It has been the 326th day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression. 

What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 6pm:   

The enemy carried out 8 attacks from multiple launch rocket systems. 

There remains a threat of the enemy’s air and missile strikes on critical infrastructure throughout Ukraine. 

The enemy does not abandon its intentions to completely seize Donetsk oblast. There are enemy offensive operations towards Bakhmut and Avdiivka to improve the tactical position towards Kupiansk and Lyman. Towards Novopavlivka, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson the enemy is defending itself.

No enemy offensive groups were found towards Volyn, Polissia, Siversk and Sloboda. Certain units of the Armed Forces of the republic of belarus and the russian federation continue to perform tasks in the border areas with Ukraine. At the same time, mortar and artillery shelling was carried out in the areas of Sopych, Vovkivka and Kindrativka of Sumy oblast and Starytsia, Huriv Kozachok, Budarka, Vovchansk, Strelecha, Ternova, Khatne and Topoli in Kharkiv oblast.

Towards Kupiansk and Lyman, the enemy shelled areas of more than 15 settlements, namely Dvorichna, Kotliarivka, Krokhmalne, Berestove and Vilshana of Kharkiv oblast, as well as Novoselivske, Stelmakhivka, Nevske, Kuzmyne and Chervonopivka in Luhansk oblast.

Towards Bakhmut, the positions of our troops in more than 20 settlements were shelled, namely Spirne, Krasna Hora, Klishchiivka, Ivano-Dariivka, Soledar, Bakhmut, Druzhba and Pivnichne of Donetsk oblast.

Towards Avdiivka, Heorhiivka, Vesele, Avdiivka, Marinka, Vodiane and Novomykhailivka in Donetsk oblast came under fire.

Towards Novopavlivka, Vuhledar, Prechystivka and Mykilski Dachi were shelled.

Towards Zaporozhzhia, the enemy inflicted fire damage on areas of more than 20 settlements, namely Mylove, Huliaipole, Dorozhnianka, Zaliznychne, Charivne, Mala Tokmachka, Stepove and Kachkarivka of Zaporizhzhia oblast.

Towards Kherson, more than 15 settlements, including Kherson and its suburbs, were shelled.

The enemy continues to suffer significant losses. Thus, due to the lack of beds in hospitals of Horlivka, Donetsk oblast, all the wounded from the front line are evacuated to Zhdanivka.

Aviation of the Defense Forces inflicted 7 strikes on buildups of the invaders, as well as 2 strikes on the positions of the enemy’s air defense. Rocket launchers and artillerymen hit 2 buildups of enemy manpower.


Head of the Dnipropetrovsk RMA Valentyn Reznichenko says that as a result of a russian missile hitting a high-rise building in Dnipro, the death toll increased to 29 people. So far, 73 wounded are known, 30 people are in hospital, 12 are seriously injured. The fate of more than 40 is unknown.

The press service of Ukrenergo informs that the deficit in the power system has increased. Restoration work is underway after the 12th missile strike of the russian federation. The enemy tried to aim at the units of thermal power plants. Due to the equipment damage, they stopped or reduced electricity generation, and the shortage in the power system increased. This forced to slightly reduce consumption limits proportionally for all regions.

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

Kharkiv oblast

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, at least 18 settlements were under russian attack. Critical infrastructure, a dormitory, an educational institution and an enterprise were damaged. There were no casualties. During the day, 13 settlements were shelled.

In Hontarivka village of the Starobilsk community, schoolchildren built a hut from improvised materials in the place where the Internet is best in the settlement: after the de-occupation, there are interruptions in communication in the village. This gives them the opportunity to study.

Yesterday the enemy launched a massive missile attack on Ukraine. In Kharkiv oblast, critical infrastructure facilities were hit, which caused emergency blackouts. By 1 am on January 15, thanks to the selfless work of power engineers, electricity supply was restored to most consumers. As of 8:30 am, 100% of residents in Kharkiv and the oblast, who were disconnected as a result of shelling, have been supplied with electricity.

The enemy continued shelling Chuhuiv, Kharkiv and Kupiansk regions. A school, infrastructure and industrial facilities were damaged in Vovchansk. An unexploited building and a civilian industrial facility were damaged in Hrushivka village of the Kupiansk region. There were no casualties.

In the Pervomaisk community, 22 toponyms were renamed, including four streets.

Donetsk oblast

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Russian troops continue to suffer losses on the battlefield. Hospitals in the temporarily occupied territory are overcrowded with wounded Russian servicemen. Due to the lack of beds in Horlivka hospitals, the injured Russian invaders are taken to Zhdanivka.

At night, Russians continued shooting at different parts of the front line.

Towards Volnovakha, Bohoiavlenka, Novoukrainka and Vuhledar were under attack – no casualties.

Towards Donetsk, 1 person was killed in Kurakhivka. On the territory of the community, 2 buildings in Kurakhivka, 2 in Kurakhove and 1 in Hostre were damaged. At night there were periodic attacks on the Marinka community and in the morning russians shelled Avdiivka twice with Grad MRLs, as well as Krasnohorivka and Vesele of the Ocheretyne community – no casualties.

Towards Horlivka, the situation is tense in the Soledar community – 1 building was destroyed in Paraskoviivka. A two-storey shop in Bakhmut completely burned down as a result of shelling.

Based on the information provided by head of the Donetsk Regional Military Administration, Pavlo Kyrylenko, yesterday russians killed 7 civilians: 4 in Avdiivka, 1 in Kurakhivka, 1 in Paraskoviivka and 1 on Stara Mykolaivka. Another 4 people were injured.

Luhansk oblast

Yesterday the Defence Forces of Ukraine repelled enemy attacks near Bilohorivka and Makiivka. Towards Kupiansk, russians attacked Novoselivske and Stelmakhivka. Towards Lyman, Chervonopopivka, Dibrova, Kreminna, Makiivka, Nevske and Ploshchanka were under enemy attack.

A resident was injured as a result of shelling in Nevske. He was hospitalised in the Kramatorsk city hospital with shrapnel wounds of the abdomen and left forearm.

Head of the Luhansk Regional Military Administration, Serhii Haidai, reported that the Armed Forces of Ukraine repel all russian attempts in Bilohorivka – there is no threat of breakthrough of our defense there. Ukrainian troops sometimes have to detect anti-personnel mines with the help of tanks – the enemy mined everything around in Luhansk oblast.

Referring to the Luhansk Regional Military Administration, 50 injured russian servicemen near Svatove were evacuated towards Starobilsk. There are only 10 tanks left in the enemy’s tank regiment towards Kupiansk. The invaders allow only those with local registration to enter Lysychansk.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

According to Head of the Kyiv RMA Oleksii Kuleba, 28 residential buildings in Kyiv oblast were damaged as a result of russian missile strikes on January 14. There were no casualties.

Kyiv was attacked by S-400 (S-300) anti-aircraft guided missiles from the north. According to the State Emergency Service, several sites were hit in Holosiivskyi and Dniprovskyi districts where the rescuers later eliminated the consequences of the fallen missile fragments. Overall, 24 rescuers and 6 units of equipment were involved.

Head of the KCMA Serhii Popko reported that thanks to the effective work of air defense forces in Kyiv, critical infrastructure facilities were not damaged by another attack. Emergency blackouts were introduced in the capital as a necessary step to avoid significant damage in case of direct hits to infrastructure facilities.

Shelters have been arranged in four more educational institutions in the Vasylkivka community to enable offline learning for children. According to the Kyiv RMA, as of January, 1,085 shelters were arranged in schools and kindergartens in the oblast.

The police of Kyiv oblast received modern mobile DNA testing laboratories from the Howard Buffett Foundation. With the help of two modern ANDE 6C devices, forensic specialists and investigators will be able to quickly carry out investigations, find DNA profiles and identify individuals within 60 minutes.

The State Emergency Service informs that in between air raids, children spend time at Invincibility Centers. In Vyshhorod, at one of the heating centers, local specialists of the Rescue Service are happy to spend time with young guests over interesting games and conversations. Thus, children are able to take their minds off anxiety and reduce the level of stress.

Zhytomyr oblast

According to the Zhytomyroblenerho power company, scheduled blackouts will be applied in the oblast. However, one cannot rule out the possibility of emergency blackouts due to russian missile attacks on the country’s energy facilities on January 14.

According to a report by the city housing department, about 100 residential buildings out of 400 damaged by russian occupants have been restored in Zhytomyr. Residents of 25 completely destroyed houses are waiting for compensation. During 2022, more than UAH 16 million from the reserve fund of the state budget was spent on the restoration of the facilities of the Zhytomyr territorial community, and nearly UAH 36 million worth of construction materials were purchased to repair damaged buildings.

Almost 300 new jobs will be created by Zhytomyr entrepreneurs thanks to the eRobota project. Within the “Own Business” microcredit program, 123 experienced entrepreneurs and newcomers who intended to start a business applied for and were approved for grants.

Sumy oblast

Dmytro Zhyvytskyi, Head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration, reported that yesterday, the enemy launched 63 strikes on the territory of Sumy oblast. Four communities of the oblast were under fire. There were casualties and destruction.

The russians applied mortar fire on the Shalyhine community. There were 14 incoming shells. The same amount of shells was launched at the territory of Khotin community. Later, the enemy opened artillery fire on the community resulting in 10 incoming shells near Kindrativka village. A 62-year-old local resident was injured as a result of shelling – the man did not have time to hide and received a shrapnel wound. Also, two houses were destroyed and two more significantly damaged.

10 enemy mortar rounds exploded in the Bilopillia community. Another 6 mortar rounds landed in the territory of the Esman region.

The State Emergency Service of Ukraine reported that dog handlers from Sumy oblast help rescue people after the russian missile strike on Dnipro city. 4 dog teams of the Interregional Rapid Response Center of the SES of Romny were engaged in search operations in the wreckage of a multi-storey building. Currently, it is known that 39 people have been rescued, including 6 children.

Konotop students make trench candles for our servicemen. Students of Konotop Lyceum together with their teachers started making candles needed by soldiers as a source of light and heating.

Volunteers in Hlukhiv raised money for a thermal imager for the soldiers who are now defending Soledar. People have donated more than UAH 120K to help defenders in less than a day. The money will be enough not only to buy a thermal imager, but also for other necessary things at the frontline.

Chernihiv oblast

According to Spokeswoman of the Chernihiv border detachment, Halyna Shekhovtsova, yesterday, the russians attacked the border areas of Chernihiv oblast again. Snovsk and Semenivka communities were under fire.

The enemy opened mortar fire on the territory of the Snovsk community. There were 13 explosions. The russians launched 30 shells (presumably from a grenade launcher) on the Semenivka community.

The delegation from the Republic of Latvia headed by Speaker of the Saeima of Latvia Edvards Smiltens visited Chernihiv oblast. First of all, Latvian officials visited the shelter due to a massive russian missile attack. The guests were able to see with their own eyes the consequences of the russian aggression in the villages of Ivanivka, Yahidne, and Kipti, in particular, visited the basement in Yahidne village, where the occupiers kept local residents. Also, the delegation visited the houses that were destroyed.

Chernihiv sapper Oleksandr Borysenko with the nickname ‘Kraken’ is undergoing treatment after an accident that happened to him while demining the territories of Kharkiv oblast. The story about a senior sapper of the EOD unit of the Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine Office in Chernihiv Oblast was announced on the page of the demining dog, Patron. After the publication, many people expressed support for the sapper who lost his leg due to the explosion.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

The search operation in Dnipro has been going on for more than 24 hours. More than 550 rescuers, police officers, doctors, public utilities, and volunteers are working around the clock. Firefighters have finally extinguished the fire that started in the house. They have already dismantled about half of the structures destroyed by the russian missile. In the afternoon, a 27-year-old woman was pulled out of the ruins. She is in intensive care with severe hypothermia. Doctors are fighting for her life. In total, 39 residents of the house have been rescued from the rubble so far. The fate of more than 40 people is unknown. The enemy missile killed 30 people. 73 are wounded, 30 of them are in hospital, 12 are seriously injured. 2 entrances from 9th to 2nd floors are destroyed; 72 apartments destroyed and more than 230 damaged.  About 3450 tons of destroyed structures and 39 damaged cars were removed. Psychologists are working with people. Volunteers are helping the victims with heating and food.  It is currently known that residents of 236 apartments (approximately more than 400 people) need possible resettlement.

According to Head of the Regional Council, Mykola Lukashuk, on January 15, at night, the enemy shelled the Nikopol region three times. They fired cannon artillery at the Chervonohryhorivka community. Power lines were hit in the Marhanets community. Because of this, the pumping station stopped working (9 settlements, about 60K consumers were left without water). The occupiers also struck Nikopol with cannon artillery.

According to Deputy Mayor of Dnipro Mykhailo Lysenko, about 45 percent of the debris has been removed from the site of the missile attack. Heavy equipment is almost never used in order not to harm people who may be under the debris. 

Vinnytsia oblast

According to Head of the Vinnytsia MRA Serhii Borzov, twelve trucks of humanitarian aid arrived for Invincibility Centres of Vinnytsia oblast from the International Organization for Migration. The oblast received 327 pallets of various cargoes weighing 98 tons. These are household hygiene kits, diapers and cleaning products. 

Kirovohrad oblast

Kirovohrad oblast received 10 generators with a capacity of 50, 100 and 20 kW from UNICEF. They will be placed at the booster pumping stations that pump water to the neighborhoods of the cities of the oblast. 

Cherkasy oblast

A charity event Malanka-Fest was held in Zvenyhorodka to raise funds for the needs of the Defence Forces of Ukraine. In total, UAH 37 K was collected to purchase a quadcopter.

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

The situation towards Zaporizhzhia did not undergo significant changes over the past day. The enemy concentrates its main efforts on holding the occupied positions.

On January 14, the occupiers shelled 18 settlements in Zaporizhzhia oblast: Zaporizhzhia, Huliaipole, Orikhiv, Zaliznychne, Novoandriivka, Novodanylivka, Charivne, Mala Tokmachka, Bilohiria, Olhivske, Preobrazhenka, Malynivka, Shcherbaky, Poltavka, Temyrivka, Novoselivka, Stepove, Kamianske. The police received 16 reports about the destruction of houses (apartments) and infrastructure objects as a result of shelling by russian military personnel.

On January 14, around 1:30 p.m., the temporarily occupied Polohy was shelled. Two shells hit a store and a transformer. Four people were killed, and five injured. According to Mayor Yurii Konovalenko, the shelling was from the occupied territories, probably from Ozherelne or Tarasivka.

Mayor of Vasylivka, Serhii Kaliman says that on January 14, the russians deported several residents of the temporarily occupied village of Skelky, the Vasylivka region. The data about these people are known, and their whereabouts and condition are currently being clarified. As of 14:00, there is no information about the deportees crossing the Ukrainian checkpoint.

Mykolaiv oblast

The Mykolaiv RMA informs that on January 14, three cruise missiles were shot down by air defense forces over Mykolaiv oblast during the massive missile attack on Ukrainian cities.

On January 14, the enemy attacked the Kutsurub community with artillery. Hits were outside the settlement. There were no damages or injuries. 

The russian troops have caused damage to the natural environment of Mykolaiv oblast in the amount of over UAH 66 billion since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Damages are calculated as of January 1, 2023. Water resources suffered the greatest damage — UAH 39.9 billion. The burning of forests, industrial enterprises, warehouses and energy infrastructure facilities due to shelling damage the atmosphere of Mykolaiv oblast (UAH 23 billion). Another UAH 3.1 billion was lost to the land resources of the region due to the hits of ammunition, their fragments, the ingress of oil products, oil and construction materials.

Odesa oblast

The enemy has increased the ship group in the Black Sea to 16 units, including 5 surface and 1 submarine missile carriers. The number of Kalibrs reached 44 units. According to the ‘South’ Operational Command, the probable number of missiles on enemy ships boards is about three dozen, taking into account the missiles launched the day before.

Kherson oblast

The russian occupiers again shelled the residential quarter of Kherson. According to preliminary information, two people were injured. Also, the russian forces shelled one of Kherson’s medical institutions. The building was damaged.

On January 14, russian invaders attacked Kherson oblast 76 times. The russians shelled Kherson 25 times. 2 people received injuries of varying degrees of severity.

On January 14, the russian military shelled the temporarily occupied Kakhovka. According to Mayor of Kakhovka, Vitalii Nemerets, as a result of the shelling, one woman was killed and four people injured. The city was shelled from the village of Malokakhovka, where the positions of the russian military are based.

The police opened 23 criminal proceedings on the facts of war crimes committed by the russian occupiers in Kherson oblast. In the temporarily occupied Henichesk region, russian military personnel seized an agricultural enterprise and appropriated all property: motor vehicles, tractors, combines, trailers, various machinery, agricultural products (barley, wheat, soybeans, sunflower). The owner estimated the damage at more than 82 million hryvnias. There are also reports of pressure on local entrepreneurs  by the russian military in the temporarily occupied territories.

People blew themselves up on a mine left by the russian occupiers near Velyka Oleksandrivka. Two men, 53 and 35 years old, were checking their fields and came across an enemy mine. Both died at the scene due to their injuries.

The humanitarian aid delivery to residents of Kherson oblast continues. In total, more than 5K residents of the liberated territories received help from international public organizations, philanthropists and volunteers.

The Ministry of Health has provided 10 modern ambulances for Kherson oblast. Six of them have already arrived in the oblast: 4 in Kherson and one each in the Beryslav and the Visokopillia communities. Insulin preparations from the Public Health Center have been delivered to the Kherson Regional Clinical Hospital.

Doctors from the KOLO charitable foundation consulted 105 patients, and an ophthalmologist examined 32 people in the village of Visokopillia. 101 consultations were provided in the village of Novomykolaivka. Also, yesterday, teams of the international organization Doctors Without Borders visited Svobodne, Mala Shesternia and Novohryhorivske. In total, medical workers examined 140 people.

Latest news for today in the western regions of Ukraine

Volyn oblast

A charity concert Carol from Children of the Heavenly Legion took place in Lutsk. The collected money will be used for the needs of the Armed Forces. The volunteer movement Patrons for a Soldier takes care of five hundred children whose parents were killed fighting for Ukraine. A total of 25 children took part in the joint caroling.

The Lutsk Zoo received a generator to provide heat to menagerie animals. A resident of the Austrian city of Graz, Alfred Walker, accidentally ordered 2 generators and instead of returning one of them to the supplier, gave it to the zoo.

Zakarpattia oblast

A charity event for local children, IDP children and orphans was held in Uzhhorod. About two dozen stars of Ukrainian show business came to join the All-Ukrainian public initiative Ambassador of Childhood. Among them are singers, dancers, and TV presenters. This is Ukraine’s largest charity festival contributing to social adaptation of children during the war. The key goal of the event is to detach children from negative impressions and psychologically help them adapt to new conditions.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

After hitting an energy facility of the oblast, a strong fire broke out, the area of ​​which was 200 square meters. A firefighting headquarters involving representatives of the facility and 4 operational stations was created on the spot. The fire was extinguished on January 15 after midnight. 28 units of equipment and 87 workers from the main department of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Ivano-Frankivsk oblast extinguished the fire.There are no casualties.

The Ukrenergo dispatcher provided the night limit for the oblast to be 182.6 MW. The daily limit is 262.89 MW. The power shutdown scheme is 3+/3- (power is supplied for three hours, and is off for 3 hours).

From Ivano-Frankivsk to the front line, humanitarian cargo was sent, namely, several SUVs and food, for soldiers.

Lviv oblast

During the massive missile attack, soldiers of the West Air Command managed to shoot down 1 missile in the oblast. Two missiles hit a critical infrastructure facility. The fire caused by the strike was extinguished. There are no victims. Only the schedule of hourly power outages is applied in Lviv oblast.

Over the last day, volunteers of medical and psychological assistance of Lviv oblast met 95 people from evacuation trains. Evacuees receive all necessary assistance.

A delegation led by Speaker of the Saeima of the Republic of Latvia Edwards Smiltens is in Lviv oblast. This is Mr. Smiltens’ first visit to Ukraine as Speaker of the Saeima of the Republic of Latvia. During the meeting in the RMA, they discussed deepening the cooperation between the Republic of Latvia and Lviv oblast.

Rivne oblast

According to Head of the Rivne RMA, Vitalii Koval, the region is preparing for the defense of settlements in Rivne oblast. All 229 kilometers of the frontline with belarus are being strengthened to prevent russian troops from penetrating deep into the oblast. Every day, local residents volunteer to dig anti-tank ditches, make fences and fortifications.

The German travel company Meso and More (the city of Kroppy) sent 9 buses, medicines and basic necessities to the oblast. This is not the first help from the German company. Rivne oblast sent the previous 5 buses to Dnipropetrovsk oblast.

Ternopil oblast

During the massive missile attack, soldiers of the West Air Command managed to shoot down 1 rocket on the territory of the oblast.

The executive committee of the city council allowed entrepreneurs to place generators for free on communally owned plots of land. 

In the e-Ternopil mobile application depicting facilities operating without electricity is being updated. Currently, 368 service and trade establishments are operating during the blackout period.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

During the massive missile attack, soldiers of the West Air Command managed to shoot down 1 rocket on the territory of the oblast.

The city council reported that a map of location of generators with boilers and stationary heating points, which will operate in the event of a lack of electricity, water, and heating for 24 hours or more was created in Khmelnytskyi.

Chernivtsi oblast

A museum commemorating the russian-Ukrainian war will be created on the basis of the Sokyriany Historical Museum. The key goal of the project is to show and forever remember the consequences of russia’s invasion of the territory of independent Ukraine in the 21st century.

The German government reported that Germany transferred a new batch of aid to Ukraine. Namely, 4 demining tanks, 4 mobile protected demining systems, 10 border guard vehicles, and 120 mobile heating systems. For security reasons, the federal government is withholding details about the methods of transportation and the dates until the transfer.

In the new package of military aid, in addition to 14 Challenger 2 tanks, Great Britain will transfer 30 self-propelled artillery installations of AS90 guns to Ukraine.

The German government plans to send 40 Marder BMPs with ammunition, Patriot air defense systems with ammunition and 100K first aid kits to Ukraine.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau condemned the russian attack on a residential high-rise in Dnipro on January 14 and called it “disgusting and unacceptable”. Trudeau also emphasized that Canada will continue to provide support to Ukraine.
