War in Ukraine today: latest news, December 07, 2022 (photo)

It has been the 287th day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression. 

What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 6pm:   

During the day, residential buildings and other civilian objects in the city of Korosten, Zhytomyr oblast, and a number of settlements in Zaporizhzhia oblast were damaged by enemy missile and UAV attacks. In addition, the city of Kurakhove, Donetsk oblast, was shelled by MLRS.

There is still a threat of enemy missile attacks launched on the objects of the energy system and critical infrastructure throughout Ukraine.

Towards Volyn and Polissya directions, the situation has not changed significantly, and no signs of enemy offensive groups being formed. Military drills of enemy units on the training grounds of the republic of belarus continue.

Towards Sloboda, the enemy continues to hold his troops in the border areas of the Belgorod oblast. Strilecha, Ternova, Starytsa, Vovchanski Khutory and Chuhunivka of Kharkiv oblast were shelled from tanks, mortars, and barrel artillery. 

Towards Kupiansk, the enemy is defending. There was artillery shelling of the areas of Dvorichna, Kotliarivka, Tabaivka and Berestove settlements in Kharkiv oblast and Novoselivske and Stelmakhivka in Luhansk oblast.

Towards Lyman, the enemy fired tanks and artillery of various types in the areas of Makiivka, Ploshchanka and Nevske settlements of Luhansk oblast and Terny and Lyman of Donetsk oblast.

Towards Bakhmut and Avdiivka, the occupiers are concentrating their main efforts on conducting offensive actions. Verkhnokamianske, Spirne, Soledar, Bakhmutske, Bakhmut, Klishchiivka, Zalizne, Avdiivka, Vodiane, Pervomaiske, Nevelske, Krasnohorivka, Mariinka, Novomykhailivka of Donetsk oblast were shelled from tanks, mortars and rocket artillery.

The enemy is defending towards Novopavlivka. It carried out artillery and mortar attacks on the positions of our troops near the settlements of Vuhledar, Bohoyavlenka, Prechystivka and Zolota Nyva in Donetsk oblast.

Towards Zaporizhzhia, the enemy inflicted fire damage near Vremivka and Novopil in Donetsk oblast and Dorozhnyanka, Huliaipole and Zaliznychne in Zaporizhzhia oblast.

The enemy is defending towards Kherson. Over 10 settlements came under artillery fire, in particular, Osokorivka, Zolota Balka, Dudchany of Kherson oblast and the outskirts of the city of Kherson.

Ukrainian aviation carried out 11 strikes on buildups of the enemy’s personnel, weapons and military equipment, as well as a strike on the positions of  anti-aircraft missile systems.

Our soldiers shot down an attack UAV of the Shahed-136 type.

Units of rocket troops and artillery of the Defense Forces of Ukraine hit 3 control points, 2 personnel buildups, an artillery buildup, and 2 munitions warehouses of the occupiers.


Ukrenerho reports that on Tuesday night, russia re-shelled several energy infrastructure facilities. Currently, round-the-clock emergency repairs are underway. The electricity shortage still persists.

Head of the development of electronic services at the Ministry of Digital Transformation Mstislav Banik says that in the absence of an internet connection with minimal coverage of mobile communications, the electronic eDocument in the Diia application will be displayed. He also added that without mobile communication, documents do not disappear immediately, but gradually, since each document has its own validity period.

The Center for National Resistance reports that in the temporarily occupied Prymorsk, Zaporizhzhia region, the occupiers  are going to take the property of Ukrainians who were evacuated. The russians urged the owners to contact the occupation administration with documents. Otherwise, the property will be considered mismanaged. 

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

Kharkiv oblast

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, 19 settlements were under russian attack on the morning of December 7. The invaders continued to shell Kharkiv oblast with tanks, mortars and artillery.

Head of Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, Oleh Syniehubov, said that the Kupiansk community remains under enemy attacks. In Kupiansk, as a result of artillery strikes, a lyceum building was partially destroyed and windows broken. There were no casualties.

As a result of the shelling, a 67-year-old woman was hospitalized with shrapnel wounds. The roof, windows of residential buildings and outbuildings were damaged.

After 5 pm, a house was on fire in the Dvorichna community. No casualties. 3 russian missiles of the S-300 complex hit the house of culture and near the school in Borove village of the Shevchenkove community. There were no casualties.

According to the Regional Center for Emergency Medical Care, a 43-year-old woman was killed in the Vovchansk community as a result of russian shelling. A 50-year-old man was hospitalized in critical condition.  

Pyrotechnic units of the State Emergency Service defused 249 explosive ordnance.

The Ministry of Culture announced a fundraiser to restore the children’s music school in Balakliia where during the occupation, russian troops arranged a hospital.

Donetsk oblast

The invaders heavily attacked Kurakhove. A market, a bus station, gas stations and residential buildings were targeted. According to operative information, at least six civilians were killed and five injured.

At least three residents of Yampil were injured by the rashists, and the central square of the settlement was hit. People were receiving humanitarian aid there at that time. The shelling damaged an office building and at least seven residential buildings. 

At night and in the morning, russians fired at different front lines.

Towards Donetsk, there were no casualties, but still some destruction. Infrastructure facilities were under attack in the Kurakhove community. Avdiivka was shelled with Hrad MRLs at night and artillery in the morning. Heorhiivka and Marinka were struck.

Towards Horlivka, one person was injured in Bakhmut. A private building, an administrative building and premises of an enterprise were damaged in the city. An enterprise and a club in Ivanivske were damaged.

Towards Lysychansk, there were about 40 hits in Torske and Zarichne of the Lyman community. The aftermath is clarified.

Head of Donetsk Regional Military Administration, Pavlo Kyrylenko, informed that russians injured 3 civilians: in Bakhmut, Kurakhove and Pavlivka. At present, it is impossible to determine the exact number of casualties in Mariupol and Volnovakha

Luhansk oblast

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, towards Kupiansk, the enemy is on the defensive. Novoselivske and Stelmakhivka suffered from tanks and the entire spectrum of artillery. Towards Lyman, the invaders shelled Makiivka, Nevske and Ploshchanka. 

Referring to the Luhansk RMA, russian doubt about investing in reconstruction of Kreminna. The Luhansk regional hospital is filled with injured invaders and in Sievierodonetsk the next list of apartments for revelation was published.

At the same time, in Starobilsk, where russians are trying to build the second line of defense, the mobilised military personnel is accommodated in private buildings.

Head of the Luhansk Regional Military Administration, Serhii Haidai, said that this week our doctors will start going to the liberated settlements to provide medical assistance to the population. According to him, the liberation of every meter of Luhansk oblast is extremely difficult as russians brought many reserves, both in the form of personnel and equipment.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

DTEK reported that emergency power blackouts are in Kyiv and the oblast. This is a necessary step to balance the power system and avoid equipment breakdowns. Energy workers continue to eliminate the consequences of the massive shelling on December 5.

Head of the police in Kyiv oblast Andrii Nebytov reported that 7 missile landing sites were discovered in the oblast after the last terrorist attack by russia. Some of the wreckage has markings that may indicate that these missiles were upgraded at least in 2022.

In the defense zone near the border with the republic of belarus, a joint staff exercise of the 120th Territorial Defense Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine with subordinate military units was held. The training took place at the request of the commander of the forces and means of Kyiv’s defense.

The KCSA reported that about 100K Kyiv residents joined the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Since the beginning of the full-scale war, 419 residents of the city have died at the front. Among the dead are local historian, author of the blog Disappearing Kyiv Serhii Mironov and activist Roman Ratushny, who was the head of the NGO Protect Protasiv Yar.

The KCSA reported that Kyiv hospitals are preparing for autonomous work in emergency situations. Due to russian shelling, medical facilities may be without heating, central electricity and water supply.

100 Kyiv residents who took part in hostilities and their closest relatives underwent rehabilitation in Poland. Another group of veterans from Kyiv arrived in the city of Tarnów. They will undergo psychological, physical and social rehabilitation there at the expense of the Polish side.

On the occasion of the Day of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, drawings dedicated to people of various professions who did not choose war, but joined the ranks of the army, were presented in the Kyiv metro at the “Golden Gate” station. It was within the information company #ПозивнийУкраїна of the Ukrainian Veterans Fund together with artist Nikita Tytov.

The National Bank issued a commemorative medal dedicated to the hero cities of Kyiv oblast. On the obverse of the medal, a stylized composition is depicted, formed from maps of the cities of Kyiv oblast, which together resemble the shape of a heart. On the reverse is a girl on a swing: during the “flight” her hair ribbon breaks, symbolizing an interrupted life.

Zhytomyr oblast

The Zhytomyr RMA reported that the enemy tried to attack Zhytomyr oblast, using a “Shahed” drone during an air alert at night. It was shot down with small arms by fighters of the Zhytomyr brigade of the Territorial Defense.

The Zhytomyr Regional Council appealed to the President, the Verkhovna Rada, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the National Security Council to ban the activities of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate). The appeal also talks about the need to ensure a quick and effective response of law enforcement agencies to all discovered facts of cooperation with the aggressor and the conduct of anti-Ukrainian propaganda by the clergy of the UOC (MP).

The regional military administration reported that more than 70 internally displaced doctors are employed in medical institutions of Zhytomyr oblast. The largest number of employed medical workers who were forced to move to other regions were registered in the Zhytomyr community.

Students of Zhytomyr Lyceum No. 21 handed over a car to Ukrainian servicemen. The vehicle was filled with sweets and warm things for the soldiers. To collect money, the lyceum organized a charity fair, at which more than UAH 158 K was collected.

Sumy oblast

Head of Sumy RMA Dmytro Zhivytskyi said that 226 shells and mines were fired by the enemy along the border last day. 7 communities were under shelling – Esman, Myropillia, Shalyhine, Khotyn, Yunakivka, Bilopilla and Krasnopillia.

A 69-year-old local resident of the Esman community was injured due to the shelling. A hospital, a kindergarten and three residential buildings were damaged, and a village dispensary destroyed. 17 cows died due to the shelling of a local farm in the Khotyn community.

The enemy shelled the Seredyno-Buda community – 9 hits from self-propelled guns were recorded. The russians also shelled the Znob-Novhorodske community – there were 12 hits. Three homes of civilians were damaged, and a fire broke out in one of them.

The regional military administration reported that social workers of the Sumy oblast continue to work on the border under constant shelling. The russians attacked the Center for providing social services in the Myropillia community – all the windows in the room were broken, the metal entrance door and the wall riddled with shrapnel.

Due to an acute shortage of power, new power outage schedules have been introduced in Sumy oblast. As reported in Sumyoblenerho, the power will be turned off simultaneously for two groups of consumers in the mode of -4/+2 hours. Schedules for emergency power outages have also been additionally introduced.

Work continues on the implementation of the state program to provide fuel wood to residents of the Shostka community. Contracts worth UAH 7.5 million have been concluded – 984 households have been covered.

The regional children’s hospital received unique medical equipment and consumables from the American foundation Ronald McDonald House. Medical devices will allow treating wounds with the newest method of VAC therapy, which, thanks to the creation of “negative pressure” in the wound area, allows you to significantly speed up the healing process.

Chernihiv oblast

The ‘North’ Operational Command reported that the enemy shelled the border areas of Chernihiv oblast. The Novhorod-Siverskyi community near Hremyach came under shelling.

Since the beginning of the large-scale invasion of the russian federation, pyrotechnicians have made 4,262 trips to the oblast to inspect the territories of settlements liberated from the occupiers. As reported in the Chernihiv Regional Emergency Service, as a result, 48,912 explosive objects were detected and neutralized, more than 39K hectares of territory, 236 infrastructure facilities, 22 km of power lines, 222 km of highways and more than 7.5 km of gas pipelines were examined.

Dobrobat reported on the complete restoration of the village of Yahidne destroyed by the occupiers – 22 apartment buildings, 80 families. Volunteers dismantled debris, patched roofs, restored covers, windows, repaired walls and doors. Russian soldiers set up a concentration camp in Yahidny in the spring. They forcibly detained more than three hundred villagers in the basement of the school for 28 days, 10 of whom died there.

The Chernihiv RMA reported that Danish company ROCKWOOL sent 60 generators to the Chernihiv oblast, which have already been delivered to 47 territorial communities.

A “Military Michelin” charity dinner was held in Chernihiv in support of defenders from the ‘North’ Operational Command. During the event, unique lots were offered, the most expensive of which was the flag of Ukraine, signed by the Hero of Ukraine and Honorary Citizen of the city Viktor Nikoliuk – it was purchased for UAH 51K. The idea of creating the event and lots for the auction came from Save Ukraine Time, implemented by the Bocuse d’Or Ukraine team at the Riverside restaurant.

In the residence of St. Nicholas in Chernihiv, children made their own postcards for Ukrainian defenders. The master class was held before the Day of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

Head of the regional council Mykola Lukashuk reported  that air defense forces shot down 8 enemy drones at night over Dnipropetrovsk oblast . The russians shelled the Nikopol region with heavy artillery and MLRS about seven times. They hit the Marhanets community, causing no significant destruction this time.  A commercial facility was destroyed in the city of Nikopol. Shops, office and administrative buildings, an educational institution, 4 private houses, and gas furnaces were mutilated.

Vinnytsia oblast

In Vinnytsia, a Box of Love is being prepared for children from the de-occupied Balakliia. Humanitarian aid is being collected at the Rehabilitation Center Harmony, the volunteer center Shakhina and the art space PICH. Vinnytsia became a friend city for the liberated Balakliia within the Together! project. Currently, the humanitarian cargo is being prepared for the second volunteer journey to the de-occupied city.

In Vinnytsia, entrepreneurs united and initiated the Winter Town project, which will function for a month. Among other things, the project will also have a charitable purpose – they will collect funds for the Armed Forces

Kirovohrad oblast

The teachers of a Kropyvnytskyi school and the employees of the clubs sew camouflage uniforms for soldiers. Camouflage clothing is sewn from nylon, and the fabric is bought for charitable contributions.

Poltava oblast

The Poltava City Council reports that internally displaced persons will be provided with work paid for by international partners. Within the framework of the Cash for Work program, 125 IDPs will be employed and provided with a job and a salary of $200 per month. The Botanical Garden will receive UAH 250K in grant funds to purchase equipment for employees. The project is implemented by the Ukrainian Borders, Polish Center for International Aid Foundation and Open Society in cooperation with the Poltava City Council.

Cherkasy oblast

In Cherkasy, a free psychological support project for women – Life After: Find a New Resource – was introduced. Because of the war, many feel anxiety and panic, so participants get help to find inner peace. Currently, 20 women are attending classes.

Artist Olha Kurska presented a personal exhibition entitled Chronicles of Victory in Cherkasy to celebrate the Day of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. She wanted to thank all the defenders in this way. In total, the artist presented 47 pieces created after the beginning of the russian-Ukrainian war.

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

Over the past day, the enemy fired 54 times, 43 of them on peaceful towns and villages. Huliaipole and Orikhiv communities were the most affected. 39 cases of destruction were recorded during the day. Five people were injured yesterday afternoon, one woman is in a very serious condition.

On the night of December 7, russian troops launched a rocket attack on the Matviika community. Three people were injured, including a 15-year-old girl. Two houses are completely destroyed and cannot be restored.

On December 4, up to 20 units of enemy military equipment were destroyed in Zaporizhzhia oblast, and about 70 occupiers were injured.

On December 7, emergency shutdowns were implemented in the Zaporizhzhia oblast as a result of significantly exceeding the electricity consumption limit. Hourly schedules agreed for the morning are temporarily not valid.

Mykolaiv oblast

On December 6, the enemy struck the water area in the Ochakiv community. Also shelling took place outside one of the settlements of the Kutsurub community. There are no injuries or damage.

During the exchange of prisoners of war on December 6, 16 fighters of the Mykolaiv 36th separate brigade of marines returned to Ukraine. They defended Mariupol, and some of them – Azovstal. As of December 7, the military is undergoing treatment.

As of today, 48 settlements have been liberated in Mykolaiv oblast. Urgent measures are currently being taken to restore livelihoods in these territories. Electricity supply has been restored for almost 3K consumers in the freed city of Snihurivka, the village of Bereznehuvate and the village of Zelenyi Hai. Centralized water supply has been restored for residents of 17 settlements in Snihurivska and 16 Horohivske communities. More than 200 tonnes of humanitarian aid have already been delivered to the liberated territories of the region. These are food and hygiene products, warm clothes, building materials, etc.

Odesa oblast

According to the head of Odesa RMA, all consumers in Odesa and the Odesa region will be provided with electricity on the night of December 8. No outages are planned for the next day.

German partners sent nine generators to Odesa. The city will get two 1250 KVA generators and 450 KVA generators. They will ensure the operation of critical infrastructure. The total cost of assistance is almost 1,100,000 Euros.

Kherson oblast

On December 6, the russian occupiers shelled Kherson oblast 51 times. russian shelling damaged civil infrastructure facilities and residential buildings. 2 people were killed, 1 resident of Kherson oblast injured. The police opened 30 criminal proceedings on the facts of war crimes by the russian army in Kherson oblast.

32 brigades are working to restore light in Kherson oblast – 172 workers and 61 units of equipment. The crews worked on the lines supplying Visokopillia, Tryfonivka, Novovorontsovka, Osokorivka, Chornobaivka and Kherson. Power supply has been restored for some consumers in the regional center, and also partially – in Chornobaivka and Bilozerka.

Humanitarian aid is constantly being delivered to communities in Kherson oblast. 200 repair kits were brought to the Mylove community. People are also given firewood for heating their homes. The Kochubeivka community received food. Aid in the form of food kits, warm clothes and drugs was delivered to the Chornobaivka community. Also, Chornobaivka village military administration distributed stoves in the village of Kiselivka. People received hygiene kits, food, drinking water, bedding and blankets in the villages of Barvinok and Zelenyi Hai. In addition, small pots, fuel briquettes and gas cylinders were brought to the villages of Posad-Pokrovske and Soldatske.

Latest news for today in the western regions of Ukraine

Volyn oblast

Yuliia Sachuk, native of Lutsk, became one of the eight Ukrainian women who entered the BBC project 100 Women 2022.

The telegram channel of the 14th separate mechanized brigade named after Prince Roman the Great reported that during a meeting with servicemen who distinguished themselves during the battles in Kharkiv oblast, President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, awarded five soldiers of the14th separate mechanized brigade with orders For Courage of the III degree.

Zakarpattia oblast

The Defense Council of Zakarpattia Oblast has banned the use of outdoor advertising lighting, advertising signs and backlights. The restrictions do not apply to the lighting of the street network and critical infrastructure facilities.

A four-way protocol of the meeting was signed between the parliament and the government of Burgenland and the Zakarpattia Regional Council and the Zakarpattia RMA. It involves the exchange of experience, knowledge and information. The document also provides for the development of the Program of Joint Actions between Zakarpattia oblast and the Burgenland Land of the Republic of Austria.

The Uzhhorod City Council held a training session on combating violence within the All-Ukrainian action 16 Days against Violence.

The teacher-organizer of the Taras Shevchenko Linguistic Gymnasium in Uzhgorod, Svitlana Toder, reported that eleventh graders of the gymnasium made 500 trench candles for the military and residents of Kherson.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

On the Day of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, 60 defenders were freed from russian captivity. Among the released fighters are three Carpathians, namely, serviceman of the 10th Mountain Assault Brigade Vitalii Lukaniuk, senior lieutenant Roman Yatsiuk and serviceman Volodymyr Pylyponiuk.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy presented the Golden Star to the family of Hero of Ukraine Major Stepan Tarabalka, native of Ivano-Frankivsk oblast. The hero fell on March 13 in an aerial battle while repelling a massive airstrike. With his decisive actions, the defender prevented the enemy from entering Zhytomyr oblast, which made it possible to prevent an air strike from the enemy.

The RMA reported that an officer of the 109th separate mountain assault battalion, Vitalii Savoiskyi, was awarded with the medal For services to Prykarpattia.

71 winter uniforms were sent from Ivano-Frankivsk oblast to the 102nd separate brigade of the Territorial Defense Forces of the Armed Forces of Ivano-Frankivsk oblast. It was sewn by the employees of the Ivano-Frankivsk educational and production enterprise UTOH.

Lviv oblast

In Lviv a rally in support of Ukrainian defenders who are in russian captivity or have gone missing was held. During the day, street cars ran with the flags of the 24th Separate Mechanized Brigade named after King Danylo. And on the digital boards of the Electron street cars, next to the information about the route, the slogan “burned”: “Come back! They are waiting for you at home!”.

Educational institutions of the Krasnensk Territorial Community joined the Victory Christmas Tree campaign, which was initiated by the Department of Education and Science of Lviv oblast. For the Day of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, students of educational institutions of the local community prepared sets of Christmas tree decorations, made by their own hands, which will be sent to the military on the front lines.

Medics from Lviv, together with the famous British reconstructive surgeon Sarah Tuker, performed an extremely complex reconstructive operation. At the NEZLAMNI National Rehabilitation Center, they transplanted tissues from the back to the limb to save the leg from amputation of a 40-year-old woman who was injured by a russian missile attack in the city of Bakhmut.

Rivne oblast

The first City of Invincibility was opened in Rivne oblast. These are 16 houses provided by the Swedish Civil Situation Agency. They are equipped with folding beds, mattresses and thermal blankets. The area of ​​each of them is 17 square meters. There is light, heat and internet. A medic, a social worker and a police officer are on duty.

Representatives of the IAEA arrived at the Rivne NPP. The main purpose of the visit is to provide technical support and enhance security and nuclear safety at the RNNP4.

Ternopil oblast

There was a message received about possible mining of the premises of the Zborov City Council. The relevant services examined the place. No dangerous items were found.

Head of the Main Directorate of the DPS in Ternopil oblast, Ruslan Tsvihun, reported that during January-November of this year, the taxpayers of Ternopil oblast transferred almost UAH 415.1 million of military levies to the general fund of the state budget.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

A humanitarian cargo from the sister state of Mississippi has arrived in Khmelnytskyi. The cargo was delivered by the Polish Peace Corps Foundation (the Republic of Poland). Over 19 tonnes of long-term food will soon be distributed.

Representatives of the IAEA arrived at the Khmelnytsky NPP to provide technical support and enhance security and nuclear safety of the station.

Chernivtsi oblast

In the RMA a meeting with representatives of the American international organization CDAG International LLC was held. They discussed construction of modular houses for people who need temporary housing, because they lost their own due to russia’s military aggression against Ukraine.

The Chudei community received humanitarian aid, namely, a fire truck, from the Swabian government. In addition to the vehicle, the city of Augsburg also donated 1 100 kg of aid, including personal hygiene, long-term storage products, clothes, etc., for the Chereshskyi Psychoneurological Boarding House.  

The Chernivtsi City Council reported that in the city three soldiers received keys and warrants for new apartments.

International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)

The Council of the EU reported that Norway will transfer about €14.5 million to the EU Military Assistance Mission, which trains and equips the Ukrainian military.

The Canadian government will allocate over $11 million for demining Ukraine. They will finance the purchase of special suits and equipment for detecting dangerous objects.

Germany will provide Ukraine with a €200 million grant to support IDPs. The relevant agreements were signed by Minister of Finance of Ukraine Serhii Marchenko during a meeting with German Ambassador Anka Feldhusen.

In 2023, the US defense budget will amount to $847.3 billion, of which $800 million is provided for additional military aid to Ukraine.
