It has been the 370th day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression. 

What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 6 pm:   

The russian federation focuses its main efforts on conducting offensive actions towards Kupiansk, Lyman, Bakhmut, Avdiivka and Shakhtarsk. 

The enemy continues to violate the international humanitarian laws by launching artillery attacks at civilian targets and homes, and attempts to destroy the critical infrastructure of Ukraine. 

The enemy launched 1 missile, 2 airstrikes, 20 MLRS attacks. Ukraine is still under the threat of further missile strikes.

Towards Volyn, Polissia, Siverskand Sloboda, no formations of enemy offensive groups were detected. The occupiers shelled the settlements of Tymonovichi and Berylivka, Chernihiv oblast; Starykove, Brusky, Buvalyne, Kruzhok, Manukhivka, Atynske, Porozok, Sumy oblast and Chervona Zorya, Veterinarne, Strelecha, Hatishche, Vovchansk and Vovchanski Khutory, Kharkiv oblast.

Towards Kupiansk and Lyman, the enemy carried out unsuccessful offensive actions in the vicinity of Makiivka, Ploshanka, Kreminna, Dibrova and Bilohorivka settlements of Luhansk oblast. They carried out artillery shelling in the vicinity of Dvorichna, Liman Pershiy, Hryanikyvka, Kurylivka, Kislivka and Tabaivka settlements, Kharkiv oblast; Novoselivske, Nevske, Chervopopivka and Dibrova, Luhansk and Spirne and Rozdolivka, Donetsk oblast.

Towards Bakhmut, the Armed Forces of Ukraine repelled enemy attacks in the areas of Vasiukivka, Orihovo-Vasylivka, Berkhivka, Yahidne and Bakhmut settlements of Donetsk oblast. Zaliznianske, Dubovo-Vasylivka, Berkhivka, Bakhmut, Ivanovske, Stupochki, Kostiantynivka, Klischiivka, Zalizne, Ozarianivka, Mayorsk, Pivdenne and New York came under enemy fire.

Towards Avdiivka and Shakhtarsk, the enemy continues to attack the positions of Ukraine troops, and has carried out several unsuccessful offensives towards Kamianka, Krasnohorivka, and Maryinka, Donetsk oblast. They carried out artillery and mortar shelling in the areas of settlements of Avdiivka, Lastochkine, Netaylove, Vodiane, Pervomaiske, Krasnohorivka, Nevelske, Mayinka, Bohoiavlenka, Novomykhailivka, Velyka Novosilka, Neskuchne, and Vuhledar.

Towards Zaporizhzhia, over 20 settlements were struck. Among them are Vremivka and Novopil, Donetsk oblast; Komyshuvakha, Olhivske, Malynivka, Huliaipole, Zaliznychne, Charivne, Orihiv and Novoandriivka, Zaporizhzhia oblast.

Towards Kherson, 25 settlements were attacked from artillery by russian occupation forces, including Havrylivka, Kachkarivka, Vesele, Tyahinka, Inzhenerne, Antonivka, Berehove and Kherson.

The enemy is restricting the movement of the civilian population in the temporarily occupied territory of Kherson oblast. Entry into the settlement of Promin is allowed only to citizens with local registration and a special pass.

Units of the Defense Forces of Ukraine destroyed 11 Iranian attack “Shahed-136” and 1 “Zala” UAVs.

Ukrainian aircraft launched 4 strikes on areas of the occupiers’ buildup. Units of missile and artillery forces hit one control point, two areas of concentration of enemy manpower and two air defense positions.

There are not only Ukrainian defenders, but also civilians in russian captivity. According to Kyrylo Budanov, the head of the Chief Directorate of Intelligence of Ukraine, about 40% of those taken captive are civilians, including kids. “There are women, unfortunately, kids, village heads, post officers, railway workers, mayors, street cleaners. All are in there”, he noted. 

According to the morning report of the General Staff, Ukrainian defenders repelled 60 enemy attacks towards Kupiansk, Lyman, Bakhmut, Avdiivka and Shakhtarsk. 

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

Kharkiv oblast

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, at least 12 settlements were under russian shelling overnight. Troops shelled at least 18 settlements. Russia continues to focus its efforts on offensive actions towards Kupiansk.

Head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, Oleh Syniehubov, reported that this morning, Kupiansk was shelled once again. Residential buildings were destroyed and a kindergarten building damaged. The city recreation park was also hit. A 63-year-old civilian man was killed.

The invaders continue to shell civilians and infrastructure of the border settlements of Chuhuiv, Kharkiv and Kupiansk regions.

Ukrenerho informed that the shelling damaged power grids and repair work is ongoing. 

Yesterday after 12 am, 8 residential buildings and outbuildings were damaged as a result of shelling in Vovchanski Khutory, Chuhuiv region. There were no casualties.

In Kupiansk, a private residential building was damaged as a result of enemy shelling.

The mine danger remains high. This morning in Volokhiv Yar village of Chuhuiv region a 60-year-old man, who was on his land plot, exploded on a Butterfly anti-personnel mine. He was hospitalized with shrapnel wounds.

City Council Spokesman, Yurii Sydorenko, said that Kharkiv renamed 18 place names associated with russia. Deputies unanimously supported re-naming.

A member of the humanitarian headquarters at the regional administration, Oleksii Lytvynov, noted that since the beginning of the invasion, Kharkiv oblast has received almost 16K tons of humanitarian aid. The dynamics of humanitarian aid delivery is now lower.

Donetsk oblast

Commander of the Ukrainian Army, Colonel General Oleksandr Syrskyi reported on the current situation in the defense of Bakhmut. The enemy has sent the most trained Wagner assault units in the offensive, trying to break through the defense of Ukrianian troops and surround the city. He added that the situation in Bakhmut is extremely tense. According to Deepstatemap, russians have surrounded the city from three sides, but the main road to the west remains under the control of the Ukrainian military.

At night, russians shelled Sviatohirsk, hitting a unit of the State Emergency Service. According to preliminary information, 1 rescuer was killed and 4 others injured.

The operational situation in the rest of the region remains tense along the entire frontline and in the relative rear. Shevchenkove village of Pokrovsk community was under attack. 11 buildings were damaged. There were no casualties.

Towards Volnovakha, Novoukrainka and Vuhledar, Novoukrainka were shelled. There were no casualties.

Towards Donetsk, 1 person was killed and 1 injured in Kurakhivka, a 2-storey building, 2 private buildings and an administrative building were damaged. A building was damaged in Vovchenka of Kurakhove community. There was shelling in Avdiivka, Marinka and Ocheretyne communities.

Towards Horlivka, 3 civilians were injured in Kostiantynivka and 7 buildings damaged in the city. Other 2 buildings were damaged in Ivanopillia. There were no casualties. At least 2 people were injured, an apartment building, a school and a shop damaged in Bakhmut. Intense shelling continues in Soledar community; 5 buildings in Vasiukivka and 6 in Fedorivka were damaged.

Towards Lysychansk, Siversk is suffering, private buildings on two streets were damaged yesterday.

The night before, russians shelled Ivanopillia of Kostiantynivka community, damaging the local specialized school.

Also yesterday, an educational complex in Bakhmut was targeted. The entire infrastructure was almost completely destroyed.

In total, 720 educational institutions in the region, 299 kindergartens, 317 schools, 43 universities, 29 vocational schools and 32 extracurricular education institutions, sustained varying degrees of damage.

Head of the Donetsk Regional Military Administration, Pavlo Kyrylenko, informed that yesterday russians killed 1 civilian in Kurakhivka. 9 people were injured.

Recently, during a massive enemy assault on Maryinka, a Ukrainian paratrooper of the 79th separate air assault brigade destroyed five tanks and three armoured personnel carriers of russian invaders.

Luhansk oblast

Yesterday, the enemy conducted unsuccessful offensive towards Kupiansk and Lyman in Bilohorivka, Dibrova, Kreminna, Makiivka, Nevske, Ploshchanka and Stelmakhivka. The enemy attacked Chervonopopivka, Dibrova, Nevske and Novoselivske with artillery.

According to the press service of the Luhansk Regional Military Administration, in occupied Sievierodonetsk, food prices are twice as high as in other settlements of the region. There are only two large stores in the city. 

Head of the Luhansk Regional Military Administration, Serhii Haidai, reported that russian troops are trying to constantly put pressure on Ukrainian defense, most often towards Kreminna. According to him, in Kuzemivka and Novoselivske of Svatove region, the invaders also tried to advance with heavy equipment but had no success. The paperwork is almost finalized within the framework of cooperation with the Red Cross Society and Ukrainian military administrations to build accommodation for Luhansk IDPs in the west of Ukraine. 

Referring to the Luhansk RMA, another 200 russian conscripts have been brought to Luhansk oblast. Citizens have been warming themselves in the winter for 5000 rubles a month.

The National Resistance Centre found out what happens to children in the occupied regions of Ukraine after medical examinations and trips to russia for rehabilitation. Over 6K children aged four months to 17 years, treated in russian institutions, are engaged in the “re-education” of Ukrainians. Children are forced to have russia-oriented scientific, cultural, patriotic and/or military education. Russia presents it as an integration program.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

During her visit to the capital on February 27, the US Secretary of the Treasury, Janet Yellen, announced the first tranche of additional budgetary aid to be provided to Kyiv in the next three quarters of 2023. The total amount of aid amounts to USD 9.9 billion.

The U.S. delegation visited one of Kyiv fire and rescue units, where they met with representatives of the State Emergency Service and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine and saw modern fire and rescue equipment.

Kyiv Regional Military Administration reported that 6,775 housing, educational, healthcare, and public service facilities have been fully restored in Kyiv oblast. More than 3,900 facilities have been partially rebuilt with their essential services being provided. The facilities have been restored at the expense of the reserve fund of the state and local budgets, with the assistance of international partners, organizations and foundations.

Borodianka Village Council reported that their community received 5 trucks of construction materials from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. They will be provided to owners of households damaged as a result of russia’s full-scale invasion.

According to the Kyiv Administration, about 800 generators were purchased by the capital at the end of last year and at the beginning of this one to support the operation of Kyiv’s infrastructure. The city also received a fairly large number of generators as assistance from partners.

The Kyiv City State Administration announced that an updated emergency notification system will be tested in Kyiv on February 28. During the test, loud monotonous alarm sounds and voice messages will be activated. The testing will take place in Desnianskyi district.

School students in Makariv and Borodianka communities affected by the full-scale russian invasion received 338 new tablets for distance learning. The devices have all educational content, including necessary teaching materials, textbooks, lectures, video tutorials, and educational software. The project was made possible thanks to cooperation with ASBISc Enterprises and the NGO 7Fields.

Zhytomyr oblast

The Zhytomyr RMA reported that two Valkyrie drones were handed over to the Ukrainian Air Assault Forces with the help of volunteers and the Zhytomyr Humanitarian Hub. These UAVs require no additional support device for takeoff, are equipped with a variety of sensors, offer a wide range of features, including autonomous flight at an altitude of up to 2 kilometers, and are capable of operating in difficult weather conditions.

The portrait of Mariupol defender Mykhailo Dianov was embroidered by Tetiana Paschenko, an honored master of folk art from Zhytomyr oblast. She spent five months embroidering a 53-by-63-centimeter piece, using 100 colors. Her other works include a hand-embroidered portrait of President Volodymyr Zelensky and his wife, ‘The Family.’ The woman plans to donate the proceeds from its sale to help the Armed Forces.

Sumy oblast

The enemy shelled six communities in Sumy oblast, Bilopillia, Shalyhine, Nova Sloboda, Krasnopillia, Seredyno-Buda and Hlukhiv. This information was reported by the Sumy Regional Military Administration. There were 86 arrivals in total.

During a mortar attack in Seredyno-Buda community, the occupiers damaged two houses of local residents. In Nova Sloboda community, a household and an outbuilding were hit. In Hlukhiv region, road asphalt surface and windows of the local houses were damaged.

At night, the russian troops attacked territories of Seredyno-Buda, Khotyn and Esman communities, reports the Sumy RMA. There were 36 hits from mortars and multiple rocket launchers.

The ‘North’ Operational Command informed about another enemy attack on the border of Sumy oblast that took place in the morning: between 08:40 and 08:50, two attacks, presumably from a mortar, were reported in the territory of Hirky. In the afternoon, there were 5 mortar hits in the village of Bachivsk, Shostka region.

Okhtyrka car enthusiasts sent a pickup truck made from a Moskvich to the frontline. They bought and transformed the old vehicle themselves. It will be used for the needs of the 31st Brigade of our defenders near Bakhmut.

Sumy Clinical Maternity Hospital received medical devices for artificial lung ventilation. The vertical breathing circuits were delivered to the neonatal intensive care unit from the ZDOROVI National Humanitarian Aid Agency.

Trostianets schoolchildren have returned from a vacation hosted by the German city of Alkhorn. This was reported by the Okhtyrka City Council. According to the report,  children also came with humanitarian aid. German friends donated bed linen, medication, healthcare products, and toiletries, while benefactors from Poland donated 70

In Sumy, animal rights activists received help for their wards. 17,493 boxes of pet food were delivered by the Happy Paw Charitable Foundation and Purina Ukraine.

Chernihiv oblast

Chernihiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office reported that yesterday, a russian UAV dropped explosives on a civilian car in the center of the Tymonovychi village, Semenivka community. Before that, the enemy shelled the outskirts of the village. The same day, the occupiers fired 35 artillery shells at the villages of Senkivka and Berylivka of the Horodnya community.

The ‘North’ Operational Command reported that russians attacked the Snovske community on Tuesday morning. Around 9:00, there were 11 hits, allegedly from a mortar, on the territory of the Yelino village.

In the afternoon, the village of Tymonovychi of the Semenivka community came under enemy fire again. There were 5 hits, allegedly from barrel artillery.

Viacheslav Chaus, head of the Chernihiv RMA, informed that the third modular bridge delivered from France has been completed in Chernihiv oblast. The reliable 21-meter-long temporary structure is located in Snovska community. The first two bridges are already in use by residents of Novyi and Staryi Bilous.

The Prosecutor General’s Office reported that a russian soldier will be put on trial in Chernihiv oblast for shooting at civilians and looting. During the occupation of Pakul village in Chernihiv oblast, the commander of one of the russian units went down to the basement of the local forestry and shot at two residents there, causing them injuries of varying severity. The accused also ordered his subordinates to rob a recreation center. This person will be brought to court for violation of the laws and customs of war.

Acting Mayor of Chernihiv Oleksandr Lomako has addressed the regional security and defense council with an initiative to return street lighting in Chernihiv. According to the information provided, as of February 27, there is no shortage of power in the energy system, and street lighting is crucial for residents’ safety. Street lighting will also be restored in the Mena community on March 1, as reported by Mena Mayor Hennadiy Prymakov.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

According to head of the regional council Mykola Lukashuk, the night in Nikopol region was tense due to enemy shelling.

The occupiers targeted heavy artillery shells at Nikopol. As a result of the attack, three private houses and an outbuilding were gutted in the city. A hotel building, a car, and power lines were mutilated. 

The exhibition of one exhibit, the diary of the russian occupier, is ongoing in the Museum of Resistance to the Holodomor in Dnipro. It was provided by historian and volunteer Yurii Fanyhin, who received this diary from one of the soldiers.

Vinnytsia oblast

​​ A safety class was opened at the lyceum of the village of Viitivtsi in the Khmilnytskyi district. The first lesson was conducted for 7th-grade students. The rescuers told them about mine and explosive safety, rules of behavior on water, road traffic, and first aid.

Vinnytsia RMA reported that soldiers of the 210th battalion of the 120th brigade were given 6 generators and a thermal imager for border guards. 

Kirovohrad oblast

Ten-year-old Sofia Kravchenko sold her drawings to help the Ukrainian military. Since April, the girl and her family have been living in Kropyvnytskyi. They came from the city of Tavriisk, Kherson oblast. It is currently temporarily occupied by the russian army. The schoolgirl received two thousand hryvnias for her drawings. The money will be transferred to the public space of CropHub, which collects aid for the military.

Poltava oblast

Internally displaced people will receive warm clothes from UNICEF in Kobeliaky community.  

Reshetyliv volunteers managed to collect over 60,000 hryvnias and purchase a thermal imager and Motorola walkie-talkies for the military.

Cherkasy oblast

Head of RMA Ihor Taburets informed that Cherkasy energy industry has provided powerful reinforcements for ground defense units operating at the front. These are all-wheel drive ATVs, quadcopters, thermal imagers, motorized pumps, and other material and technical means for arranging life at the positions.

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

According to Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, in Zaporizhzhia region, the enemy fired 121 times at the positions of Ukrainian defenders, using tank weapons, rocket launchers and cannon artillery along the entire contact line. The situation in Zaporizhzhia did not change significantly. The enemy is focusing its main efforts on holding the occupied borders. However, the defenders of Zaporizhzhia oblast are giving a worthy rebuff to the russian occupation troops.

According to Andriy Yermak, the head of the Presidential Office, in Zaporizhzhia, the Defense Forces destroyed a russian UAV. Another drone was sent towards Dnipropetrovsk region, but it was also shot down there.

The occupiers of ZNPP violate all nuclear and radiation safety protocols. For example, recently they were frying potatoes at the plant until the fire alarm went off. Earlier the alarm went off when the invaders welded a lock on the door. Rashists cook, sleep and perform hygiene procedures, hiding in offices and basements like cockroaches. They hang their laundry right in the production facilities of the plant. The situation in Enerhodar remains critical, as there is virtually no heating in the city, as the enemy does not allow any of the power units of Zaporizhzhia NPP to be launched. The city has no other source of centralized heating. There is also no hot water in the city. The temperature in the houses is 10-15 degrees. 

In Berdiansk and Berdiansk district, the occupiers have started confiscating vehicles. These are mostly abandoned cars of the city residents who evacuated. Occupiers are taking away the cars under the pretext of “improving the appearance of the streets and clearing roads for passage of municipal vehicles”. In reality, this is another manipulation to steal vehicles from local residents.

Activists of the Yellow Ribbon in Berdiansk painted new graffiti, hung ribbons and posted leaflets and called to join the movement, print posters, distribute them in the city. The Yellow Ribbon is a social movement, created in April 2022 after the full-scale russian military invasion. Its goal is to provide information resistance to the russian occupiers. There are activists of the Yellow Ribbon movement in all cities of the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine. It has almost 7000 activists.

Mykolaiv oblast

According to the Mykolaiv Military Administration, this morning the enemy launched 5 attacks with MLRS and other types of artillery at the water area of Ochakiv community and the coast of Kutsurub community. There were no casualties.

According to the Mykolaiv city council, in Mykolaiv, the distribution of bread and canned food under the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) will be suspended from March 1, 2023. The distribution points have been operating since April 16, 2022. During this time people have received more than three million loaves of bread and almost two million cans of canned food. The suspension of the program in Mykolaiv was explained by a change in priorities. As of March 2023, the program will continue to operate in 14 frontline communities in Mykolaiv region and throughout the de-occupied part of Kherson region.

Odesa oblast

The threat of missile attacks on Odesa oblast remains high. As of yesterday evening, the enemy’s naval grouping in the Black Sea has doubled to twelve units. Russian ships are at a safe distance from the Ukrainian-controlled coast, including three large landing ships and two submarines with eight “calibers” on board,” the South Command reported.

According to the report of the Center for Emergency Medical Care and Disaster Medicine of Odesa Oblast, medics from Odesa oblast are preparing for another mission to de-occupied territories of Mykolaiv oblast. The ambulance is already being equipped with the necessary things.

Ivan Rusev, an ecologist from Odesa oblast, wrote a book called War is the Apogee of the Black Sea Dolphin Ecocide about the mass death of these animals after the full-scale invasion of russian troops. In the book, the author describes the horrors faced by dolphins during the fighting. This book has no analogues today. It will have about 400 pages. It needs funds to be printed, so the author is looking for sponsors and people who care to help the book reach readers.

In Odesa, during the russian military invasion of Ukraine, one of the city’s hallmarks is being defended, the monument to Duke, Governor General of the region Armand Emmanuel du Plessis, Duke de Richelieu, erected in Odesa in 1828. It is a monument of architecture and urban planning, a monumental art of national importance. To protect the monument to Duke de Richelieu during the war, Odesa residents twice covered it with sandbags. 185 tons of sand was used in total.

Kherson oblast

According to the Kherson Military Regional Administration, today russians shelled Kherson. The shelling resulted in destruction of a private residential building. There are victims. A 71-year-old resident was killed.

The russian attack cost the life of a 45-year-old man from the village of Komyshany. His injuries were numerous and severe. The victim died in the hospital’s emergency room. In the village of Mykolayivka, a 68-year-old woman was killed by shelling. In Kherson oblast a total of 4 people were killed and 5 people were wounded by russian strikes.

According to the Kherson RMA, the russian invaders attacked Kherson region 119 times. Civilian settlements were attacked with various types of weapons. MLRS, mortars, artillery, tanks, UAVs and infantry fighting vehicles.

Kherson was shelled 18 times by the russian army, hitting residential areas of the city. Enemy shells hit a school, private and apartment buildings.

According to Serhiy Khlan, a deputy of the Kherson Regional Council, russian occupiers and collaborators gather at Arabat Spit. The enemy troops believe that it is safe there, including for the placement of their “administrations” and for training troops. The locations’ coordinates are known, but so far the Ukrainian Armed Forces have no opportunity to hit them. 

Latest news for today in the western regions of Ukraine

Volyn oblast

The RMA reported that in Lutsk, during a charity football match, almost UAH 100K were collected for the purchase of cars for the military.

Zakarpattia oblast

Mayor of Darmstadt, Jochen Partch, is in Uzhhorod on a working visit. During the meeting in the city council, they discussed how Uzhhorod lives after the start of a full-scale war.

The city council reported that the Uzhhorod City Children’s Hospital received a generator and medical equipment from the German city of Darmstadt.

The Mobile Playspace project was launched by the Malta Aid Center to provide psychosocial support to children in a fun way. A specialized team in Zakarpattia oblast travels on a special bus filled with game and sports equipment. The team includes psychologists, animators and art therapists.

In Berehove, a project was prepared, according to which parents of students sending their children to Ukrainian-language classes until the 5th grade, will receive UAH 30K each year. This approach will allow a significant percentage of children to learn the state language in just a few years.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

The RMA reported that Ivano-Frankivsk oblast sheltered 455 children forced to leave 24-hour care facilities due to russia’s armed aggression. In a few days, almost a hundred more children from Sumy oblast will come to the oblast.

A project to create a safe environment for children was launched in Prykarpattia. The Safety Specialist in the Educational Environment or Safety Educator project is a pilot project. Its goal is to create a safe environment for children that is free from bullying, drugs and violence.

As part of the implementation of the Safety Educator project, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the department of education and science of the regional state administration, the main department of the National Police of Ukraine in Ivano-Frankivsk oblast, the main department of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in the oblast and the Solotvyn settlement council.

Lviv oblast

Lviv signed a Memorandum of cooperation with Holtec International to study the feasibility of implementing the HI-HEAT project. It is about the latest technology of the Holtec company, which involves accumulation of clean energy and supply of steam to provide heating and hot water for buildings.

Rivne oblast

International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)

Belgian Finance Minister, Vincent Van Peteghem, reported that the total volume of assets of russian individuals and legal entities frozen in Belgium amounts to €58 billion, and the blocked financial transactions of the russian federation amount to €191 billion.
