It has been the 323rd day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression. 

Breaking news

Slobodna Dalmacija reported that the President of Serbia declared that the ambassador of Ukraine in Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina Vasylkivska Kyrylychuk is not welcome in Serbia any more. 

Head of the Prime Minister’s Office Gergei Gulyas claimed that Hungary will not supply weapons to Ukraine and refuses to transport it through its territory.

Briefly on what happened in Ukraine today:

Here is the operational information of the General Staff as of 6pm: 

Russian troops launched 5 missile attacks targeting peaceful cities of Kostiantynivka, Kramatorsk, and Zaporizhzhia, as well as 12 air strikes. Russian military launched 4 MLRS attacks.

The territory of Ukraine is still under the threat of russian air and missile strikes. Russian army keeps focusing on attempting to capture Donetsk oblast within its administrative border, and continues to advance towards Bakhmut. The most fierce battle is raging in the vicinities of Soledar, Paraskoviivka, Bakhmut and Klischiivka.

Russian army is on the unsuccessful offensive operation towards Avdiivka, while towards Kupiansk and Lyman, russian soldiers are trying to improve their tactical situation. Towards Novopavlivka, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson, russian forces are on the defensive.

There are no significant changes towards Volyn, Polissia, Siversk, and Sloboda. No offensive russian groups were detected.

Towards Siversk and Sloboda, the vicinities of settlements of Senkivka, Karpovychi, Chernihiv oblast, Bachivsk, Sumy oblast, Strilecha, Zelene, Hatyshche, Vovchansk, Chuhunivka, and Ridkodub, Kharkiv oblast, were attacked.

Towards Kupiansk, the vicinities of Synkivka, Orlyanka, Kyslivka, Berestove, Ivanivka, Bohuslavka, Kharkiv oblast, and Stelmakhivka, Luhansk oblast, were shelled.

Towards Lyman, Hrekivka, Makiivka, Chervonopopivka, and Dibrova, Luhansk oblast, were shelled from russian tanks and artillery.

Towards Bakhmut, Spirne, Bilohorivka, Soledar, Krasna Hora, Pidhorodne, Bakhmut, Klishchiivka, Kurdyumivka, Druzhba, and Pivnichne, Donetsk oblast, were shelled.

Towards Avdiivka, the russian army fired at Krasnohorivka, Avdiivka, Mariinka, and Novomykhailivka, Donetsk oblast.

Towards Novopavlivka, Vuhledar, Prechystivka, and Zolota Nyva, Donetsk oblast, came under the fire of russian troops.

Towards Zaporizhzhia, russian soldiers shelled the vicinities of settlements of Vremivka, Vilne Pole, Donetsk oblast, Huliaipole, Chervone, Charivne, Mala Tokmachka, Orikhiv, and Kamyanske, Zaporizhzhia oblast.

Towards Kherson, the russian army is shelling settlements along the right bank of the Dnipro river. The suburbs and the city of Kherson came under mortar fire.

Russian troops are looting the local population on the temporarily occupied territory of Kherson oblast. In one of the settlements of Kakhovka district, russian occupying authorities announced an inventory check of movable and immovable property of local private entrepreneurs, followed by the so-called “nationalization”.

To replenish its casualties, the russian army is mobilizing the male population, including in the temporarily occupied territory of Luhansk oblast. Thus, the next mobilization wave started in the city of Alchevsk on January 09, 2023. 

The Ukrainian Air Force launched 15 air strikes on the buildup of russian troops, as well as 5 air strikes on the positions of its anti-aircraft missile systems.

In addition, Ukrainian forces shot down 1 russian Su-25 aircraft and 1 Orlan-10 UAV.

Ukrainian artillery and missile troops hit 3x command posts, 3x concentrations of russian troops and military equipment, 1 S-300 anti-aircraft missile system and 3 ammunition depots.


According to the Ministry of Reintegration of Occupied Territories, Ukraine managed to return bodies of 54 Ukrainian defenders from Olenivka. The International Committee of the Red Cross facilitated in complicated talks. The DNA expertise is currently underway. “The bodies of deceased heroes have to undergo a forensic medical examination. The investigator will notify the family of the deceased afterwards. The long DNA expertise is related to investigation of other aspects of the crime committed in Olenivka”, noted the representative of the Office of the Commissioner for Missing Persons Ivan Anhelin. 

The secretary of the Council of the National Security of Ukraine Oleksii Danilov advised that the upcoming two-three months will be vitally important and literally decisive in this battle. Ukraine and the russian aggressor are preparing for it.

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

Kharkiv oblast

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, at least 12 settlements, including Strilecha and Vovchansk, were shelled.

During the occupation of Izium, 60-year-old Volodymyr Sirin was tortured. The man fought in Afghanistan, lived in Izium for over 20 years, and created fairy-tale characters out of wood. Volodymyr’s body was found in an abandoned building on the river bank. In March, the building was hit, so people left it and came across the corpse by accident. After the de-occupation of Izium, the body was exhumed and sent to Kharkiv. Volodymyr Sirin was reburied in Izium.

Head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, Oleh Syniehubov, reported about another meeting with the UN Humanitarian Coordinator in Ukraine, Denise Brown. They discussed further cooperation with the UN in the restoration of Kharkiv oblast and humanitarian assistance to the population.

The Prosecutor’s Office informed that the invaders shelled a residential area of Kupiansk with mortars on January 12, a 76-year-old man was injured. Russian troops shelled Dvorichna, a 68-year-old man was injured.

Yesterday, the enemy continued shelling the border settlements of the region. The invaders attacked Huriv Kozachok, Novomlynsk, Ohirtseve, Starytsia, Strilecha, Vilcha and Vovchansk with mortars and artillery.

Towards Kupiansk, the enemy once again targeted Dvorichna, Kupiansk, Kyslivka, Tabaivka and other settlements. 

As a result of these attacks, private buildings, a trade pavilion and outbuildings were damaged. Enemy shells also hit one of the enterprises in Vovchansk. There were no casualties.

Donetsk oblast

The Ministry of Reintegration stated in the report that DNA examination of 54 bodies of killed prisoners of war returned by the invaders through the International Committee of the Red Cross from the colony in Olenivka continues.

Referring to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Ukrainian troops eliminated over a hundred russian soldiers, two machine guns and two mortar units near Soledar.

Deputy Minister of Defence, Hanna Maliar, reported that russian troops continue its offensive in Soledar and are trying to surround Bakhmut. Ukrainian troops are holding their positions.

Head of Avdiivka City Military Administration, Vitalii Barabash, informed about the morning shelling. There were no casualties. Yesterday the city was shelled about 16 times. 

Head of the Kostiantynivka City Military Administration, Oleksii Roslov, told in a comment to Suspilne about the afternoon attack. The invaders hit the industrial zone. There were no casualties as a result of the shelling.

Yesterday, russian troops shelled Vuhledar and damaged six buildings. Also, the outskirts of Avdiivka, Bohoiavlenka, Marinka, Novoukrainka, Siversk and the outskirts of Ocheretyne community, Bakhmut, Berestok, Chasiv Yar, Illinivka, Kurakhove, Lyman, Novobakhmutivka, Paraskoviivka and Velyka Novosilka were under attack. Russians attacked with aircraft, S-300 missiles, Grad, Smerch MRLs, artillery, tanks and mortars.

The shelling continued along the entire frontline at night and in the morning.

Towards Volnovakha, russians shelled Vuhledar, damaging 6 buildings. The outskirts of Bohoiavlenka and Novoukrainka were also under attack. There were no casualties.

Towards Donetsk, Kurakhove community was targeted. In Kurakhove, russians hit the administrative building, 3 apartment buildings and the territory of the enterprise. In Kurakhivka, a two-story building and a private building were damaged. In the morning there was a new shelling of Kurakhove. Its aftermath is yet to be established. Moreover, Avdiivka, Marinka and the outskirts of Ocheretyne community were attacked at night.

Towards Horlivka, 1 person was killed in Paraskoviivka of Soledar community. Intense shelling continues in Soledar. Yesterday afternoon Kostiantynivka community was under enemy fire. The road was damaged, without casualties.

Towards Lysychansk, 3 buildings were destroyed in Lyman and there was shelling of Siversk. There were no casualties.

Head of the Donetsk Regional Military Administration, Pavlo Kyrylenko, said that yesterday russians killed 1 civilian in Paraskoviivka.

Luhansk oblast

The Armed Forces of Ukraine repelled enemy attacks near Kreminna and Stelmakhivka yesterday. Towards Kupiansk, the enemy attacked Stelmakhivka. Towards Lyman, Chervonopopivka, Dibrova, Kreminna, Kuzmyne, Makiivka, Nevske and Ploshchanka were targeted.

Spokesman of the Eastern Group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Serhii Cherevatyi, reported that near Kreminna and  Stelmakhivka, russian troops continue to conduct counter-offensive actions. He noted that during hostilities  russians irrevocably lost 69 people, 92 more were injured and several units of enemy equipment destroyed.

In Bilohorivka, the Defence Forces of Ukraine have improved their positions and do not allow russians to advance. Despite the danger, 144 people still remain in Nevske and refuse to evacuate.

According to the Luhansk Regional Military Administration, in Markivka, additional 100 beds have been established for the injured invaders, while residents of the captured cities and villages are being forced to delete Ukrainian banking applications from their phones.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

CEO YASNO Serhii Kovalenko announced that due to the state of the networks, Kyiv is provided with 60% of the necessary amount of generation, 40% of it goes to critical infrastructure facilities, the rest is distributed among consumers. The lack of generation is now being tried to be balanced with the help of hydroelectric power stations, but they cannot operate 24/7, so outages have become more frequent at night as well.

The SSU detained a russian agent scouting the locations of the Armed Forces. The detainee under the pseudonym “Tien” collected and transmitted through an anonymous telegram channel information about command headquarters, warehouses with artillery weapons of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and coordinates of critical infrastructure facilities. A russian passport and pro-kremlin symbols were found in the man’s possession. The SSU informed him of the suspicion of treason committed under martial law.

The mayor of the capital Vitalii Klychko thanked the mayors of four European capitals, members of the Pact of Free Cities, who came to Kyiv on December 11 to confirm their support and further assistance to the Ukrainian capital. These are the mayors of Warsaw Rafal Tszaskowski, Prague Zdenek Hryb, Budapest Hergeli Karaczon and Bratislava Matusz Wallo. During their visit to Ukraine, they inspected the sites of russian attacks on civilian facilities in the capital, visited the city’s clinical hospital of war veterans, a rehabilitation center for children with disabilities, and one of the capital’s heating stations. They also visited Bucha, mutilated by russian barbarians.

The head of Kyiv RMA Oleksiy Kuleba said that 76% of educational institutions in the Fastiv region are equipped with shelters. These are 27 kindergartens and 53 schools. 12 institutions use shelter facilities of other institutions located nearby. Most shelters are equipped with heat and internet, food supplies, fully furnished and have restrooms.

The Kyiv Regional Military Administration reported that there are 60 invincibility centers in Bila Tserkva region. They are located in cultural centers, local government buildings, educational institutions, and all are equipped with generators.

The OCU reported that the Kyiv Metro will participate in the reconstruction of the church in the village of Lukianivka in Brovary region. The decision was made during a meeting of the Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Metropolitan Epiphany, with representatives of Brovary. They discussed the restoration of facilities destroyed by the russian military during a full-scale invasion.

Bucha Mayor Anatoliy Fedoruk said that the roofs of all buildings along Energetykiv Street have been replaced. 20 apartment buildings now have new floors and insulated attics. Some high-rise buildings were damaged by russian shells during the full-scale invasion, others had planned reconstruction.

The Kyiv RMA reported that Warsaw Mayor Rafal Tszaskowski and Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klychko signed a letter on cooperation between the cities’ metro lines. The Polish capital will hand over 60 metro cars to Kyiv.

Zhytomyr oblast

Zhytomyroblenergo reported that emergency power outages are in effect. Schedules are not in place In Zhytomyr oblast. This is a forced step related to exceeding the electricity consumption limit provided by Ukrenergo for the oblast.

About 400 people applied for help to the Regional Coordinating Center for Support and Accompanying Relatives. The center opened in Zhytomyr two months ago to provide assistance to people whose relatives have gone missing.

The hospital in the city of Zviagel received an alternative source of energy. A solar power plant was installed there, which will guarantee the medical facility’s energy security, as well as help save money on utility bills every year. Head doctor of the Novograd-Volyn Territorial Medical Association Vasyl Borys said that this solar power plant is capable to power11 ventilators, under which patients in the intensive care unit are fighting for their lives.

Horschyk community collected funds to purchase a thermal imager, which is already helping the defenders of Ukraine at the front. All residents of the community joined in collecting funds for a device for their compatriot in the military. In addition, goodies, warm socks and trench candles were given to the defenders.

Sumy oblast

The head of the Sumy RMA Dmytro Zhivytskyi announced that the russian army struck two communities in Sumy oblast. Shalyhine community was shelled by the occupiers with artillery weapons. 4 hits were counted. Three mines were released on the territory of the Esman community.

The “North” OC reported that the russian military attacked the Sumy border again. This time the enemy shelled the territory of the village of Porokhon in the Seredina-Buda community.

Sumyoblenergo informed that from January 13, the schedule of power outages in Sumy oblast will change: now it will be supplied in the mode of +4/-2 at night, from 00:00 to 08:00, and -4/+2 during the day.

The Sumy City Council reported that a memorial complex will be created in Sumy at the Baranivske cemetery in honor of fallen defenders. At the first meeting on the new project, ways of its implementation were discussed.

Semenivka and Dobrianka communities received sets of medicines from benefactors. Each gift, in addition to a special medical backpack, contains about 80 items: medicines, materials for applying sutures and bandages, solutions. Help came from Great Britain, and was provided by the charitable foundation “Mercy and Health” and Mail Force from the Daily Mail.

The Sumy RMA reported that Sumy received two new powerful generators thanks to international support. In total, the oblast received 127 units of various capacities as aid during 2022. Another 158 generators were received by the communities of Sumy oblast from international partners through direct interaction.

The social service center was set up in Yampil with the help of benefactors. The purchase of furniture and equipment was financially supported by the German Society for International Cooperation as part of the project “Support and development of the capacity of social and medical institutions in partner communities, taking into account gender aspects”, which in turn is part of the “Unity for the Future” project.

184K hryvnias were allocated in the Sumy City Hall for tactical medicine. Using this money, specialized simulators were purchased, which received city courses of tactical medicine. More than 80 members of volunteer formations in the Sumy oblast have already attended the courses.

Chernihiv oblast

The “North” OC reported the enemy shelled two settlements on the border of Chernihiv oblast.

First, the occupiers shelled 7 times from mortars at the village of Senkivka in the Horodnia community. Later, the russian military hit the territory of the village of Karpovichi, Semenivka community – 12 mortar hits were recorded.

Ukrzaliznytsia reported that a train to the border town of Semenivka will run again. Due to military actions, the city of Semenivka in Chernihiv oblast lost its railway connection with other settlements – now it has been restored. As the mayor of Semenivka Serhiy Dydenko noted, the connection will be restored with Novhorod-Siverskyi.

Chernihiv school got new windows and is setting up a bomb shelter thanks to benefactors from Belgium. Belgian priest Karel Stautemas and scouts from Grimbergen help to create safe conditions for the educational institution. Previously, this scout organization had already helped Chernihiv. They provided 10,000 euros to restore windows in another school in the city, took part in the purchase of equipment for the Chernihiv maternity hospital, and sent 4 ambulances to the front.

Rescuers opened a “Safety Class” on the basis of one of the city’s educational institutions in Chernihiv. The schoolchildren were reminded on emergency services and their phone numbers, the rules for handling electrical appliances were explained. They were told about the main types of explosives and how to work with them. Schoolchildren had the opportunity to put out a simulated fire and try on the work equipment of rescuers. At the end of the class, the children received gifts from the United Nations Children’s Fund.

The Koryukiv City Council reported that the community received cars from Germany. One of the cars is an ambulance for the central district hospital.

The Emergency Department of the Chernihiv oblast reported that rescuers of the oblast received 30 Garret ACE 250 metal detectors. Help was provided by the Acted international organization from France.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

According to Head of the regional council Mykola Lukashuk, the enemy shelled the Marhanets community in Nikopol region at night. As a result of shelling, 4 residential buildings and 1 farm building were damaged.

Head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional State Administration, Valentyn Reznichenko, reported that Dnipropetrovsk oblast received three powerful diesel generators from the Government of the Czech Republic. One is 830 kW and two are 550 kW. They were transferred to Kryvyi Rih and Kamianske. They will power water supply pumps in case of a power outage.

Vinnytsia Oblast

“Dream won’t be demolished” performance will be staged by the actors of the Vinnytsia Chamber Theater in liberated Balaklia in Kharkiv oblast. They will go together with the volunteers of the “Shakhina ” center who invited the actors to join the trip. In addition to the performance, humanitarian goods and personal gifts for children are brought to the residents of de-occupied territories.

Kirovohrad oblast

One hundred houses for internally displaced persons were built in Dmytrivska community of Kropyvnytskyi district. Everything required for living was collected by the locals. These are bedding, carpets, dishes, household appliances, furniture.

The Point company collected UAH 129,000 in three and a half weeks. Using these funds they purchased and handed over a Mavic 3 Fly More Combo drone and a charging station to the 21st brigade from Kirovohrad oblast.

Poltava oblast

In the communities of Poltava oblast, food kits for internally displaced persons continue to be formed and distributed. The packages contain canned food, pasta, condensed milk, sugar, oil and cookies. About 800 sets have already been distributed. In addition, the International Committee of the Red Cross distributed IDPs hygiene products and other stuff in Lohvytsia community.

Cherkasy oblast

Doctors from five regions, including Cherkasy region, will have training in Poland. The course includes training in aeromedical evacuation. Medics will learn to provide assistance to military personnel and civilians with severe thermal injuries.

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

According to the Main Police Department in Zaporizhzhia region, over January 11, the occupiers shelled civilian infrastructure near the settlements of Zaporizhzhia, Bilohiria, Olhivske, Huliaipilske, Huliaipole, Novoyakivlivka, Charivne, Preobrazhenka, Mala Tokmachka, Kamianske, Stepove, Orikhiv, Zaliznychne, Novoandriivka, Dorozhnyanka, Malynivka, Novodanilivka, Lukianivska, Mali Scherbaky. There were 25 reports about the destruction of houses (apartments) of citizens and infrastructure objects as a result of russian shelling.

Today, on January 12, as a result of the night missile attack in one of the districts of Zaporizhzhia, private houses and infrastructure facilities were damaged. The scope of damage is being established. All emergency services are working at the scene.

According to the head of Zaporizhzhia NPP Oleksandr Starukh, as a result of a russian missile strike on Huliaipole, residential houses and outbuildings were burned. A 73 year-old woman was killed. 2 people were injured. 

According to the National Resistance Center, Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant workers refuse to cooperate with the occupiers, so the russians bring their power engineers to Enerhodar and settle them in the apartments of local residents. 

Mykolaiv oblast

According to  the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, on January 11, around 16:00, enemy shelling was recorded towards Ochakiv community. At 18:00 the enemy struck in the direction of Kutsurub community. There were no casualties. Preliminary, no destructions. In Mykolaiv city, Pervomaisky, Voznesensky and Bashtansky districts the day and night were relatively calm.

According to the head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration Vitaliy Kim, on Thursday, January 12, another 1125 square meters of metal profile and 1125 square meters of hydraulic barrier were sent from the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration to Ochakiv. The Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration continues to collect applications from the city for required materials to restore the damaged buildings.

Odesa oblast

According to the spokesman of the Odesa Regional Military Administration Serhiy Bratchuk, in Odesa region, russian occupation troops continue to conduct aerial reconnaissance, involving unmanned aerial vehicles of operational and tactical level. Thus, at night on January 11, the forces and means of the Air Defense Command “South” another russian drone over the Black Sea on the approach to Odesa region was  eliminated. 

Odesa photographer Yevhen Samuchenko won the international photo contest from HIPA in the United Arab Emirates. It is noted that a month before the start of the war, Yevhen Samuchenko photographed the Dnipro near Stanislav, Kherson region. One of the photos depicting the ice near the river bank and water flows, the photographer sent to a photo exhibition in the UAE, as a result of which he received a gold medal. With their achievements talented Ukrainians remind the world about the war in Ukraine. 

Kherson oblast

According to the head of the regional military administration Yaroslav Yanushevych, on January 11, the occupiers shelled Kherson region 90 times with artillery, multiple rocket launchers, mortars and tanks. Due to russian shelling, a person was killed, five people received injuries of various severity.  

According to Yaroslav Yanushevych, head of Kherson Regional Military Administration, on January 12, russian invaders shelled the village of Yantarnoye near Kherson. The enemy shell hit a residential building. A man was killed and a woman wounded.

According to the Kherson Regional Military Administration, volunteer doctors of the Ukrainian-Israeli mission FRIDA-Ukraine will come to Kherson to help treat military and civilians.

According to the DTEK, the Tryfonivska Solar Power Plant, liberated from the occupiers, is gradually resuming electricity production, including to meet the needs of surrounding settlements of Kherson region. Tryfonivska Solar Power Plant was systematically attacked with cluster shells. Currently, 48 inverters out of 185 are switched on at the station, and it operates at 15% of its installed capacity.

Latest news for today in the western regions of Ukraine

Volyn oblast

The Ministry of Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine sent mattresses, blankets, sets of bed linen, pillows, etc. to Volyn. The aid will be sent to the needs of IDPs in social institutions and distributed among regional Invincibility Centers for the convenience of people deciding to use the Centers’ services.

Zakarpattia oblast

In the RMA, a meeting with Eduard Buras, adviser to the prime minister of the Slovak Republic on cross-border cooperation, was held. They discussed charitable aid to improve housing conditions for orphans and IDPs living in Zakarpattia.

Children from IDP families in Uzhhorod receive sets of winter clothing provided by the Ministry of Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine together with UNICEF.

The RMA reported that Zakarpattia received over 300 heat guns to ensure rapid heating in Invincibility Centers throughout the oblast from the US.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

From Ukrenergo, the night limit from midnight to 07:00, which is 228.81 MW, and the daytime limit of 295.49 MW for the daytime period from 07:00 to midnight have been proven for the oblast.

In the Ivano-Frankivsk City Council a meeting with a foreign delegation led by Canada’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Ukraine Larisa Galadze was convened to discuss support to the city.

Lviv oblast

As part of the artistic and volunteer project Children for Victory, a charity concert called Christmas Story was held in Lviv, to which military personnel were invited. This project was initiated by students of the art center Island of Childhood. Almost 30K UAH collected will be used for a car to rescue soldiers wounded on the front line.

Rivne oblast

Rivne oblast continues to prepare for the defense of settlements. Engineering and fortification structures are being actively built in the north. Residents of the communities of Varasha and Sarny districts have united and are helping to dig trenches for the military. Over 150 volunteers came one day alone.

A Christmas patriotic play Light of Love was organized for the children of fallen heroes and soldiers. The Vinnytsia Puppet Theater of the Mission Pledge of Peace prepared a festive event for young spectators. Festive gifts were also given to all present.

Ternopil oblast

The number of Invincibility Centers has increased in Ternopil oblast. There are 135 locations in the oblast where citizens can get the necessary help in case of a long-term power outage.

Volunteers from France brought about 6 tonnes of cargo with humanitarian aid, namely basic necessities, hygiene products, food, medical equipment and medicines, protective clothing, electric generators, etc, for the rescuers of Ternopil oblast.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

Chernivtsi oblast

An evacuation train from Donetsk oblast has arrived in Bukovyna. They brought 13 seriously ill people and persons with disabilities from the East. These are Ukrainians from Kramatorsk and Sloviansk. Medics and employees of the Chernivtsi RMA met them at the station. 

In Chernivtsi, in February security will work in all schools, gymnasiums and lyceums. Training is currently underway. All guards are professional policemen.

International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)

Canadian Defense Minister Anita Anand said that NASAMS air defense systems, which Canada will purchase from the US and send to Ukraine free of charge, will cost over $300 million.

Ukroboronprom reported that Ukraine has started its own production of 82-mm fragmentation mines at the facilities of one of the NATO countries.

The Ministry of Infrastructure reported that ten bridges arrived in Ukraine from Norway, which will be installed in the liberated territories.

The Ministry of Energy reported that on January 1, the import of electricity to Ukraine from Europe began. Agreed commercial flows between EU countries and Ukraine in the amount of 0.7 GW at night and 0.6 GW during the day. These volumes are not enough to fully cover the capacity deficit, but the involvement of imports significantly reduces the imbalance scope.

The ambassador of Ukraine in Ankara reported that the Global Peace Summit will be held on February 24 in New York.

Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets met with President of the Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan. They discussed the release of Ukrainian military prisoners and illegally deported civilian population.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a phone conversation with President of Cyprus, Nikos Anastasiadis. They discussed current security challenges.

The US and Japan jointly declared their support of Ukraine and condemned the actions of the russian federation.

Secretary General of the Alliance, Jens Stoltenberg, announced that NATO should provide Ukraine with modern weapons as soon as possible.

President of Slovakia Zuzana Chaputova allowed seven more Slovaks to join the Armed Forces. Information about these people is not disclosed for security reasons.

Head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania calls for the provision of ATACMS ballistic missiles to Ukraine. “Ukraine more than deserves our support and respect. It’s time to send ATACMS and release the Leopard,” Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielus Landsbergis tweeted.

Executive Vice President of the European Commission, Frans Timmermans, stated that russia should pay reparations to Ukraine for the ecocide.

The Senate of the Czech Republic approved an amendment to the law on Ukrainian refugees, known as lex Ukraine, to extend the regime of temporary protection for them for one year (until the end of March 2024). The changes will enter into force after being signed by the President.

Russian illustrator Arkhipova resigned from the position of chairwoman of the jury of the Hans Christian Andersen International Literary Prize due to protests from a number of countries. Arkhipova resigned due to “the reaction of the world”.
