⠀⠀On the morning of August 16, the inhabitants of the occupied Crimean Dzhankoi neighbourhood could hear explosions and see fire. The Ministry of Defense of russia confirmed that a fire broke out at an ammunition dump in the village of Maiske in Dzhankoi Raion. The railway in the area was also damaged. The Armed Forces of Ukraine commented on the explosions in occupied Crimea: “Undoubtedly, the enemy does not know how to use fire safely. But, of course, it makes us all happy”.
⠀⠀✅ Clouds of black smoke are billowing above the military air base in the village of Hvardiiske near Simferopol, Crimea. Bellingcat journalist Hristo Grozev reports that 12 Su-24M and 12 Su-25SM aircraft were stored there. The airfield is part of the russian Navy.
⠀⠀✅ OC “South” informs that in one day, in the Kherson region, the Armed Forces of Ukraine eliminated 23 occupiers, a howitzer, seven units of automobiles and armoured fighting vehicles, and a russian ammunition supply point.
⠀⠀✅ The Ministry of Defense informs that Lithuania sent six M109 howitzers today. Ukrainian defenders already use them on the battlefield.
⠀⠀✅ 38.3K vehicles crossed the Crimean bridge in both directions breaking a new record. After the morning explosions, the presidential representative in Crimea, Tamils Tasheva, says that ”people are hiding the basements and lining up to leave the peninsula”.
⠀⠀✅ Finland decided to cut issuing visas to russian tourists tenfold starting from September. Now the country accepts about a thousand visa applications from russians. One hundred tourist applications are planned to be approved daily.
⠀⠀✅ The Soviet-era tank monument will be dismantled in the Estonian city of Narva. The government ratified this decision irrespective of the strong opposition of the local pro-russian population.
