It has been the 305th day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression. 

What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 6 pm:   

The occupiers launched a missile strike on Kupiansk, Kharkiv oblast. There were also over 10 attacks from multiple launch rocket systems.

Ukraine is still under the threat of enemy air and missile strikes on critical infrastructure.

Towards Siversk, the enemy shelled the positions of the Defense Forces in the areas of Vyntorivka, Manukhivka, Ryzhivka and Vorozhba, Sumy oblast.

Towards Kupisnsk and Lyman, more than 25 settlements were shelled from tanks and artillery, namely Dvorichna, Kyslivka, Kotliarivka and Berestove in Kharkiv oblast; Ploshchanka, Dibrova and Chervonopopivka of Luhansk oblast and Yampolivka in Donetsk oblast.

Towards Bakhmut and Avdiivka, the occupiers shelled more than 20 settlements, namely Spirne, Berestove, Yakovlivka, Soledar, Bakhmut, Opytne, Ozaryanivka and Niu York of Donetsk oblast. 

Towards Novopavlivka, the enemy inflicted fire on Vuhledar, Velyka Novosilka and Vremivka in Donetsk oblast.

Towards Zaporizhzhia, more than 20 settlements were shelled, namely Huliaipole, Krasne, Stepove, Mali Shcherbaky, Shcherbaky and Charivne of Zaporizhia oblast and Nikopol of Dnipropetrovsk oblast.

To intimidate local residents, the russian occupiers continue chaotic shelling of liberated cities and villages along the right bank of the Dnipro River. The city of Beryslav, Kherson oblast, is subjected to systematic mortar shelling. Also, towards Kherson, the civilian infrastructure of the settlements of Kherson, Respublikanets, Tiahynka, Zelenivka, Inzhenerne, Antonivka, Sadove and Velletenske suffered from shelling. There are casualties among civilians.

In Donetsk oblast, 4 self-propelled artillery installations 2S7 Pion were destroyed. And in the area of Zabaryne, Kherson oblast, the headquarters of the occupiers was hit, where a meeting of officers of the southern military district of the Armed Forces of the russian federation was held. As a result, up to 70 servicemen were injured. The death toll is being specified.

During the day, the aviation of the Defense Forces inflicted 2 strikes on the buildups of the invaders. Units of rocket forces and artillery struck 5 control points and a buildup of enemy manpower.

Mayor of Kilia Viacheslav Cherniavsky says that three border guards who were in captivity returned to Odesa oblast. These are the border guards who defended Zmiinyi (Snake) island. 

Mayor of Melitopol Ivan Fedorov informs that the russian occupiers do not release people from the occupied territories. As you know, a month ago, they stopped releasing men of draft age, and now they do not allow even women, children and the elderly to leave. “The rashists have made a reservation from the occupied territories and are holding people hostage. For 10 days, they have not released residents of the temporarily occupied territories of Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts through Vasylivka towards Zaporizhzhia,” said the mayor of Melitopol. 

According to Head of the Luhansk oblast, Serhii Haidai, in the battles of Bakhmut, russians are losing thousands of soldiers. Currently, the seizure of Bakhmut is not a strategic military plan, but rather a symbol of some kind of military capability.

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

Kharkiv oblast

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, our troops repelled an enemy attack in Lyman. The invaders did not stop trying to improve the tactical situation towards Kupiansk. Russian invaders launched a missile attack on Kupiansk. The city was also shelled with multiple rocket launchers more than 10 times.

Director of Kharkiv Human Rights Protection Group, Yevhen Zakharov informed that the group will receive half of the Nobel Prize. Human rights activists will give this money to the families whose members were killed because of the full-scale war. He also noted that the Kharkiv Human Rights Protection Group is the only active member of the International Memorial in Ukraine.

Head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, Oleh Syniehubov, reported that they have restored the bridge in Martove village, Chuhuiv region, on the Pechenihy reservoir, which was destroyed by the invaders retreating in September.

According to the preliminary information of Head of the Kupiansk Military Regional Administration, Andrii Kanashevych, one woman was injured in the Dvorichna community as a result of russian shelling. Information is being clarified.

Hoptivka, Huriv Kozachok, Kozacha Lopan, Krasne, Ohirtseve, Starytsia, Strilecha, Ternova, Veterynarne, Vovchansk and other settlements were shelled with mortars and artillery. 

Towards Kupiansk, the enemy attacked Dvorichna, Kotliarivka, Krokhmalne, Kupiansk, Kyslivka, Novomlynsk and Tabaivka with tanks, barrel and rocket artillery.

As a result of enemy artillery shelling in Podoly village of the Kupiansk region, a 72-year-old man was killed. His 74-year-old wife was injured and hospitalised. The condition of the victim is average.

Donetsk oblast

Russian occupation troops launched three missiles on Kramatorsk. They hit one of the industrial enterprises. Workshops and equipment were damaged, but there were no casualties.

This afternoon, the invaders attacked Avdiivka multiple times. They shelled the city with artillery and Hrads with incendiary elements six times. A woman was injured.

At night and in the morning, russians continued shelling along the entire frontline.

Towards Volnovakha, Vuhledar and the outskirts of the city were under attack again – without casualties.

Towards Donetsk, there were no casualties. At night, the shelling of the Marinka community continued: The Maksymilianivka City Council was damaged, Krasnohorivka and Marinka were targeted. In the morning, Orlivka of the Ocheretyne community and Avdiivka were under artillery fire. The hospital was damaged.

Towards Horlivka, Predtechyne of the Kostiantynivka community was hit by a missile attack – 1 person was injured and 4 buildings damaged. In Bakhmut, 5 civilians were injured and 1 building damaged.

Towards Lysychansk, Torske and Zarichne of the Lyman community continue to be shelled – there were no casualties.

Mariupol Mayor’s Councillor, Petro Andriushchenko, reported that russians started to demolish  downtown houses, including the building with the clock, a historic building where the famous monumental artist Viktor Arnautov worked. Victor Arnautov’s mosaics are recognized as a historical and cultural heritage of the United States. But in Mariupol, the invaders demolished a building with a unique mosaic of the architect.

Based on the information provided by Head of the Donetsk Regional Military Administration, Pavlo Kyrylenko, yesterday russians injured 7 civilians: 5 in Bakhmut, 1 in Maksymilianivka and 1 in Predtechyne.

Luhansk oblast

Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled enemy attacks in Chervonopopivka, Novoselivske, Ploshchanka and Stelmakhivka. Towards Kupiansk, the enemy attacked Miasozharivka, Novoselivske and Stelmakhivka with tanks, barrel and rocket artillery. Towards Lyman, Chervonopopivka, Dibrova, Makiivka and Ploshchanka were targeted.

Head of the Luhansk Regional Military Administration, Serhii Haidai, reported that the attempt to capture Bakhmut is symbolic for russians. They are trying to achieve at least some victory by a certain date. As a result, the enemy has already lost thousands of soldiers there and the city is under the Ukrainian flag.

According to the Luhansk Regional Military Administration, in total, the Proliska humanitarian mission based on the humanitarian headquarters of the Lysychansk City Military Administration provided 21,267 units of aid.

Head of the Luhansk RMA, Serhii Haidai, informed on the air of the national marathon that russians are training new mobilized soldiers who can create serious problems for Ukrainian troops, first of all on the Eastern front.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

Le Figaro reported that the Minister of the Armed Forces of France, Sébastien Lecornu, will visit Ukraine to demonstrate the Ukrainian authorities the unwavering support of France. The French minister will honor the memory of those killed in Ukraine at the monument to Heroes in Kyiv and meet with his Ukrainian colleague Oleksii Reznikov.

The Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine Oleksandr Tkachenko says that the art tour of the Swiss light artist Gerri Hofstetter has been canceled due to another terrorist attack in Kherson, which resulted in numerous victims. The light-art tour started in Kyiv on December 23 and was scheduled for three Christmas evenings.

The Ministry of Veterans Affairs of Ukraine reported that Portugal donated EUR 50K for reconstruction of Borodianka-Center rehabilitation center, completely destroyed due to a direct hit by a russian tank shell. Funds were collected from the sale of solidarity stamps. On September 27, the operator of postal services in Portugal CTT – Correios de Portugal launched the stamp Solidarity with the Ukrainian people into circulation.

Kyiv RMA reported that reconstruction of destroyed buildings in Hostomel, Bucha and surrounding settlements is underway. Damaged roofs of high-rise buildings are repaired, windows and doors installed, heating and water supply systems restored.

Kyiv RMA reported that authorities have developed a scenario for providing the residents of Kyiv with drinking water in the event of long-term interruptions in the city’s electricity supply. They are working on connecting the network of pumping stations to alternative power sources. The possibility of transporting containers with drinking water is also being studied.

The Kyiv Regional Employment Center reported that 806 people have already joined the Recovery Army in Kyiv oblast. Over the past 3 weeks, almost one and a half hundred residents and migrants have found work within the project.

Bucha community will receive a thousand mine hazard marking systems, provided by the Ministry of Reintegration together with the International Committee of the Red Cross. Permanent mine danger signs will be used to mark dangerous areas contaminated with explosive objects.

In the Kyiv Zoo, a wood-burning stove was installed to prepare food for animals and birds in case of a power blackout. Various “dishes” for animals are cooked and baked there – compotes, porridges, vegetables, eggs, meat and fish. The practice turned out to be successful. Now there are plans to install several more such stoves.

Zhytomyr oblast

Zhytomyr office of the State Emergency Service reported that three rescuers from the oblast – Serhii Kurinny, Dmytro Krasnoshchokov and Oleksii Sych – were killed when they were blown up by a mine in the Kherson oblast. They went to Kherson oblast to demine the territories liberated from russian troops.

To provide residents of Zhytomyr oblast with uninterrupted communication in the event of a possible blackout, regional authorities are working out ways to help mobile operators with backup power. As reported by Zhytomyr RMA, the possibility of connecting mobile base stations to generators of communal and private enterprises, shopping centers, institutions and organizations that have free electrical capacity is currently being considered.

Employees of Zhytomyr water utility are connecting generators to be ready for a power outage. This will make it possible to provide key facilities of Zhytomyrvodokanal with electricity.

Sumy oblast

Head of Sumy Regional Military Administration Dmytro Zhivytskyi announced that the russian occupying forces have launched 87 strikes on the border of Sumy oblast: four communities came under shelling, and civil infrastructure was damaged. The occupiers used small arms, artillery and mortars. As a result of shelling in the Vorozhba community, an infrastructure building and power lines were damaged.

Six generators arrived in Trostianets community from German partners. On Monday, these generators will be distributed to utilities, community institutions, and support energy security and high-quality service to the population. This support is part of the efforts aimed at helping partner communities of Ukraine in expanding a list of administrative services, carried out as part of the project EU Strong Regions Program Special Support Program for Ukraine co-financed by the European Union and the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany (BMZ) and implemented by GIZ Ukraine.

Chernihiv oblast

The ‘North’ Operational Command reported in Telegram that the Bethlehem flame of peace is handed over to the military by young scouts all over the country on Christmas Day. At the end of the Divine Liturgy, Plast. Chernihiv solemnly handed over the traditional Bethlehem flame of peace to the commander of the troops of the “North” OC, Major General Viktor Nikoliuk, for the units of the command.

Chernihiv has a sister city from Finland. At a meeting of the city council, Chernihiv deputies watched the English-language video address of the mayor of Lappeenranta, Kimmo Järva, against the background of a Christmas tree. Dnipropetrovsk oblast

According to the Head of the Regional Council Mykola Lukashuk, overnight Russians attacked the Nikopol region again with heavy artillery.

The “Carol of the Unbreakable” was performed in Dnipro. It was the first concert of the Dnipro band “Vertep” this year. Four of the band’s musicians have been in the military since the war started and have been serving in different units, in different directions. So they were able to get to play together only now.

Vinnytsia oblast

Daughters and wives of the defenders, volunteers sent them gifts. This is the initiative of Volodymyr Hunka, a resident of village of Obodivka, Haysyn district, Vinnytsia oblast. Since 2014, he had been greeting the children of his fallen comrades. Oksana, his beloved one, took over this tradition after his death in Bakhmut 5 months ago.

At the “Kvadrat” youth center, they held a master class on weaving Christmas wreaths and joined the all-Ukrainian campaign “Christmas for a Hero”. Zoia Kuzmenko, the mother of the Hero of the Heavenly Hundred, Maksym Shymko from Vinnytsia, conducted a master class for all students. Tetiana Maiboroda – mother of the Hero of Ukraine – military pilot Dmytro Maiboroda – also joined in. She once again reminded the students of the price of our independence.

Poltava oblast

A charitable flash mob “Christmas candle” began in Poltava. Each lit lamp will symbolize the “light of hope in the hearts of children” who have suffered from war.

Cherkasy oblast

In Cherkasy, in the church of Saints Cyril and Methodius near the Cherkasy National University, the plastuns (scouts) performed the Holodonyi Yar Christmas nativity scene. The carolers collected money for starlinks for the Territorial Defense.m

British firefighter Jason Hull, who is in Ukraine and trains Ukrainian rescuers to overcome the consequences of russian shelling, met with Cherkasy residents. The guest shared interesting stories from his own experience and conducted a practical foreign language lesson, explaining the differences between British and American pronunciation.

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

The situation towards Zaporizhzhia has not significantly changed over the past day. The enemy concentrates its key efforts on holding the occupied borders.

 The occupiers shelled the civilian infrastructure in the settlements of Malynivka, Novodanylivka, Novoandriivka, Dorozhnianka, Orikhiv, Plavni, Mala Tokmachka, Olhivske, Charivne, Shcherbaky, Temyrivka, Bilohiria, Preobrazhenka, Poltavka, Novopavlivka, Zaliznychne, Huliaipole, Kamianske, Stepove, Tarviiske. The police received 20 reports about destruction of houses (apartments) and infrastructure facilities as a result of shelling by russian military personnel.

The russian occupiers continue to strengthen regime and administrative measures in the temporarily occupied territories of Zaporizhzhia oblast. The occupiers imposed a curfew in the period from December 28 this year to January 4, 2023 in Vasylivka. Emergency service workers are issued special passes, and other local residents are prohibited from leaving their homes and moving around the settlement.

Mykolaiv oblast

Yesterday, December 24, the enemy launched artillery strikes on the Black Sea aquatory. The enemy also shelled the territory of Ochakiv community. There are no casualties. The day and night passed relatively calmly in Mykolaiv, Pervomaisky, Voznesensky and Bashtansky districts.

On December 24, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba and heads of foreign diplomatic institutions of Ukraine in the world arrived in Mykolaiv. The diplomats visited the damaged and destroyed infrastructure in the city and promised to contribute to international aid and reconstruction of Mykolaiv oblast.

On December 25, the military orchestra of the 406th separate artillery brigade named after Major-General Oleksii Almazov gave a concert in Mykolaiv on the occasion of Christmas. The concert was organized impromptu and songs were performed for an hour. The orchestra performed 18 compositions of various genres.

Odesa oblast

The enemy ship group in the Black Sea has increased to 14 units, including 2 surface and 2 underwater missile carriers. The total volume of Kalibrs can reach 24 units.

As of December 24, 149 “Invincibility center” are operating in Odesa oblast. Their number is planned to be doubled. This was reported by the head of the Odesa District Military Administration Iurii Kruk.

Classes on early development, English, logic, art and other disciplines will be held in Odesa for IDP’s children aged 3 to 10 years. All classes and consultations are free of charge. Registration is required.

Kherson oblast

The russian occupiers continue their chaotic shelling of the civilian population in the liberated towns and villages along the right bank of the Dnipro River. The city of Beryslav, Kherson oblast, is being systematically shelled by mortars. Also the civil infrastructure of Kherson, Respublikanets, Tiahynka, Zelenivka, Inzhenerne, Antonivka, Sadove, and Veletenske was damaged by shelling. There are casualties among civilians.

Yesterday on December 24, the russian occupiers shelled Kherson oblast 71 times. The enemy attacked the regional center 41 times. The invaders covered the center of Kherson with massive fire civilians were killed, civilian buildings were destroyed. Industrial premises, medical facilities, private and apartment buildings also were shelled by the enemy. Yesterday, the russian army killed 16 people in Kherson oblast, including 3 employees of the State Emergency Service. They died during a demining of territories in the Beryslav district.  64 people were injured of varying degrees of severity.

Yesterday, 11 fires broke out in Kherson oblast due to shelling by russian troops. The rescuers have been extinguishing a fire in a house caused by enemy shelling for three hours in Beryslav region. 6 cars and a stall in the market were on fire after the russian shelling in Kherson. 20 rescuers extinguished the fire, 4 units of equipment were used. Also, te russian military hit a one-story building, where emergency services workers pulled over a man and a woman from under the rubble.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported the fire damage to the headquarters of the occupiers near Zabaryne, Kherson oblast. The occupiers attended a meeting of officers of the Southern Military District of the Armed Forces of the russian federation there. As a result, up to 70 servicemen were injured. The number of liquidated personnel is being clarified.

Policemen, together with rescuers and national guardsmen, are helping the Kherson residents to eliminate the consequences of shelling. Now they bring construction materials to the townspeople, cover window and door openings, balcony frames knocked out by shells or the blast wave.

Latest news for today in the western regions of Ukraine

The Western Operational-Territorial Unit of the National Guard of Ukraine recently held a special high-altitude training meeting in the Carpathians. Guardsmen of one of the training centers of a SM units of NSU and guardsmen of the mountain patrol company took part in it.

Volyn oblast

A Border Control Center with belarus was launched in Volyn. The State Border Service of Ukraine said that the law enforcement officers will be able to respond in a timely manner to any provocations of the neighboring state. The Center will receive information about the situation on the border with Poland and belarus.

Zakarpattia oblast

Zakarpattia will create modular housing for IDPs from Luhansk oblast. Energy-efficient houses for temporary residence will be erected in the shortest possible time.

Zakarpattia received a cargo from the Accredited Separate Unit of the Hungarian Ecumenical Aid Service in Ukraine. These are two cars with warm clothes, namely, jackets, pants and hats, for several thousand soldiers.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

The proven night limit for the oblast on December 25 is unlimited. This made it possible to pass the night time of the day without shutdowns. The daily limit is slightly higher than the previous day and is 299.84 MW.

Lviv oblast

The situation in the power system remains unchanged. The proven limits cover about 50% of the needs of Lviv oblast.

As of today, over 251K people in the oblast are registered as IDPs in the Unified Information Database. The real number of IDPs living in the territory of Lviv oblast is approximately twice as large, because many people settled in the private sector and were not registered as IDPs.

The largest number of marriages was registered in Lviv oblast this year. Over 8K couples got married in just 22 days of December.

During the full-scale war, 2 963 babies were born in the city maternity hospitals of Lviv. 375 children were born to forcibly resettled mothers who had to flee from russian shelling.

Rivne oblast

RMA representatives took part in the work of the Coordination Headquarters regarding the organization of the work of the invincibility centers. At the meeting of the Coordination Staff chaired by Vice-Prime Minister for the Reconstruction of Ukraine, Minister Oleksandr Kubrakov, they discussed the deployment and organization of the work of invincibility centers, their communications, etc.

Ternopil oblast

Ternopil rescuers took pictures for the calendar. In each frame, special equipment and employees of the State Emergency Service are depicted against the background of unique locations of the oblast.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

8 wagons of food products (116 tonnes) were transferred from the oblast for the needs of the residents of Luhansk oblast. In addition, 3.7K sets of food products (35.15 tonnes) were handed over for Kherson oblast.

Andrii Tverdokhlib, a soldier from the Kamianets-Podilskyi district, fell in the war. After learning about the loss, his wife Maryna died. Two children remained orphans.

Chernivtsi oblast

The Peaceful Shelter web portal was presented in Chernivtsi. The information platform is aimed at improving the situation with emotional burnout and solving the problems of IDPs, volunteers and shelter managers.

On December 27, the tournament In Memory of Volleyball Veterans and Soldiers of the Armed Forces will be held in Chernivtsi. A box will be set up at the competition to collect funds for the army.

International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)

Germany sent the 13th Bergerpanzer 2 to Ukraine and is preparing 50 field heaters.

The Government of Finland will allocate EUR 5 million for the reconstruction of Ukraine within the framework of the Green Recovery program.

The government of Great Britain will increase the size of the defense budget against the background of hostilities in Ukraine to prevent a reduction in the real level of capital investments in the defense area due to high inflation.

As of January 1, 2023, three Japanese insurance companies will stop insuring ships against military damage in all russian waters.

Head of the Ministry of Defense of France Sebastian Lecorniu will visit Kyiv on December 28. The minister’s visit should demonstrate France’s continued support for Ukraine.

King Filip VI of Spain, in his Christmas address, called for continued support for Ukrainians.

King Filippe of Belgium devoted a significant part of his traditional Christmas address to the nation to the war in Ukraine.

British volunteers as part of the Give Christmas to the Children of Ukraine campaign, which started in Kyiv, distributed over 1K gifts to the children of military personnel, fallen heroes and from low-income families. In total, by the new year, initiators of the project want to give children about 2K more gifts.

The Pink Floyd band collected £500K for Ukraine from the sale of the song Hey, Hey, Rise Up, recorded together with leader of the Boombox band Andrii Khlyvniuk. Funds will be given to volunteers.
