It has been the 90th day of the large-scale war. 

“Someone gave us only three days. We stood the ground and endured for three brave, long and heroic months. We keep on fighting for our freedom and independence. I am really grateful to everyone who makes every effort to gain victory and reach peace in Ukraine”, Volodymyr Zelenskyy.  

For these 3 months, Ukraine forced the so-called second army in the world to retreat in several regions, specifically on the outskirts of Kyiv. However, there is heavy fighting right now in the East. The invaders continue advancing by sweeping away residential areas on their way. They are pushing forward towards Severodonetsk and Bakhmut. They are attempting to ram the Ukrainian defense.

Ukraine briefly:

In Lyman, Donetsk oblast, there have been dense enemy’s shellings. There were dead and injured among civilians. People can’t evacuate right now.   

 

Latest regional news

Severodonetsk-Lysychansk and Popasna are still the hottest spots on the map with heaviest and most intense fighting.

According to the General Staff of the AFU, here is a brief overview of the current situation:  

In Volyn and Polissia, the situation has not drastically changed. The air strikes from the territory of Belarus can be launched.

Towards Siversk, the enemy continues to take measures to cover the Ukrainian-Russian border area and equip fortified bases in Bryansk region. The invader launched air strikes on civilian and military infrastructure in Sumy oblast. 

In Slobozhanschina, the enemy units concentrate their efforts on holding their positions. 

In Kharkiv and Sloviansk directions, there were no active hostilities in the region. The enemy conducted reconnaissance and took some measures to create favorable conditions to re-launch the offensive. The Armed Forces of Ukraine were bombarded with artillery in the area of Tsyrkuny. The enemy conducted reconnaissance-in-force operations in the area of Pasika, sustained losses and retreated. 

In Donetsk direction, the enemy continues advancing, attempting to ram our defense and reach the administrative borders of Luhansk oblast. The enemy launched air strikes on civilian infrastructure in Kramatorsk, Lyman and Sloviansk.  

In Lyman direction, the enemy intensified the hostilities. Supported by artillery and aviation, the enemy is advancing towards Lyman. 

Towards Severodonetsk, supported by artillery, the enemy is pushing forward. There is fighting.  

Towards Bakhmut, the enemy is advancing towards Lypove and Bilohorivka. 

In Avdiivka, Kurakhiv, Novopavlivsk and Zaporizhzhia directions, the invaders are attacking using assault and military aviation. The enemy are continuously shelling the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and civilian infrastructure in the areas of Avdiivka, Pisky and Maryinka. 

In Kherson oblast, the situation is acute, especially with the food and medicine supply in the occupied territories bordering Mykolaiv and Dnipropetrovsk oblasts. The humanitarian aid can’t be shipped in most settlements. The humanitarian corridor can’t be opened. “The invaders continue destroying Ukrainian symbols and putting their flags and Soviet symbols in Kherson oblast”, the Regional Military Administration operating in another region reports.

In Dnipropetrovsk oblast: In the morning, Zelenodolsk and Shyrokovsk communities bordering the Kherson oblast were shelled. Housing was destroyed. People were not affected. Detailed information is being clarified.

The enemy did not conduct active hostilities in the South Bug area. He fired at our troops with mortars, multiple rocket launchers, artillery and counterattack. The air strike was launched near the settlement of Mykolaivka. The enemy carried out engineering and logistical support for his troops.

In the temporarily occupied territory of Crimea, the enemy is forming reserve units to conduct hostilities on the territory of Ukraine.

Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, 300 man-made structures have been destroyed, namely bridges, overpasses, etc. However, when liberation of the occupied territories began, Ukravtodor renovated 36 man-made structures (bridges in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Irpen and Bucha), but they are still temporary. Construction of permanent facilities is underway. In addition, 24K kilometers of roads were destroyed. Currently, 760 km of roads have been restored, notably roads and streets of state and municipal importance.

The European Union, together with Ukraine, will create a financial platform for its recovery from all devastation caused by the russian aggression, which will help Ukraine rebuild critical infrastructure and pave the way for a European future by implementing key economic, legal and social reforms. This was stated today in Davos during a speech at the World Economic Forum by the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, Ukrinform correspondent reports.

Ukraine and its partners have set up two alternative land routes to deliver food exports and save Africa and other regions from starvation, Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said.

Eastern regions

Kharkiv oblast 

The occupiers, although repulsed directly from Kharkiv, continue to fire on the regional center and the civilian population of the region. The enemy fired at the Armed Forces in the area of ​​Tsyrkuny. The enemy also conducted reconnaissance by fighting near Izyum in the Apiary area, suffered casualties and withdrew.

That night, the occupiers fired three missiles at Merefa. One of them was shot down by air defense forces. As a result of the missile strike the administrative building of the Southern Railway substation was partially destroyed. There are no victims.

In the morning, the occupiers fired on the Derhachi community. As a result of shelling, a commercial establishment exploded. Unfortunately, a 69-year-old woman died and 1 person was injured. In the village of Savyntsi, Izium district, 2 people were injured as a result of russian shelling.

The russian occupiers in Kharkiv oblast are focused on maintaining their positions and are preparing to resume the offensive. The region is working to restore critical infrastructure, dismantle blockages from enemy shelling, and provide the population with food. Now each community receives 20 tons of flour and 10 tons of sugar.

More than 200 people were evacuated from the temporarily occupied territories of Kharkiv oblast yesterday. People are being taken to Kharkiv and Chuhuiev, Oleksandr Gusarov, chairman of the Pecheneg village council, said. About a hundred people were taken away by evacuation buses. The rest escaped to the territories controlled by Ukraine by their own cars.

Kharkiv is springing to life. The subway has resumed its operations. First trains arrived at the station this morning after a three-month break due to the war. It will run from 7.00 to 19.00, the interval between trains is 30 minutes. The first week of travel in the Kharkiv metro is free.

On May 24, police officers from the Izium District Police Department brought food packages to residents of Barvinkove and the district.

Law enforcement officers continue to document the crimes of the russian armed forces in the Kharkiv oblast. They gathered all necessary evidence to bring perpetrators to justice according to the testimony of residents of the village of Mala Rohan whose property was destroyed or damaged by the occupiers.

Donetsk oblast 

The enemy intensified hostilities. Supported by artillery and aircraft, he launched the offensive towards Lyman. Occurs in the settlements of Lypove and Belohorivka. The enemy also launched air strikes on Kramatorsk, Lyman and Sloviansk.

The Ukrainian military left Svitlodarsk to take more advantageous positions and regroup. This was not a retreat and the maneuver was discussed in advance. This was announced by the head of the Donetsk Regional Military Administration Pavlo Kyrylenko. Svitlodarsk was surrounded from three sides. So it was necessary to regroup. About 9K people were temporarily occupied by the russians.

However, the Ministry of Internal Affairs explained the departure of our fighters from Svitlodarsk and Myronovsky. “We do not hold on to specific settlements, but strive to inflict maximum losses on the enemy while maintaining our forces. Sometimes it is necessary to retreat from non-strategic borders to avoid encirclement or losses,” said Viktor Andrusiv, an adviser to the Interior Minister. The Armed Forces implement maneuverable defense.

The prosecutor’s office reported the so-called “deputy” head of the Mariupol administration is under suspicion. According to investigators, he voluntarily agreed to collaborate with the enemy.

The Mariupol City Council showed photos of the bombarded Azovstal.

Luhansk oblast

According to the report of the head of Luhansk Regional Military Administration Serhiy Haidai on the situation in the region, the russians are attacking Luhansk oblast from all directions: attacking the Severodonetsk direction, the Mountain Community from Zoloty and Katerynivka, Popasna from Komyshuvakha, and Belohorivka. The Lysychansk-Bakhmut route is completely under fire. Now, the enemy’s sabotage groups are operating. Russians also brought a large number of fighters and equipment to the region, holding helicopters and heavy weapons in combat readiness.

According to Serhiy Haidai, Luhansk Regional State Administration, two people were rescued in Belohorivka. “Unfortunately, the time has come when we evacuate less than we lose. There were 5 casualties on May 24.”

Northern regions

Kyiv oblast

Demining operations continue in the liberated settlements and territories of Kyiv oblast. More information is available here.

16.4 km of highways were checked, 372 explosive objects were neutralized.

Since the beginning of the work, 13,334.64 hectares of territory, 295.8 km of highways, 957.99 km of power lines, 11,443 km of the gas pipeline have been examined, 35,320 explosive objects have been identified and neutralized. 

120 settlements of Kyiv oblast have resumed services of natural gas supplies. Power engineers are working on connecting each individual house or apartment to the power supply.

Despite the russian aggression, 95.9% of all projected acreage was sown in Kyiv oblast. Agricultural work is significantly complicated by the lack of fuel and mineral fertilizers. Also, due to the fields mined by the occupiers, it is important to create safe conditions for farmers.

Zhytomyr oblast

Today, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Estonia to Ukraine Kaimo Kuuska visited Zhytomyr oblast. The Ambassador and head of Zhytomyr RMA Vitalii Bunechko visited the ruins of the destroyed lyceum No.25, one of the bright examples of russian war crimes in the oblast.

In Zhytomyr oblast, there are over 2,200 destroyed and damaged facilities. Among them are residential buildings, educational medical, cultural institutions, administrative buildings and industrial enterprises.

Estonia expressed its willingness to help rebuild Zhytomyr oblast and assist with investment and business development. The list of facilities for restoration provided by Zhytomyr RMA, as well as the road map of this process were discussed.

On May 24, in Zhytomyr, public utilities began removing the remains of buildings destroyed by airstrikes. In total, 178 such facilities are to be dismantled.

Demining is underway in the Narodychi territorial community.

Zhytomyr Military Administration and volunteers of the Humanitarian Hub of Zhytomyr handed over 1,000 fuel canisters to military units.

Dmytro Sichen’s documentary “Dark Spring”, filmed in Zhytomyr oblast during the temporary occupation of northern territories, was presented in Korosten. The main characters of the film were residents of the occupied villages of the People’s Community and Korosten.

Chernihiv oblast 

Repair work continues in Chernihiv regional hospital, which has provided assistance to the military and civilians since the first days of the war and received over a thousand wounded during military actions. The Regional Center for Emergency Medical Care and Disaster Medicine is being restored.

Work is underway to connect the power supply in the Bobrovytsia microdistrict of Chernihiv, which suffered particularly extensive destruction during fighting.

The Road Service in Chernihiv oblast restores roads in priority traffic areas.

Employees of the State Emergency Service in Chernihiv oblast detect explosive objects on the territory of the regional landscape park “Yalivshchyna”. The park is gradually resuming its activities.

During the day, pyrotechnic and underwater demining groups of the SES were involved 47 times in disposal of explosive objects and extracted 188 such objects. A total of 24,256 explosive objects have been extracted since the beginning of hostilities.

Sumy oblast

The enemy carried out an air strike on the positions of our troops near the settlement of Bilopillia, Sumy oblast.

The enemy shelled the border of Sumy oblast: 7 mortar attacks from the territory of the russian federation towards the village of Boiaro-Lezhachi; 8 explosions near the village of Tovstodubove. There are no losses of personnel and equipment. Information about the victims is being clarified.

In Sumy, for the second week, tactical medicine training continues. This is a fundamental training of our fighters who take part or will take part in military operations. The instructors are experts of the regional center of emergency medical care and military doctors from the United States.

In Okhtyrka district, the repair work of gas supply networks continues. The city is being cleaned up, the rubble is being dismantled and structures on the territory of the Okhtyrka CHP are being dismantled. Work continues to examine residential and other buildings after their destruction or damage as a result of bombing.

In Bilopillia, partially destroyed residential and household buildings destroyed by an airstrike and shelling of the city were dismantled. Access to houses blocked by the rubble is being restored. 

Central regions

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

At night, a russian missile hit a field in Pavlograd region. The explosion created a 4 meter-deep funnel. No one was injured.

In the morning, the enemy fired on Zelenodolsk community from Uragan multi-launch rocket systems. There is destruction, people are not injured as a result of the hit on  Velyka Kostroma

 

This afternoon one enemy missile struck Synelnykove district. No one was killed or injured.

In Kryvyi Rih district, occupiers fired on the region’s borders by Grad multi-launch rocket system and mortars.

Immigrants continue to arrive in the oblast. More than 238K internally displaced persons have been registered, almost 60K of them children.

Kirovohrad oblast

Kirovohrad oblast today reported about implementing the plan for sowing the fields with grain. The plan is to help Kharkiv oblast to form an additional stock of wheat and flour, the chairman of the Kirovohrad regional state administration Andrey Raikovich reported.

Poltava oblast

More than two and a half thousand animals were evacuated from the Kharkiv Ecopark to the village of Kovalivka, near Poltava. Among evacuated animals are flamingos, various primates, camels, deer, ostriches and lemurs. Some animals were taken with injuries because they were taken out under fire.

Vinnytsia oblast

The center of immigrant support “I am Mariupol” opened today in Vinnytsia. First visitors could already use the services from receiving food kits to legal, medical, psychological support. The main goal of the project is to adapt Mariupol residents to a new life. About 3K migrants from this city reside in Vinnytsia.

Cherkasy oblast

The team of the Cherkasy Regional Philharmonic is the only one from Ukraine to present folk dance at a festival in Italy. The festival will take place on May 27-29 in the resort town of Belaria-Igea Marina. The organizers dedicated the event to Ukrainian culture.

In Cherkasy oblast, a militant of the so-called LPR was sentenced to 15 years in prison. The convict fired at the positions of the Ukrainian military and took part in hostilities near the settlements of Alchevsk, Zolote, Bile and others in Luhansk oblast.

Southern regions

Zaporizhzhia oblast

In Zaporizhzhia direction, the invaders are enhancing their combat grouping to resume offensive actions in the direction of Vasylivka – Kamianske. 

In Melitopol, the occupiers steal humanitarian aid for Ukraine and distribute their own. For example, in the Melitopol Children’s Polyclinic, collaborators and occupiers report that young mothers received diapers and baby food. But all products on the photo are named in Latin, so this is humanitarian aid to Ukraine from foreign partners. 

In Vasylivka, russian troops force local businessmen to sell goods in rubles.

The occupiers abducted the leaders of Kyrylove Village Council. So, in the morning, the community head Ivan Maleev was abducted from his own house. After that, the invaders seized his deputy Ihor Korobka. Both were taken blindfolded and with their hands tied in an unknown direction.

Svetlana Shyian, director of the local house of culture (Center for Culture, Leisure and Art Education), was also abducted. It is known that the occupiers robbed the community administration and the ASC. 

Russian troops continue to shell the civilian infrastructure of Huliaipole and the village of Poltavka, Polohy district. In Huliaipole, they damaged premises of the local printing house (broken windows, destroyed walls) and garage premises of the service station. In the village of Poltavka, private houses of local residents were destroyed (windows and doors were broken, roofs of houses were damaged). Also, some villagers’ courtyards, garages and household buildings were damaged.

As of May 24, due to damage to power lines, supports and equipment, 24114 consumers remained without electricity in 75 settlements of Zaporizhzhia oblast. Yesterday, 3 high-voltage power lines of 35 kV and 3 substations of PJSC “Zaporizhzhiaoblenergo” were damaged.

Due to active hostilities at night, the power grids of the Orikhiv district department, supplying the village of Preobrazhenka and part of the city of Orikhiv, were damaged.

The russians continue to rob the occupied territories of Zaporizhzhia oblast. Along the Melitopol highway, people saw several dozen carriers with grain from the warehouses of the agricultural company near Azovkabel.

The directors of the Filmax cinema in Berdiansk refused to collaborate with the russian military and show propaganda films. For disobedience, the invaders expelled the employees, replaced locks and soon are planning to use cinema to promote and spread their fakes.

Kherson oblast

Kherson authorities said that all graduates of the oblast in 2021/2022 will be able to receive a certificate of education. Everyone who left the oblast will be able to receive certificates and annexes to them in the controlled territory of Ukraine. The documents of those graduates who will not be able to leave the temporarily occupied territory will be stored until liberation of the oblast from the invaders.

After the cluster munition shelling of the Bilozerka community, there is one dead (official confirmation from the hospital). Private residential buildings are partially damaged.

On the territory of Velykokopanovskaya village territorial community there is a russian commandant’s headquarters, which established a curfew from 9pm to 05am.

On the territory of the Stanislavska territorial community there are active hostilities, about 400 private houses are destroyed. The district has created a local company “Stanislavenergo”, which daily repairs gusts on power lines, both in the village and outside the village in the fields, so that the power is supplied.

In the Vysokopillia territorial community, active hostilities are underway. Locals urgent evacuation, as well as food and medicines supply. Yesterday, locals were banned from entering the territory controlled by the Armed Forces of Ukraine. So it is impossible to receive humanitarian aid.

In all territorial communities of Skadovsk district, the situation with medicines and fuel is critical.

In Kherson, the russian military robbed the office of the “Insha” charitable organization. All the equipment was taken out of the community center.

Mykolaiv oblast

The situation on the contact line in Mykolaiv and Kherson oblasts is steadily tense. The enemy builds defensive facilities and does not try to advance. 

For the previous day due to shelling by the russian troops 15 people were injured. 

To eliminate the consequences of russian-fascist aggression, the units of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine extracted 49 explosive and dangerous objects.

The Italian Embassy sent humanitarian cargo with hemostatic bandages and individual first aid kits with tourniquets. The cargo contained a variety of long-lasting foodstuffs. These products will be distributed among communities of the oblast as per their needs.

Odesa oblast

From May 25, 2022, the curfew in Odesa oblast will be valid from 11pm to 05am.

In Odesa oblast,  control is enhanced over the coast to detect suspicious or dangerous objects.

In the Black Sea, the Black Sea Fleet continues to block the Port of Odesa and control the north-western part of the Black Sea. Large assault boats and those carrying cruise missiles are maneuvering at the sea.

Western regions

Volyn oblast

The Security Service of Ukraine reported the suspicion of the commander of the russian armed forces for the order to launch a cruise missile from the territory of Belarus, which hit the oil depot in Lutsk in March.

The commander of the 23rd Fighter Regiment of the Eastern Military District of the Armed Forces of the russian federation was involved in the missile strike.

Security Services of Ukraine investigators found that a military veteran with the call sign “79201” took off from a Baranovichi temporary base airfield on March 27 to carry out the order. The russian pilot launched a cruise missile without crossing the Ukrainian airspace.

As a result of a missile strike at the oil depot, tanks with oil products caught fire. The amount of losses is over 136 million UAH.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

In Kalush, service stations have repaired more than 30 vehicles for free for the needs of the Ukrainian military since the beginning of March.

The activities of the Moscow Patriarchate were banned in the Bohorodchany territorial community in Ivano-Frankivsk oblast. The decision was unanimously accepted by deputies of the local council. 

Lviv oblast

In the Lviv territorial community, 53 streets will be renamed as part of the decolonization of toponymy. 

As of February 24, three mobile hospitals have opened in Lviv oblast, notably the Dutch hospital in Truskavets, the Israeli hospital in Mostyska and the American hospital in the village Sokilnyky. During this time, 11 266 people have already received medical care in institutions.

Transcarpathian oblast

In Zakarpattia oblast there are no queues at border checkpoints. 6 cars are in line to leave Ukraine in front of the Luzhanka checkpoint, located near the border with Hungary. There are no cars or pedestrians at other checkpoints.
