a specific program. In addition, the instructors of the Center conduct express trainings at metro stations, where about 7K citizens have mastered first aid techniques.

Owners of hotels, restaurants and other tourist establishments in Kyiv can receive financing to restore damaged facilities due to the military aggression of the russian federation. The Department of Tourism and Promotions of the KCSA reported that individuals and legal entities of all forms of ownership can receive compensation thanks to the fund for restoration of destroyed property and infrastructure.

The Volunteer Center of the Irpin Bible Church reported that volunteers make stoves that townspeople use for heating and cooking. About a hundred stoves have been distributed to residents of the city and the surrounding area and sent to the front line.

The Spanish charitable organization Juntos Por la Vida gave Irpin 100 field stoves. They will be distributed among houses in which there are problems with heat.

The photo-project exhibition Elements opened in the Obukhiv museum named after Domotenko. The project is dedicated to Kyiv actors who stayed in their city. Each of them fulfills the role that fate has determined in wartime: to be a volunteer, to go to war, to provide medical care, to work in the media space.

The first issue of the English-language Living the War magazine was released in Kyiv. The magazine documents life during the russian-Ukrainian war. It is dedicated to Kyiv and the russians’ attempt to capture the Ukrainian capital. The experience of the city is conveyed through the stories of its inhabitants. 

Zhytomyr oblast

Every day an average of 20 to 30 people turn to the regional Call Center for accommodation of temporarily evacuated persons in Zhytomyr oblast. As reported in the regional state administration, the main requests are to find temporary housing and receive humanitarian aid. In total, during the Call Center’s operation, more than eight thousand displaced people contacted the hotline.

In the Zhytomyr hospital, for the first time, a session of canister therapy – rehabilitation with the help of dogs – was held for military personnel. For the first class, volunteers of the True Ukrainians charitable foundation brought dog specialists, as well as five trained dogs to provide treatment and rehabilitation. As the organizer of the project, Olha Hryshchuk, reported, up to 30 patients participate in such sessions at their own request.

Seven hundred Ukrainian-language books for the Armed Forces were collected in Zhytomyr and sent to hospitals and the front lines. The organizers of the action were businessman Serhii Troianchuk and Nadiia Yablonska, lecturer at the Franko State University. The books were collected for four months. They were brought by everyone willing, as well as bought from Ukrainian publishers with their own funds and donations from those who cared.

Sumy oblast

The ‘North’ Operational Command reported that russian troops launched an airstrike in Sumy oblast. As a result, 10 private houses and other buildings were damaged. So far, there have been no casualties.

The Sumy RMA reported that the russian military probably carried out an airstrike in the city of Seredyno-Buda in Sumy oblast. The explosion destroyed a two-storey building, damaged a sports complex and a kindergarten, and smashed windows in private houses. According to preliminary information, there are no victims. Specialists of the State Emergency Service are working on the spot.

The Trostianets city hall reported that the city hospital received 4 modern ventilators from the WHO, the estimated cost of one device is UAH 130 K.

Head of the rehabilitation department for combatants Yulia Karpenko reported that the department resumed work. Neurologists and physiotherapists have resumed their work at the institution, as well as physical therapy, physiotherapy and hydrotherapy rooms for defenders, members of their families and families of fallen soldiers.

Chernihiv oblast

The ‘North’ Operational Command reported that russian troops shelled the border of Chernihiv oblast with mortars once again. There are no losses among personnel and equipment. There is no information about losses among the local population or damage to civil infrastructure.

The State Border Service of Ukraine reported that the enemy inflicted fire damage using mortars and self-propelled artillery. Semenivka, Novhorod-Siverskyi and Snovsk communities of Chernihiv oblast came under enemy fire.

Сommander of the Joint Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Lieutenant General Serhiш Naшev, presented official awards to military personnel who were wounded or injured in the service and are currently being treated. He also presented awards to medics treating military personnel.

It became possible to establish DNA profiles of relatives of those who went missing during the war at the Chernihiv Research Expert Forensic Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine. Previously, this could only be done in Kyiv, said Pavlo Mazur, a senior forensic expert in biological research and registration.

Chernihiv City Hospital No. 3 is rebuilding the radiology department destroyed by the russians in March 2022. The funds for this were transferred by United24. The Dynamo-Kyiv football club held charity matches in Europe to raise money for the hospital.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

Head of the Regional Council, Mykola Lukashuk, informs that two regions of Dnipropetrovsk oblast again came under enemy fire from heavy artillery. In the morning, the enemy hit the Pokrov territorial community in the Nikopol region: about ten shells flew there. In the afternoon, the russian army attacked the Velykomykhailivka community in the Synelnykove region. This was announced by the .

Vinnytsia oblast

The Vinnytsia RMA states that Kherson residents who found refuge in Vinnytsia oblast received assistance from the International Organization for Migration. In particular, 100 internally displaced families, i.e. more than 300 people, received hygiene products, detergents, dishes, bed linen, carriages, a battery flashlight and other household items. 

The Vinnytsia RMA provided Starlink satellite communication stations for the backup communication channel at Centres of Invincibility. The first batch from the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine has 45 terminals in 40 communities.

Kirovohrad oblast

The Oleksandria City Council reports that the community received humanitarian cargo from the French non-governmental international organization ACTED. These are three electric generators that have been transferred to places of compact residence of internally displaced persons.

Poltava oblast

Head of the Poltava Regional State Administration Dmytro Lunin reports that humanitarian aid from the International Organization for Migration arrived in the oblast. These are 24 generators of 9 kW each. The equipment is planned to be distributed among the places of compact residence of IDPs in the communities of the oblast.

Accordion player Oleh Lysenko purchased a reanimobile for a military medical institution in Poltava oblast. The man has been living in the Netherlands for more than 25 years, and arranged concerts there to raise money. He spent more than 30 thousand euros to buy the car, and transferred it to the medical center in the settlement where he was born and raised.

Cherkasy oblast

An evacuation train from Donetsk oblast arrived in Cherkasy oblast. Rescuers provided assistance to the internally displaced persons, including the elderly and families with children.

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

According to the Zaporizhzhia Military Administration,  the enemy fired on the Stepnohirsk community. In Huliaipole, russians hit a kindergarten. The village of Yurkivka was also under fire. The russian army used all types of weapons. There were no casualties. 

According to the acting mayor Anatolii Kurtev, the russian army launched another missile attack on Zaporizhzhia with Iskander missiles. A fire broke out on the territory of one of them. One person was wounded.

According to the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine, about 3.5K prisoners who were in prisons in Kherson and Zaporizhzhia oblasts at the time of the full-scale invasion were taken to Crimea. The Wagner mercenaries are urging them to join their terrorist organization. However, most of them refuse to sign a contract and because of their refusal, the russians have created unbearable conditions for them. 

Mykolaiv oblast

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, russian occupants fired 81 times from multiple rocket launchers, including at civilian objects in Ochakiv. As a result, residential buildings, outbuildings and garages were destroyed and damaged. There were no casualties. 

According to the head of Mykolaiv Military Administration, Vitalii Kim, the inspectors from the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Mykolaiv oblast visited children in a lyceum and several kindergartens in the Pervomayskyi district to conduct mine safety awareness sessions. During the event, the experts provided information about explosive devices, the danger they pose, and reminded how to act in case of their discovery.

Odesa oblast

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine 14 enemy ships were on combat duty in the Black Sea, including 2 Kalibr cruise missile carriers, with a total volley of about 12 missiles.

According to Head of the press center of the ‘South’ Operational Command, Natalia Humeniuk, despite the spread of information that russia is preparing a new offensive in the south in the spring, an enemy landing in Odesa oblast is impossible. The Black Sea coast is ready to counteract the landing operation: the enemy naval group, realizing the power of the AFU weapons, does not approach closer than 150-200 km. 

Kherson oblast

According to the Kherson Military Administration, on January 27 russian occupants fired 19 times on the territory of Kherson oblast. The enemy fired at peaceful towns and villages with artillery, multiple rocket launchers, and mortars. The russian army shelled Kherson 5 times, damaging residential buildings and medical facilities. 2 people were killed, and 7 residents of Kherson region injured. 

On January 28, the occupants fired on civilians in the town of Nova Kakhovka. The enemy hit several residential buildings.

According to the Kherson Military Administration, in the village of Blahodatne, Kherson oblast, local residents found a wounded man in a field. The man was wounded as a result of an enemy mine explosion. 

According to the Kherson Military Administration, Ukrzaliznytsia will form teams to help power engineers with restoration work. This was stated by Oleksandr Kamyshyn, Chairman of the Board of Ukrzaliznytsia. The official visited Posad-Pokrovskyi, where work is currently underway to restore power grids. 

Latest news for today in the western regions of Ukraine

Volyn oblast

The RMA reported that fighters of the 6th border detachment received two cars – Kia and Jeep – provided by benefactors.

The Novovolynsk hospital reported that the son of the fallen Hero Artem Filiuk was born in the maternity ward of the hospital. Military brothers from the 14th separate mechanized brigade named after Prince Roman the Great met the baby with his mother according to military traditions. Artem Filiuk was killed on November 12 as a result of enemy shelling near ​​Berestove settlement of Kharkiv oblast. He was 27.

Zakarpattia oblast

In the Uzhhorod City Council, there was a round table with representatives of the Slovak Republic dedicated to the issues of Ukrainian-Slovak cooperation. The Memorandum on cooperation between the city council and the Ukrainian-Slovak business agency was signed.

For the first time, wounded servicemen were transported by an evacuation bus to one of the Uzhgorod hospitals. They will undergo treatment and rehabilitation in Zakarpattia.

An exhibition of Slovak artist Peter Plavchan opened in Uzhhorod. The first exhibition of a foreigner in Uzhhorod is aimed at supporting Ukraine.

In Uzhhorod, an open charitable chess tournament Winter Uzhhorod started. All charitable contributions of the participants will be transferred to support the military.

Director of the Department of Education and Science, Youth and Sports of the RMA, Mariana Marusynets, reported that Zakarpattia sent over 5,6K books to Ukrainian children abroad.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

The Bell of Remembrance rang out in Prykarpattia for all the defenders of Ukraine who gave their lives in the fight for the state. In a joint prayer of the clergy, the military, veterans of the russian-Ukrainian war and relatives of the fallen Heroes, all the defenders of Ukraine who were killed in the struggle for independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine were honored.

Lviv oblast

Lvivvodokanal was visited by representatives of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). They discussed possibilities of cooperation within the WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) program.

The Youth Council at the Lviv RMA signed the Memorandum on cooperation with the Youth Councils of 24 territorial communities of the oblast. Cooperation envisages that the youth of these communities will be even more actively engaged in the public and political life of the oblast.

In the RMA a meeting with representatives of the International Organization for Migration of Psychosocial Support in Western Ukraine was held. They discussed current needs of IDPs and mechanisms for providing them with the necessary aid.

The city council of Lviv reported that the Unbroken center in Lviv launched children’s prosthetics. The son of a military man will receive the first prosthesis. The boy lost his arm while helping his mother with the housework.

In the Chervonohrad regional military administration a first meeting of the district working group on decommunization in the territory of Chervonohrad district was held. They discussed problematic issues regarding the implementation of measures to eliminate the remnants of the soviet past.

Rivne oblast

In 2022, as part of the Shelter project, 29 800 households in Rivne oblast accommodated IDPs in their homes and received paid UAH 26.7 million from the state.

In the RMA a meeting of heads of 64 communities of Rivne oblast was held to synchronize work on issues of strengthening defense capability of the oblast and the country as a whole.

Ternopil oblast

The Army Aid from Ternopil went to the military of Kharkiv, Donetsk and Sumy oblasts. Over 60 parcels were handed over to the defenders. The car was loaded with necessary things collected by the volunteers, namely, winter uniform, warm socks, Starlink platforms, a generator, spare parts for cars, etc. They also sent the first batch of individual first-aid kits.

The Mobile Dentistry went to Kharkiv, Donetsk and Sumy oblasts. For eight days, 4 medics from the Ternopil city dental polyclinic will treat the defenders.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

Mayor of Khmelnytskyi, Oleksandr Symchyshyn, spoke at the session of the city council of the partner city of Siauliai (Lithuania). Issues of supporting Khmelnytskyi were discussed.

In Khmelnytskyi, passengers of evacuation trains from Kherson, Pokrovsk, and Zaporizhzhia were given backpacks with humanitarian aid. In total, 60 people received help from the Red Cross.

Chernivtsi oblast

In the Chernivtsi city council, a meeting with the delegation of the EU Representation in Ukraine led by Chloe Allio, Head of the department of foreign aid programs “Economic cooperation, infrastructure, energy and environment” was held. Implementation of EU projects was discussed.

To protect critical infrastructure facilities, 6 Shahed Catchers have arrived in Ukraine. Now the training has been completed and the complexes installed. These are the most modern defense technologies applied to protecting strategic US facilities.

Belgium prepared the largest package of military aid for Ukraine for €92 million.

The website of the German government published a list of new aid that the country has given to Ukraine. It includes missiles for the IRIS-T air defense system, 13 trucks, two 15-tonnes forklifts, 16 semi-trailer trucks, 12 border guard vehicles and 2 pickup trucks.

The website of the German federal government published a list of aid that Ukraine will receive. It includes 14 Leopard 2 A 6 main battle tanks with ammunition, 2 Bergepanzer 3 armored repair and evacuation vehicles, 2 air surveillance radars, and 136 semi-trailers.

The Ministry of Defense of Spain reported that Leopard tanks from Spain will arrive in Ukraine in the spring.

The Ministry of Defense of the UK reported that the country is considering the possibility of increasing military aid to Ukraine in 2023.

Minister of Health of Latvia, Liga Mengelsone announced that in 2023 the country will provide medical aid to 120 wounded Ukrainian soldiers. In 2022, 130 wounded were transported to Latvia and provided with medical care at the Riga Eastern Clinical University Hospital and the Vaivari National Rehabilitation Center.

In the Lublin Voivodeship   446 million zlotys were collected from the budgets of various levels, counties, foundations and religious organizations of Poland for Ukrainians. The Polish region allocated funds to support IDPs.

The EU extended economic sanctions due to russia’s military aggression against Ukraine until July 31, 2023.

Inspectors have arrived in Kyiv to oversee the assistance provided by the US. US Ambassador Bridget Brink said that they arrived with a clear schedule of meetings and the goal of improving independent oversight of US assistance to Ukraine.
