In several directions, the russian troops conducted unsuccessful offensives, particularly towards Bakhmut. The russians tried to launch an assault, but failed and retreated.

✅ During the ceremony of raising the National Flag of Ukraine in Kyiv, Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the Ukrainian national flag shall forever return to all temporarily occupied territories.

✅ President Zelenskyy said that russia would receive a robust response if shelling intensifies on August 23-24.

✅ “The only thing that threatens civilians of Ukraine is russian missiles, weapons and looting by russian troops,” the UK ambassador in Ukraine reacted to the report of the human rights organization Amnesty International, which stated that the armed forces of Ukraine endanger the civilian population.

✅ German Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced the plans to provide Ukraine with additional weapons worth over 500 million euros. In particular, the aid includes three Iris-T air defense systems, high-precision munitions and anti-drone systems.

✅ Slovakia will hand over 30 BMP-1 infantry fighting vehicles to Ukraine and, in return, will receive 15 Leopard 2A4 tanks from Germany.

✅ President of Poland Andrzej Duda arrived in Kyiv. He stated the need to liberate the entire territory of Ukraine, including Crimea, from russian occupation.

✅ In his speech at the summit of the Crimean Platform, the Turkish President Erdoğan emphasized that ending Russia’s occupation of Crimea is a de facto requirement of international law and an essential element of global security and stability. President of the European Council, Charles Michel, said that he dreams of visiting the Ukrainian Crimea after its liberation from the occupiers.

The Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi noted that the struggle for Crimea is part of the liberation struggle.

✅ The American edition of Politico suggests that the US could secretly transfer ATACMS military operational-tactical missile systems with a range of up to 300 km to Ukraine, while Kyiv could send them to the occupied Crimea. However, the publication admits that these are only assumptions.

✅ The occupying authorities and propagandists announced that they directly hit the “administration” building of the so-called “DPR” leader Denis Pushylin, located in the centre of Donetsk.

✅ The UN created a commission to investigate the death of Ukrainian prisoners of war in the occupied Olenivka colony.
